  1. Saturday December 08 2018 v Cribbs F.C.(home) The Buildbase FA Vase Round Three Saltash United line-up:Ryan Rickard,Caleb Summerfield, Callum Martindale,Sam Leary,Callum O'Brien,Danny Lewis, Dave Trott,Sam Farrant,Richard Maddison,Ryan Richards, Lee Phillips(Jamie Simmonds 72 mins). Unused subs:Steve Sargison,Lewis Russell,Shaun Cleary, Chris Menhenick. Bookings:Farrant(Yellow),Martindale(red, sent off). Result:Saltash United 2 Cribbs FC 4 Scorers:Phillips(11 mins)& Richards(55 mins). Attendance:135 Referee:Martin Peters(Bristol) After just three minutes the Ashes should have taken the lead but Lee Phillips missed what seemed an open goal. The visitors did take the lead on seven minutes when George Kellow scored from the penalty spot but the Ashes came back strong and Lee Phillips made up for his earlier miss to score from close range after eleven minutes. The second half was just over ten minutes old when after a great run Ryan Richards lobbed the advancing keeper to give the Ashes the lead which they held until eight minutes from the end of normal time. Dan Spicer levelled for Cribbs with a fine free-kick from just outside the Ashes area to bring the scores level and five minutes later Cribbs took the lead when the home side failed to clear a corner and the ball just dribbled over the line.A mix-up between Sam Leary and Ryan Rickard from a throw-in allowed Wanjau-Smith to walk the ball into the Ashes net for number four. A very good game in very poor conditions which was a credit to both sides.
  2. THE BUILDBASE FA VASE THIRD ROUND SALTASH UNITED v CRIBBS FC KIMBERLEY STADIUM TODAY 3.00pm
  3. U Saturday November 03 2018 v Ivybridge Town(away) The FA Vase Round 2 Saltash United line-up:Ryan Rickard,Dave Barker, Callum Martindale,Sam Leary,Chris Menhenick,Danny Lewis(Caleb Summerfield 60 mins),Dave Trott,Sam Farrant,Henry Wilson,Sam Hughes(Lee Phillips 60 mins), Ryan Richards(Shaun Cleary 75 mins). Unused subs:Jamie Simmonds & Steve Sargison. Bookings:Barker & Richards(both Yellow) Wilson(red). Result:Ivybridge Town 1 Saltash United 3 Scorers:Hughes 2(3 & 47 mins),Richards(33 mins). Attendance:N/A Referee:Nicholas Eckland The Ashes opened the scoring on five minutes when Sam Hughes forced the ball home at the far post.Ivybridge started to get into the game more but didn't really threaten the Saltash goal and their task was made even harder on thirty three minutes when from a Callum Martindale low cross Ryan Richards made it 2-0. The second half was only two minutes old when Dave Trott sent a long ball down the right for Richards who outpaced the home defence and then crossed for Sam Hughes to score his second of the match and make it 3-0 to the Ashes. Ivybridge tried to get a foothold in the game and it improved with twenty minutes to go when Wilson was sent off for a late challenge. Two minutes later and Dave Youldon gave the home side some hope when he reduced the score to 3-1. Ivybridge started to push more men forward and in time added on Saltash made a break down the centre only for Lee Phillips to be brought down by the last man Scott Pocock who was then sent off.Saltash saw out the last few minutes to move into round 3 of the FA Vase.
  4. Friday October 26 2018 v Elburton Villa(away) The South West Peninsula League(Premier Division) Saltash United line-up:Ryan Rickard,Dave Barker, Callum Martindale,Sam Leary,Chris Menhenick,Steve Sargison,Shaun Cleary(Lee Phillips 57 mins),Richard Maddison,Dave Trott(Danny Lewis 67 mins),Sam Farrant,Ryan Richards(Caleb Summerfield 86 mins). Result:Elburton Villa 2 Saltash United 3 Scorers:Richards(49 mins),Phillips(69 mins), Barker(85 mins). Attendance:N/A Referee:Mr N Lane. If Elburton Villa strikers had had their shooting boots on the Ashes could have been in big trouble in the first half but as it was the Ashes had the best two chances in the half to take the lead.First,Ryan Richards hit the crossbar with a snap shot and then Dave Trott also hit the bar but this was from the penalty spot. Three minutes into the second half and Villa took the lead with Jed Smale heading in from close range from a well worked corner. One minute later Ryan Richards made it 1-1 but Villa restored their lead from another set piece on sixty minutes when Matt Thackery headed home at the near post. With just twenty minutes left Lee Phillips popped up to make it 2-2.The Ashes were reduced to ten men when Richard Maddison was sent of but still pushed for a winner and it came on eighty five minutes when in-form Dave Barker scored. .
  5. Saturday October 20 2018 v Bere Alston United(away) The Walter C Parson League Cup Round 2 Saltash United line-up:Ryan Rickard,Dave Barker, Callum Martindale,Lewis Russell(Steve Sargison 28 mins), Chris Menhenick,Henry Wilson(Jamie Simmonds 67 mins), Shaun Cleary,Richard Maddison,Sam Hughes,Lee Phillips (Sam Leary 21 mins),Danny Lewis. As a contest the match was all over by half-time with Saltash 6-0 up.Phillips opened the scoring on 4 minutes and after just 12 minutes it was 3-0 with further goals from Hughes and Maddison. Two more goals before half-time from Lewis and a superb free-kick from Wilson. The big down side for the Ashes in the first half was that two players were taken to Derriford Hospital,Lee Phillips with a leg injury and Lewis Russell with an ankle injury. The second half was very much the same as the first with the Ashes dominating play but it was Bere Alston who drew first blood when a mistake by Sam Leary let in the home side to make it 6-1.Just 10 minutes into the half and the Ashes were back to a 6 goal cushion when Hughes headed home to complete his hat-trick.Into the last 10 minutes and Hughes was fouled in the penalty area and Barker scored from the penalty spot to make it 8-1. .
  6. Great to hear the young lad has been given the all-clear. Caleb has become a very welcome new member to "the ashes" squad this season.
  7. Wednesday October 17 2018 v Exmouth Town(home) The South West Peninsula League (Premier Division) Saltash United line-up:Ryan Rickard,Dave Barker, Callum Martindale,Chris Menhenick,Henry Wilson, Caleb Summerfield(Matt Cusack 60 mins),Shaun Cleary, Sam Farrant,Sam Hughes,Jamie Simmonds(Josh Tapp 90 mins), Danny Lewis. Unused subs:Dave Trott. Bookings:Farrant,Wilson,Simmonds. Result:Saltash United 2 Exmouth Town 0 Scorers:Barker (37 mins)& Cleary (89 mins). Attendance:112 Referee:Adrian Clements. With eight first team squad players missing the task against a very good Exmouth Town side looked enormous but the Saltash players rose to the challenge. Exmouth dominated the early stages of the match but only created one good chance in that time. With just over thirty five minutes gone Sam Hughes held the ball up just inside the Exmouth area for Dave Barker to run onto which he did and scored. After that goal the Ashes settled down and got more into the game for the rest of the half. The second half Exmouth came out all guns blazing and dominated from start to finish but still never really troubled the Ashes goal.At the other end Robbie Powell in the the Exmouth goal had to pull off a couple of smart saves from Saltash counter attacks.Going into the last of the ninety minutes a mix-up in the Exmouth defence was seized upon by Shaun Cleary who slotted home past the advancing keeper to make it 2-0. A very mixed Ashes side that included three teenagers the youngest being a 16 year old.
  8. Saturday 13 October 2018 v Westbury United(home) The Buildbase FA Vase Round 1 Saltash United line-up:Ryan Rickard,Dave Barker, Callum Martindale,Sam Leary,Lewis Russell,Dave Trott, Henry Wilson,Richard Maddison,Sam Hughes,Ryan Richards, Danny Lewis. Unused subs:Steve Sargison,Jamie Simmonds,Sam Farrant, Lee Phillips,Shaun Leary & Caleb Summerfield. Bookings:Hughes. Result:Saltash United 2 Westbury United 1 Scorers:Barker (21 mins)& Trott (62 mins). Attendance:105 Referee:Lewis Sandoe. On a very windy afternoon at Kimberley Stadium the Ashes pulled off a great result against Western Premier Division outfit Westbury United who have not dropped a point in the league so far this season. The Ashes opened the scoring on 21 minutes when man of the match Dave Barker got on the end of a fine move involving Ryan Richards and Sam Hughes and fired the ball into the corner of the net. Callum Demkiv made it 1-1 after only 2 minutes of the second half and the home support must have thought that this was the turning point of the game but not so. The Ashes once again got their noses in front just after the hour mark when Dave Trott scored straight from a corner. Wesbury threw everything at Saltash and everyone was thinking how long before an equaliser but it never came and in the end Saltash looked the more likely to score with Trott and Maddison going close.
  9. Tuesday 09 October 2018 v Sticker(Away) The South West Peninsula League(Premier Division) Saltash United line-up:Ryan Rickard,Caleb Summerfield (Dave Barker 73 mins),Callum Martindale,Lewis Russell, Danny Lewis,Steve Sargison(Richard Maddison 60 mins), Henry Wilson,Sam Farrant(Lee Phillips 67 mins),Sam Hughes,Ryan Richards,Shaun Cleary. Unused subs:Jamie Simmonds & Callum O'Brien. Bookings:Russell & Farrant. Result:Sticker 2 Saltash United 2 Scorers:Richards(86 mins) & Hughes(90+1 mins). Referee:Mark Senior. Two very late goals secured a point for the Ashes. For the first 20 minutes it looked like if Saltash could score 1 goal the floodgates would open up as they had most of the play but the Sticker defence held firm. With 21 minutes gone Ashes keeper Ryan Rickard made a rash challenge in the area and Sticker were awarded a penalty. The spot kick was saved but Ben Rosevear was quickest to respond to put the home side 1-0 up.Sticker now looked comfortable until Frank McAvoy was sent-off on 38 minutes. From then on until half-time Sticker had to defend deep and this they did well. It was all Ashes second half but they could not break down the stubborn Sticker defence. With less than 15 minutes to go Sticker had a free-kick wide on the left which was taken by Bobby Hopkinson. He shot straight at goal and keeper Rickard let the ball slip through his hands and into the net to make it 2-0. In the last 5 minutes the Ashes got a lifeline when Ryan Richards scored and then in time added on Sam Hughes forced the ball home to give the Ashes a share of the points.A Special mention to the young Sticker keeper Ethen Elwell who had a superb game under a lot of pressure.
  10. If "the ashes" are at full strength, can't see the losing.
  11. Saturday 06 October 2018 v Godolphin Atlantic(Away) The Cornwall Senior Cup(Round 1) Saltash United line-up:Ryan Rickard,Dave Barker(Caleb Summerfield(88 mins),Callum Martindale,Sam Leary,Callum O'Brien,Dave Trott(Henry Wilson 79 mins),Richard Maddison,Sam Farrant(Shaun Cleary 81 mins),Sam Hughes,Lee Phillips,Steve Sargison. Unused subs:Jamie Simmonds & Lewis Russell. Bookings:Maddison. Result:Godolphin Atlantic 0 Saltash United 3 Scorers:Barker(52 mins),Phillips 2(60 & 80 mins). Attendance:N/A Referee:R.Clarke. On a very windy afternoon at Godolphin Way Saltash played into the wind first half. The Ashes had the best chance of the first 45 minutes when Richard Maddison split the home defence but saw his shot hit the post. The rest of the half was very even but Godolphin could not take advantage of the strong wind at their backs. The second half saw the Ashes use the wind to their advantage and went ahead on 52 minutes when the home keeper Ben Mitchell failed to push a Maddison shot to safety and Dave Barker followed up the loose ball to score. On sixty minutes it was 2-0 when a good Ashes move found Lee Phillips in space to give the keeper no chance. With ten minutes remaining Phillips made it 3-0 with a header from a Sam Hughes cross and with just minutes to go Hughes lobbed the keeper only to see the ball hit the bar. A good Ashes win against a very hard working Godolphin side. The difference being Saltash used the strong wind better than the home side.
  12. Wednesday 03 October 2018 v Millbrook(home) The South West Peninsula League(Premier Division) Saltash United line-up:Ryan Rickard,Dave Barker,Caleb Summerfield(Callum Martindale 65 mins),Sam Leary,Callum O'Brien,Dave Trott(Henry Wilson 60 mins),Richard Maddison(Jamie Simmonds 76 mins),Sam Farrant,Sam Hughes, Shaun Leary,Danny Lewis. Unused subs:Steve Sargison & Lee Phillips. Bookings:Trott,Lewis,Maddison & Barker. Result:Saltash United 4 Millbrook 0 Scorers:Trott(28 mins),O'Brien(51 mins),Hughes(65 mins), Lewis(90+1) Attendance:104 Referee:Alan Bassett. On a misty evening at Kimberley Stadium the Ashes picked up all three points against Millbrook.Although the home side had the majority of of play they did not bother Chris Wearing in the visitors goal until the twenty eighth minute when Sam Farrant was pulled down just outside the Millbrook penalty area.Dave trott took the free-kick and blasted it into the corner of the net to give the keeper no chance and the Ashes the lead. The second half was six minutes old when from a Sam Farrant free-kick wide on the right Callum O'Brien headed home to make it 2-0.After about the hour mark Millbrook started to get into the game but on sixty five minutes they were caught pushing to far forward and a through ball from Dave Barker found Sam Hughed who slotted home to make it 3-0.Into time added on and Hughes had a shot blocked by the Millbrook defence but Danny Lewis picked up the loose ball and scored from close range. The game was well managed by referee Alan Bassett and both sides contributed to a very entertaining evening.
  13. Just for the records, "the ashes" were missing several players from the squad, Ryan Richards, Sam Hughes, Henry Wilson, Lewis Edwards, Callum Martindale, Lewis Russell and Chris Menhenick.
  14. No, not at all Baldy. It is not my report, it is that of a very kind gentleman who follows "the ashes". I simply post it on the forum.
