  1. Long journey and a thumping victory. Four goals (including a first half hat trick) for Jordan Annear. Up to fifth in the table now, can Parkway make a late run at the promotion positions?
  2. Has always happened, and always will. Lot's don't agree with it, but there is nothing illegal about it. Remember the old SW League clubs used to bring in Western League players from Liskeard and Saltash when available, just as those two used to use SW League names in midweek. There was no internet to discuss this in those days.
  3. Agree that it is harsh way to lose, and possibly an empty way to win, but for the neutral it's great drama . Possibly the three greatest World Cup semi-finals ever, France v West Germany 1982, Brazil v Netherlands 1998 and of course England v West Germany 1990, were all cracking matches that had this classic plot twist at the end.
  4. Following on from my thread on another section of this site recommending Ian Ridley- Floodlit Dreams as a fine read, I thought I would throw it open to other people's favourite books on football. Personally, I always prefer reading out the less obvious and well known people and stories. I have been given many pretty awful autobiographies on the big names for Christmas, they usually find there way to the charity shop soon after New Years Day. My top 5 are as follows; Robin Friday, The Best Footballer You Never Saw- Paolo Hewitt . All Played Out - Pete Davies Left Foot Forward - Garry Nelson The Glory, Glory Game - Hunter Davies Friday Night Lights - HG Bissinger ( OK, it's American Football. Still brilliant though).
  5. Made me think about how Truro City- The Heaney Years, would make a great book.
  6. Beer's too expensive, trains too crowded and too many Arsenal fans. Love it.
  7. Highly recommended book for anybody with any interest in non league football. It is about Ian Ridley ( biographer of Tony Adams, football writer for The Observer amongst others) taking over as chairman at his hometown club, Weymouth, back in 2004, and how he attempts to drag them out of the doldrums. A real eye opener, takes the lid off his battles with the vested interests, short term decisions and plain old bad management that took the famous old club to the brink of extinction.
  8. Unfortunately, yes. 20 years is what it has taken. Unless a benefactor appears from somewhere, it could take someone like Blazey this long to come back. As an aside, do fear for post Darren Gilbert Bodmin. Only when he has gone will people realise how far above their weight they have been punching. This has been against a backdrop of minimal support and interest from the town. Perhaps another example of a lack of connection with the locals
  9. Liskeard seem to be a club that are rebuilding the links to the town after years in the doldrums. After pursuing failed policies under various managers of bringing in poor players from the Plymouth area, the side that is now top of the league are mostly local based and out of the schools in the area.
  10. Instead of sniping at Bodmin, and taking joy from their season so far, we should be thinking of the success that Darren Gilbert has had and how his era in charge will be judged. For me, has to be ranked alongside Trevor Newton.
  11. Sorry, missed Smiley. No offence meant from me, and definitely none taken.
  12. Is Warren Feeney the first player with international caps to appear in the Peninsula League? Possibly one for Mike Odgers.
  13. "Plenty of dribbling, and then a mazy run." (that was Bald One after one of the lesser quality pasties on offer).
  14. Quite probably. If Graham was any sort of supporter he would have someone give him the commentary down the phone, and then type the report up from his hotel room. 😁
  15. Think he was probably covering for a few unavailable players last night, but a decent player to be able to call on. Naturally left footed players who can play in a few positions are always very handy.
  16. Excellent win for Parkway in the Les Phillips Cup. Goals from Adam Carter (2) plus Jordan Annear and Mikey Williams, must have made it a happy late night trip back from Somerset. On to the quarter finals.
  17. Seems like a bit of a revolving door at Porthleven. How about giving Ludgvan a ring Danny? Your experience and knowledge of the game would be a boost they desperately need .
  18. See that Tornado Bello' s stay at Porthleven didn't last too long. On the bench for Barnstaple yesterday.
