  1. With the times rapidly changing and social media and club websites replacing local newspaper coverage and match day programmes, which local clubs do the folk on here think do it well?
  2. Just listened to this, what a brilliant piece of radio. Set me thinking though, how about making this a series on other local footballing greats. One name immediately springs to mind, how about an hour with Bradley Swiggs?
  3. Just realised what you're talking about?. ( I'll leave the pasty mention to Mr Bald One).
  4. Have to say though that the highlights package on YouTube are particularly good. My wife looks forward to these on Sunday evenings before the Strictly results show ( To quote Mrs Way Of The Park, "Cribbs? Does that even exist? Surely it's a made up place. Honestly, middle aged men and their strange obsessions.").
  5. This is really interesting, and great news. Went to CONIFA final in June and would recommend it to football fans, thought at the time how brilliant it would be to see it hosted in Cornwall one day. Imagine how great a June tournament would be with matches hosted at Newquay, Falmouth, St Austell, Liskeard and a final at the Stadium For Cornwall (that could be stretching it though!). Could be a similar focal point to that of the Cornish rugby when they used to get to county finals at Twickenham. Not sure how the Cornish FA would view players taking part though.
  6. Any line ups available for the game? Would be interesting to see how the recent new signings slotted in.
  7. Had several good years at Truro, then was part of a successful Taunton side. Les is a wide attacking player, and a good addition to the squad, but is it an area of the squad that needs attention? First thing that springs to mind is Mikey Williams being used mainly as a left back now.
  8. I remember when it used to be about football. Jordan Annear is a good signing, will be interesting to see how he is used at Parkway, Adam Carter, Mike Smith, Stewart Yetton and now Annear means four players for two positions.
  9. " And the crowds are gathering in anticipation of Leeds United's address."
  10. There is no man more humble than Leeds United. Would be interesting to hear from Tavvy folk, looks like the injury problems had been mounting for them in recent weeks. Losing Dan Evans and Lewis Daw (probably the best centre back pairing in the league) for any length of time would hurt any team. Say what you like about Darren Gilbert and Bodmin though, they keep getting written off and they keep coming back.
  11. If we're talking James Lorenz, then he is another young striker who looks like a future star. Would think he will stay at Liskeard this season, but who knows after that. Someone who has close to 30 goals already this season will have been noticed by bigger clubs.
  12. So, when he moved to Falmouth via Porthleven and Newquay, nobody on here mentioned loyalty. Looks more like a player on an upward curve who has always looked to push himself at bigger clubs and tougher leagues. If he catches the eye at Parkway, then bigger clubs again will look at him. Nothing wrong with this, it is how it works. For example, nobody at Parkway has a bad word to say about Levi Landricombe and what he has achieved at Tiverton.
  13. Heard strong rumour that Jordan Annear has signed from Falmouth. Not sure if permanent or cover.
  14. So, he'll play for both unless one has not got a game, then he'll play for the one that has. Unless of course nobody has a game, then he'll play for neither team. Got it!
  15. Bit unusual all round as Parkway don't usually announce cover signings in this way.
  16. If that's true, then a strange signing. Class player who will strengthen squad and add leadership, but midfield is an area that Parkway are well covered in and would have thought that other positions needed attention. Unless of course Ben Joyce is out long term.
  17. Strong statement. Don't think you can accuse Shane Krac in particular of not being committed, same also goes for Adam Carter. Both players (and most others) want to be associated with sides that win trophies for the sake of their reputations, and Parkway have been pretty good at this over the last few years.
  18. As a Parkway fan, I do have mixed thoughts on this. There is a glut of injuries at Parkway currently,I understand Farkins, Yetton and Joyce being on the match even though they are all unfit to start. I know that no rules are being broken, and that it is general practice in local football, but I'm not sure though how good it is for the team and its performances that players are brought in at short notice depending on availability. For example, Ryan Richards, Jack Crago, Tyler Elliott, Mike Landricombe and Callum Hall have all played recently after a full 90 minutes in the previous 24 hours (less in some instances), and I wonder how this affects their performances and susceptibility to injuries. I know the merits of a reserve team at Parkway have been debated at length in other threads, but it would have been very useful at the moment. Looking at Tavistock, who also seem to be suffering with injuries, they seem to be utilising players from their ECPL and under 18 sides to fill gaps and give opportunities to promising youngsters.
  19. It is injuries that are the problem at the moment. Once they can get a few players back, then that will make a big difference and will mean that players can be rotated out if they are struggling with form or confidence. No doubt Lee and Karl will be on the lookout for players that can strengthen the group,as all managers do, and are willing to join.Don't forget though that this is the same group of players that had started strongly in the league, and pushed Gloucester in the FA Cup. This league is undoubtedly a step up in terms of quality and strength in depth with no easy matches, it will take time to adjust
  20. Not sure about what requirements there are for a qualified physio/first aider to be on hand. Every club at SWPL level is probably well served, below that though, I am not so sure. Remember well the old days of the South Western and Western League , it was usually some old boy in an ill fitting tracksuit who treated everything from a tight hamstring to a double leg fracture with an old sponge soaked in ice cold water. The sight of Ray Burt limping towards you at Lux Park on a miserable February afternoon usually meant a player getting up pretty quickly. A freezing aerosol spray counted as sports science.
  21. The sole qualifications required for most managers at this level is a contact book of players they can bring in, and ability to raise a few quid in sponsorship.
  22. Take your point Ninja, but the Southern and SWPL players are only available when their respective clubs are not playing. Do you think the club should have a reserve or under 18 development side to cover player shortages?Would be interested in your opinion personally, I am never sure if it works that well when you bring players in and out on a match to basis.
  23. Bringing these guest players in seems to be mostly about getting a side out. The injury list is already pretty long, Ryan Lane and Ben Joyce going off yesterday certainly doesn't help. Parkway definitely in a dip at the moment, but this is when you find out what you have at the club. Players, management, committee and supporters need to pull together and ride it out.
