  1. I can always remember the statement that a stand up comedian came out with about Paul Dalglish . "Looks like his Dad , sounds like his Dad , plays like his Mum !" Pretty sure he married one of S Club 7 as well .
  2. One or two Tivvy fans are expressing doubts on their unofficial forum about where the money is coming from , and indeed how sustainable it is . It will be interesting though to see how Shane Krac,John Heveran and Adam Carter perform at that level .
  3. Taken from Buckland website ; Danny Lewis signs for Parkway , Dan Griffiths moves in the opposite direction and joins Buckland .
  4. Nemesis wrote ; Back to transfer news... There will be players who turn up at training at one or more clubs, then sign for someone else. I'd suggest that until the end of July, there will be managers and players swapping clubs on a daily basis, the same as every other season in fact. I used to enjoy spotting some players popping up in two or three different team groups in the Sunday Independent season preview supplement . I will wait until the first game of the season to see who is turning out for who , until then it is all just gossip (entertaining though ). On a separate note , I always thought you couldn't sign for a new club until the 1st of July ?
  5. Announced on the Tiverton Town website that John Heveran has signed from Parkway ( along with Chris Wright from Buckland ) . Cannot begrudge John the move ,he deserves the chance to test himself at a higher level .A class act both on and off the pitch at Parkway .
  6. While reading the excellent " A View From The Terraces - One Hundred Years Of The Western League" , I have noticed that a team called "Plymouth City" played the 1970-71 season in the Western League , and finished 7th .After that , they appear to have disappeared . I am intrigued to know if anybody knows who they were ,where they played ,who played for them and what became of the club . Got a feeling it could be one for Mike Odgers .
  7. Nothing wrong with showing pride in the players you have managed to gather together at your club .
  8. He was superb down at Bolitho Park early in the season . We were having goalkeeper problems at the time with Piper injured and Penhaligon unable to play every game , I remarked to the Bald One that we should look at getting Tom Brooks in
  9. My team (based upon players who caught the eye against us ). Tom Brooks ( Bovey Tracey) Dan Lean ( St Austell) Chris Menhenick (Tavistock/Launceston) Dan Evans (St Blazey) Luke Rundle (Bodmin) Daniel Carne (St Austell) Shane Krac (Bodmin) George Swain ( St Blazey) Chris Reski (St Austell) Adam Carter (Bodmin) Levi Landricombe (Elburton) Of the Parkway players , Warren Daw was superb in the first half of the season , but got suspended for three matches towards the end of the year ,and didn't play as consistently well after that . Paul Heveran looked like he was really going to push on as player this season , but illness and a couple of spells out with injuries held him back , Dan Griffiths looked like he was going to be a sensation in his first few weeks , but was out for a long spell with a hamstring injury which plagued him and seemed to sap his confidence for the rest of the season , Lance Bailey rolled back the years in midfield and showed that being able to pass the ball and keep possession is still a big asset (just a shame he doesn't usually last more than 75-80 minutes these days),and Sam Cooper ran and ran and never complained when substituted and left out, shame he struggled to score the goals.A mention as well for Will Stringer who led by example in the last few games . I would have to go for the obvious choice of Ryan Richards though for the player of the year . We over relied on him for goals this season ( only one other player got double figures),but he only missed one match for us and showed a good attitude and work rate throughout, and carried our attack single handed at times . He also didn't complain when asked to play in unfamiliar roles when the team needed it . Seeing him make Kevin Miller look silly when scoring his hat trick goal at Priory Park last week was a highlight of the season .
  10. Thanks Mr Midlandlilywhite , I took over the Plymouth Parkway program at the start of this season . Despite a chronic lack of computer skills on my part , I've tried my best to put together something that is worth buying and flicking through at half time . The photo's are the work of Dave "Lidds" Liddicoat , the man who enjoys showing off his very large lens at every Parkway match . He also runs the excellent "Liddsonline" (http://liddsonline.blogspot.co.uk) website. It's a real treasure trove of Plymouth Parkway photos and news that goes back to the 2007/8 season .Big thanks to him as well for being the bloke who does the leg work of going to the printers on a Tuesday afternoon or Saturday morning to pick them up .
  11. Thanks Nick ,Elburton Villa are a club on the way up as well . Could the Parkway v Elburton Derby be a Western League fixture one day ?
  12. Not a great game by any means tonight ,with both sides pretty much cancelling each other out .It was inevitable that we would be a bit flat after Saturday's exploits , we seem to have made a habit of following up superb away victories with flat home performances this season The penalty did seem very harsh ,but to use the old football cliche "I've seen them not given ." It did all come down to the very nervous last 20 minutes or so that some of us had predicted, with both Ryan Richards and Paul Heveran missing glaring chances ,and the constant worry that Danny Brook would find his shooting boots . We managed to see it out ,it's now down to the committee to make the decision on where we play our football next season .
  13. Let's be honest, Bodmin have such a good squad that whoever is on the bench could walk into any other SWPL team. Neil Slateford was another on the bench who came on yesterday. Agreed Dave .Whatever people's personal opinions of Bodmin Town , it is up to clubs like Parkway ,Elburton Villa and the others to get closer to the standards they have set . They clearly have a management team who expect high standards from the players ,and players who respect the management and want to play for them . You only have to look at the low turnover of players each season compared to other clubs to see that . Player for player , Elburton and Parkway are probably not that far away , but the difference lies within the consistency and belief that they have .Although I am certainly not counting any chickens for a Parkway second place finish , I really do believe that we should have got a lot closer to Bodmin . Would Bodmin have dropped points against Torpoint (home and away) and Saltash when leading late in the game ,and against Launceston when we created nothing in the second half despite Leigh Cooper's team having 10 men for most of it ? We also had a lead against Bodmin late on against 10 men ,but failed to hold it . They have the confidence and poise in these situations that the other teams in the league don't have ,this is a habit born out of being successful .
  14. Bodmin left Shane Krac and Lewis Reed on the bench . Not sure if Sam Matthews and Chris Luxton were injured ,but they didn't feature . Parkway were the regular 15 ,only Glyn Hobbs was missing (suspended) . No "ringers" appeared ( if you mean players who are legally registered with both Parkway and Weymouth then no , Ben Joyce and Dan Smith did not play ).
  15. Best wishes for the future Stuart . As one of the few managers who comes on here to face down his (anonymous) critics, you'll be missed .
  16. Bodmin 2 (J.Heveran og.(I think),Carter pen ) Parkway 4 (Richards 3,Griffiths) (Half Time 1-2) Top two finish and the Western League next season is still on ! Bodmin may have taken their foot off the gas and had one eye on Monday's Cup Final ,but Parkway were the better side throughout and unrecognisable from the team who trudged off against Elburton Villa 10 days ago . We started the brighter with Lance Bailey testing Kevin Miller from distance, before Ryan Richards opened the scoring inside 3 minutes . Had a feeling it might be our day when Adam Carter headed against the bar from inside the 6 yard box , and then had a point blank header brilliantly saved by Ben Elphick . Bodmin put us under pressure when Shane Krac came off the bench ,but Richards completed a superb hat trick to tie the game up . The penalty that Carter tucked away late in the game was a mere consolation .It was almost enough to shut up the bloke that we suspect could have been Beaker in the stand Top notch away performance with Richards,Bailey,Warren Daw and Jamie Bass in particular having outstanding games . Just one more big performance is needed against Newquay on Tuesday. Should be quite a night . Incidentally , for any statisticians out there , who was the last player to score a league hat trick against Bodmin at Priory Park ? We couldn't think of anybody .
  17. Just looked back at my predictions for this season , they were . Champs - Bodmin Runners -Up Saltash Third - Tavistock 17th- Liskeard 18th -Cullompton 19th - Penzance Surprise package - Torpoint Senior Cup - Newquay Throg Cup - Bodmin Golden Boot - Adam Carter Looking back through other peoples predictions a lot of other people went for Saltash to do well , surprised they didn't contend more with the players and management they have . Same goes for Tavistock . Thought Torpoint would also do better , although they have had a decent end of season run .I won't open up the Newquay debate again ... I did manage to get the bottom three pretty much spot on though
  18. Have to say that Elburton Villa are the favourites , but Parkway have their fate in their own hands . Two wins from two is all that is needed , just the small matter of Bodmin away on Saturday to begin with and Newquay at home next Tuesday . Unless Falmouth can do us a favour on Saturday that is .......
  19. I know this is a bit of a nasty thing to say ,but will Liverton be next season's Penzance ?
  20. Really? PD Premier is barely East Cornwall level! Not a P&D watcher myself ,but one or two people I know reckon that there are some decent teams in that league . Former Pensinsula League players are opting to play at that level through being unable/unwilling to commit to the extra travelling . As for the East Cornwall Premier , have seen a couple of matches this season . If I was being honest , I would say it was almost Sunday league stuff . Can see why Parkway Seconds have been so convincing in that league .
  21. Agree with Stuart Dudley . Don't see how a return to the South Western League would improve standards in the West of Cornwall though . Would that have stopped Falmouth Town totally mortgaging their future by overspending on players that were brought in from higher leagues and far afield ? Standard of football has been falling for years . This years Peninsula League is noticeably poorer than last season, Buckland were promoted ,Saltash have gone backwards and Falmouth are in crisis . Bodmin Town are probably not as strong as they have been in the past, but they haven't needed to be . Most of the regulars at Parkway are of the opinion that we have a far weaker squad than a couple of seasons ago . There are a lot of bang average players around who are massively overrated ( and overpaid) They would probably be playing at P&D,East Cornwall or Combo level if they had been around 20-25 years ago . No doubt they will all be climbing on the great summer transfer "merry go round " in a couple of months time.....
  22. Was surprised it finished with everybody on the pitch after the way the game started in the first few minutes . First half was not the greatest quality , but was always gripping as both sides looked pretty well matched and were restricted to half chances . Second half was a different story , Villa looked sharper, more organised and played the better football as the game went on.We had a couple of escapes before Sam Stevens got Villa's first and apart from Jamie Bass' late goal to bring it back to 2-1 ,do not remember Parkway making any other clear cut openings . Not taking anything away from Villa (who were worthy winners),but too many Parkway players looked out of form and jaded . We need to beat both Bodmin and Newquay in the last 2 matches , and rely on Villa slipping up in their last 3 matches . Second place (and the Western League) feels like it's gone now .
