  1. Salute to Garry Turner at Parkway . He has probably spent more time at Bolitho Park than at home this past winter , and will probably spend most of the summer getting it ready for next season . In fact , I salute all the volunteers who work on all the local pitches
  2. Will Dan Jennings be on the move to the Premier Division this summer ? Seems like a bit of a hot property that Wadebridge will do well to hang on to .
  3. Steady on lads. Hey Way of thepark , that was a bit harsh. Beaker , We can discuss this in a rational and adult way at Priory Park in a few weeks . Assuming you're brave enough to step out from behind your alias that is .
  4. I would hope Parkway take promotion for reasons I have previously stated . I am merely a supporter of the club though , and not involved with the administration and running of it, so I have no informed knowledge of the inner workings and decision making of Plymouth Parkway . The people who will make this decision at the end of the season will be the officers of the club ,these are the people who have all the facts surrounding the club's current position, and will decide accordingly . I am sure that whatever they decide will be in the best long term interest of the club .The gossip and speculation can be left to the idiots like Beaker The battle for second place between us an Elburton Villa is making it an interesting end to the season though .
  5. Richard Gibbons - now that was what I call a central defender ,would clear man or ball with the same commitment . Always looked intimidating the way he would pop his gum shield in his mouth before challenging for a high ball . .
  6. Went to St Austell's ground for the first time in about 15 years for the Parkway game last week .Massive improvement ,seems like a club going in the right direction .
  7. Get off Beaker's back everybody . Bodmin Town have made an application to join the Western League..... in 1974 .It's obviously been lost down the back of the filing cabinet . ( Just been thumbing through the excellent, " A View From The Terrace - One Hundred Years Of The Western Football League").
  8. Would be interesting to hear the opinions of Buckland fans ( Karen And Mark used to hang around on here, not sure if they still log in ) on the comparative playing standards, standards of facilities, effect on home attendances of losing local fixtures, effects of the extra travelling etc,etc . I used to follow Liskeard in the eighties, and there was a real sense of pride and achievement in the club playing at the highest possible level . Also made the Cornwall Senior Cup a tough competition as all the South Western League clubs were really up for a crack at Liskeard and Saltash . The Good Friday and Boxing Day derbies between us were also much anticipated fixtures locally . Very different times financially though as both clubs were well backed by local businesses and had a lot more revenue coming through the clubhouses and other sidelines (Liskeard had a full time commercial manager) . By the early nineties though the sheer cost of the travelling, the recession of the time dwindling revenues coupled with spectator numbers and local interest tailing off as the club was no longer challenging for honours ,made it unsustainable for both the Cornish clubs to compete at Western League level ( South Western League clubs were also better able to attract the quality players through having greater player budgets as a result of much lesser travel overheads . Can remember Blazey picking off Steve Nute,Dave Jones and Bradley Swiggs from Liskeard one season and being amazed at the reputed offers on the table) . You could argue that (with the exception of a few seasons for each) neither Liskeard or Saltash has ever really fully recovered their position at the forefront of local football since dropping out of the Western League .In common with just about every other club in this area ,numbers through the gate and in the clubhouse have been on a downward trend for years I do believe that a club should always be looking forward and playing the best level that it possibly can .But all the factors around the argument are extremely emotive and complex ,with many things to consider ( and certainly would not be resolved on this forum) . I am certainly glad that it is not one I have to take
  9. Who got the Parkway goals ? Thanks Pete , I'll stick a mention in the Parkway v Newquay programme for Saturday .
  10. Leaner ,you are questioning the judgement of a man who knows his pasties . In a leaving presentation from one of his past employers , the then manager of The Bald One recounted a story of how he once passed over the smoked salmon at a buffet, and instead demolished seven pasties .
  11. Article from The Western Morning News, 28th September 2012 . Bodmin Town manager Darren Gilbert believes he can get the best out of troubled striker Glyn Hobbs as the Priory Park club aim to retain the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Premier Division title this season. Hobbs, widely regarded as the most gifted forward at Peninsula League level, has been held back by off-field problems and has never realised his full potential – but Gilbert has insisted that he is the manager to sort him out. He said: "Glyn knows this is his last chance to win some trophies and he says he wants to do that with us. "He has got to prove that to me, both on and off the field. As soon as he starts causing any problems, he's gone, he knows that. We have a happy group of players at Bodmin and I'm not going to put the team spirit at risk by having somebody here who's going to upset the apple cart," Gilbert added. "He has been at the wrong places, nobody's ever got hold of him and brought the best out of him. I will do that. We'll get him fit, for a start. He realises he's not at the top of his game at the moment, but we can work on that as long as he wants to."
  12. Does anybody know who got Parkways goals last night ?
  13. The scorers were Warren Daw for Parkway ,Sean Downing and Ellis Laight for Bideford . Really good first half performance from Parkway , seemed to relax and play some good passing and possession football . Needed to take the chances we created though as the 3 level gap in leagues showed as the second half wore on . Downside on the evening was both Marc Bonney and Paul Heveran picking up injuries . Paul Heveran's looked worryingly like a broken foot .
  14. Shane is a superb player and a nice bloke as well . Hopefully a bit of a break will help him get his mojo back . Would love to see him back in Parkway shirt if he feels he needs a change of scenery .
  15. Notice Shane Krac was at Bolitho Park today, and not playing for Bodmin . Injured , or a late season transfer in the pipeline ?
  16. Always enjoy the Senior Cup Final . It is a really good day out if you turn up early to watch the Junior Cup Final as well . Quite often the atmosphere generated by the crowd is better for that game. It is usually between sides who genuinely relish the chance to play in a showpiece game .
  17. I'm afraid Glynn has no shame! I remember when Bodmin Town signed Mr Hobbs that Darren Gilbert came out with something along the lines of " he's been allowed to get away with silly things at his previous clubs ,but that won't be tolerated here . "
  18. Poor is probably a bit strong . But I agree with you about the general standard of the teams in the Peninsula Premier .
  19. As for the half time tea , I haven't told Mr Bald One what I stirred it with.... .
  20. so why feel sorry for him..... As said above not for something he said You answered my question first AND Then you edited your post AFTER you had listen to the radio!! Why would you think that the sending off would be premeditated! I'm sure he would have been warned about crossing the line on more than one occasion before he was sent from the dug out! He wasn't warned because he hadn't done it before. It happened very early on in the match. As for the premeditation - I said I would hate to think it was, not that it definitely was. However, the decision was so harsh, so early on, in a match that was as big for a manager to enjoy as much as a referee and the two teams of players! I stick by what I first said - have to feel sorry for Gilby. Did catch Darren's post match interview on Radio Cornwall yesterday . Mentioned early on that he would not talk about the referee as he doesn't like doing that , then spent most of the rest of the interview talking about the referee ! Hard luck though Bodmin . Really fancied you to go much further . Is the FA Vase the hardest (comparatively speaking) of the domestic competitions to win ? The sheer amount of games, the travelling for sides that are not used to it and that the fact that you are playing teams that you know very little about would make it so in my opinion .
  21. Spider , I see where you are coming from. The outburst above was said in an aggressive confrontational manner and I am sure that if this happened in a pub there may have been a fight. I think good refs do take into consideration frustration , but some of the noise from the dugouts are just not neccessary. The ref will not change his decission. But it is not about this decision ,it is about trying to put something in the referees mind to influence the next decision . I direct you towards the undisputed master of this , Sir Alex Ferguson .
