  1. There are signs that the attitudes are changing for the worse in rugby , look at some of the statements made about officials at professional level from the respective coaches of Saracens and Leicester . As the stakes get raised in the new professional era (European qualification,promotion/relegation,new contracts and bonuses depending on refereeing decisions),then things will gradually move to that of the ones seen in football . This will in turn permeate down through the levels and age groups and will be deemed acceptable .
  2. I would love to see some of the Peninsula League managers have a go at refereeing/lining a match . Work them in gently by putting them in charge of a Duchy,Trelawny or P&D League match, and see how it goes . Should not be a problem for them as they are all obviously complete experts .
  3. Yesterdays game highlighted how you have Bodmin at the top of this league ,a block of clubs with little between them after that and the bottom two being well adrift . Call it competitive , or lack of overall quality . It's your choice . We missed John Heveran and Dan Griffiths badly yesterday ,them being respectively our defensive leader and the most creative player . Not sure when either will return, John Heveran being out long term could explain why we tried to get Gavin Coulton . Scratchy, nervous and shot shy performance yesterday from Parkway against a Torpoint side that worked very hard and always looked like they could get something from the game .Two of their Parkway old boys , Paul Baker and Jimmy Alexander, were regular thorns in our side . The worry is that it is our home record that could cost us a top two finish . We have now dropped points at home to Saltash,St Austell,Blazey, Liverton and Torpoint as opposed to taking 24 points from a possible 27 away from Bolitho Park . As The Bald One has pointed out , we are very reliant on Ryan Richards for goals as well ( he has scored 20 of our 50,have to say as well that ,for a player who has been portrayed on here as a moaner,he worked tirelessly for the team in a left side of midfield role) . Lewis Coombes will hopefully improve on his debut today , but we really need others to start getting on the scoresheet .No player other than Richards or Dan Griffiths has bagged a goal since the 30th November .
  4. Well done Bodmin ! Thought at the start of the season that given their dominance of the league and the strength of their squad (and a few home draws)they would be able to give the Vase a real go . Am I right in saying that it's only four matches from Wembley ?
  5. "We'll play again . Don't know where , don't know when .... "
  6. Can see several reasons for and against this ; For - Would help to stop illegal approaches during the season (although they would probably still happen in December as the window approaches). Might make players think through who they sign for in the summer as they would have to live with their decision until January . Managers would have to think carefully about their recruiting policy in the summer . Could have the effect of bringing first and second teams at some clubs closer together , they would have to use all resources at the club instead of drafting in replacements . This forum would be white hot on January 31st Against - If a club suffered an injury crisis ( goalkeeper for instance) they would not be able to bring anybody in . They would not be able to make an inspired signing to turn the season around, especially in the event of a managerial change . Agree to the point about a club having to cut the budget mid season , would they be able to draft in "cheaper" players if that happened ? Would there be a danger that clubs with a larger budget would hoard players at the start of the season , thus denying them to others . How would it apply to players who are not registered with SWPL clubs ? Certainly an idea worth discussing though
  7. Garry Turner and the rest of the groundstaff deserve huge praise for even getting the match on , big parts of Bolitho Park were underwater on Friday morning . Agree with you Paul , pretty good match with plenty of decent play considering the conditions. Probably felt more like two points dropped for both teams ,but it would have been tough on either team to lose this .. We had two disallowed goals and hit the crossbar twice, but Lewis Coombes and Seb Broomfield are probably kicking themselves for not putting away their two chances . Thought your goalkeeper had the game of his life in the second half . Blazey looked one of the better sides to come to Bolitho Park this year .
  8. All the stuff on this thread sums up why I have stopped posting things on this forum . Started off as a thread celebrating a Cup Tie between a minnow club that have put a lot of time and money into improving their team and facilities and pushing themselves forward ,and one of the big names of Cornish football who are gradually getting back on their feet with a vibrant young side after a horrific past season . Something , I am not sure what , has turned it into a slagging match . Similarly the thread about the Liskeard manager . That has been dragged into the gutter for one reason or another . Used to look at this forum all the time , found it filled the gap left by a shrinking local media in finding out what was going on . The banter used to be sharp , but also funny and honest at the same time .A lot of the stuff on here has turned personal and downright nasty . Can't really be bothered with it now . That's the last time I will be on here . I'm expecting a slagging off , but I won't be replying . I won't be reading it
  9. 1 point from 2 games . No goals scored . That's put a dent in your promotion hopes .....
  10. Think I will keep out of this one. lol Makes a change Beaker . Why not worry about your beloved Bodmin and keep your Beak out of everybody else's business .
  11. Shane Krac was superb at Parkway, but on too many occasions he was having to carry the side on his own and was getting frustrated .Doesn't have to do this at Bodmin as they are rarely tested by other league opposition ,so is blossoming as a result . Unlikely that he is going to get tested at a higher standard with Bodmin , so it will be interesting to see how he fares against stiffer opposition in the Vase if Bodmin progress to the latter stages .
  12. Parkway 0 St Austell 1 ( HT 0-1)(Josh Bragg) ( Will Stringer sent off ) Pretty poor game of football between two pretty poor sides . Only counted two efforts on goal in the first half , Mark Berry hit the bar for Parkway's effort and Gary Penhaligon palmed in a tame Josh Bragg free kick for St Austell's goal ( and their only on target shot of the match) .The mass melee late in the game briefly made the decision to sacrifice the central heating and the sofa worthwhile , very little else of any note to remember from this game . Three defeats , eight conceded and three scored with two sendings off in seven days for Parkway . A week can be a long time in football . Getting a little nervous about Penzance visiting next week now .
  13. I give up . One of the vital rules in life is not trying to defend something you don't believe in . We aren't the only ones doing it though , it's been going on for as long as I can remember . Can remember plenty of Saltash and Liskeard players turning out for South Western League clubs when the fixtures allowed it back in the eighties , also recall Steve Daly turning out for Bodmin and Blazey when the Tiverton season finished . I agree ,should be one man one club, but no rules have been broken .
  14. Who were the seconds fixtured to play? Can't see any result Got me there Dave .
  15. I believe Sam is still getting over a dose of tonsilitis .Good man management takes many forms , one of these is accepting that things aren't working and that it would be best if people moved on . The players that departed in the exodus last season made their choice at the time , not many of them have been missed . The club does seem happier and more united without them .
  16. With regards to Marcus Martin and Stewart Yetton both turning out for Parkway on Friday night , we were missing one player ( Paul Heveran) injured and one or two others were doubtful with knocks so were only fit for the bench and not the full 90 minutes . As the seconds had a game yesterday we could not draft any of these lads in ( as we had done for the previous two games ) . It was the same when Chris Wright and Danny Lewis played in the Bovey game as well ( I would dispute the ringer tag for Chris Wright , he has long connections with the club and has turned up to watch when Buckland do not have a game) . Glyn Hobbs playing for us in a off game at Buckland in the FA Cup though , that is another matter . I , along with others, was not comfortable with that .
  17. During the dramatic events of the past few weeks there were regular updates and reports on the Spotlight Evening news , during one of these reports they did a talking head segment in which they were out and about in various locations within the city asking people for their opinions . Many were saying how the club needed to be saved and how Truro needed a football club . Well now is their chance to back actions with words , the Heaney factor ( and any grudges from the past have gone) so it is now the time tor "use it , or lose it ," A population of over 17,000 in Cornwall's most prosperous town should be able to drum up enough interest and backing to keep the club going . If not , it closes . Simple free market economics .
  18. Parkway 3 Liskeard Athletic 4 ( HT 1-1 ) ( Parkway scorers Ryan Richards 2 , Will Stringer pen) Parkway on the end of a cup upset tonight despite including two Truro City loanees in Marcus Martin and Stewart Yetton ( for the five minutes or so before he was forced off injured anyway) A pretty flat and listless performance from the home team with too many players looking off their game and one or two were ( if I'm being honest)downright poor . Not taking anything away from a young Liskeard side that looked well organised, committed and energetic but that is the second time in four days that we have made a struggling side look better than they probably are .They managed to get goals at crucial points of the game when we looked like we were going to get the upper hand . On Tuesday night we got away with it because of the quality of our attacking play , but that couldn't come to our rescue tonight . Worryingly as well our defence suddenly looks vulnerable , teams seem to be able to get at our back four and unforced errors are creeping in . Well played Liskeard and good luck in the next round, but Wayne and Darren will be looking for a big reaction from the players in a tough looking away trip to Camelford on Tuesday .
  19. Parkway 3 Cullompton 2 ( ht 2-2) ( Parkway scorers Ryan Richards 2 , Callum Martindale ) Still trying to work out how Parkway had to come from twice behind ( conceded the first within the first couple of minutes ) to end up hanging on for the three points in a game that seemed at times like attack versus defence . Felt like it could have been another midweek Bolitho Park banana skin game in which chance after chance went begging and the away keeper has an inspirational game . Was mighty relieved when Ryan Richards stooped to head the ball in after Mark Berry's effort came back off the crossbar , and then he also headed away a dangerous cross at the death when it was a case of panic stations defending . Berry, Martindale and Richards were superb going forward for us , but our midfield ( minus an in form Lance Bailey) and the defence looked very open at times .Cully appeared to be far too good a side to be in the bottom two ,whereas Parkway keep the unbeaten league start going .
  20. Well played Bodmin Town . With their squad strength ( and a bit of luck with home draws) they could go a long way in the Vase this season .
  21. Said on here before that if (somehow)you get each club to declare their budget and arrange it from top to bottom,it would not look much different to the end of season league table .
  22. Good to hear the positive stuff being said about Parkway on here . We've had a really good start in the league with an exciting group of players that Wayne Hillson has brought together ,it's far too early to talk about second place and promotion.Let's just keep on winning the games and see where that takes us .
