  1. Like the idea of transfer windows during the season . Players would possibly then think through who would they would sign for a bit more carefully . No more signing on for a big cash incentive in July , only to think better of it in September . The only thing that would worry me would be clubs with higher budgets stockpiling players that they would not neccessarily need in order to cover all eventualities, and indeed to stop other clubs having them . This would have the affect of concentrating the better players at even fewer clubs than happens now . Players would not be able to move on in search of getting games until the window re-opens .This would also remove the chance of a manager making a canny signing of a player that could transform the season . I think then we would be getting into the realms of budget caps and limits on the amount of players you could register . Alas, these would be totally unenforceable .
  2. Does anybody else think that we are perhaps a bit hasty in cancelling games ? Let's take the example of Torpoint v Parkway which was called off at 9.30 this morning . As I sit here typing this (1.35pm-ish ) , it is now pouring down with rain ( as was forecast for about this time ) , and it is now probably about 5 or 6 degrees above freezing . Could the powers that be not have resolved to have another look at midday-ish and, if they were satisfied that conditions were improving, pushed the kick off back to 4.30pm or 5.00pm for example . Because of the close geographical nature of the teams there would have been few issues with getting teams to delay travelling , although I am not sure who the officials were and where they were travelling from . Just something to think about (although with the rain falling we are now probably into a waterlogged pitch scenario) .
  3. Ivybridge have been in freefall for a while now ( when they have actually played ). Not sure about Cullompton though . Seen them a couple of times this season and thought they looked a decent side , cannot work out how they are so far down the league .
  4. Can't see you exhanging pasties and cider for Pimms and cucumber sandwiches somehow . You could get your wish though , at this rate we might not finish until approaching June anyway .
  5. Big fixture pile up on the way . By my reckoning Parkway have 18 games to play in 15 weeks . Keeping in mind as well that we are only in the first week of February , there is plenty of scope for more weather disruption . (Just checked the long range weather forecast for next week .Lots more rain on the way , waterlogged pitches this time next week ?)
  6. We are now into the second half of the season and the table can now be pretty much divided into three categories ; The contenders The middle of the table sides The relegation battlers . My question is this , if you fall into the second category( and are out of all the cups ) , would you reduce your playing budget ,coast the rest of the season out and save the money for next season ? Or would you carry on as normal and build momentum for next season ? This would be the correct approach in my opinion . I have heard of this happening in leagues higher up the pyramid , this can have the consequences of some quite strange results involving mid table sides , I am interested in other people's opinions on this .
  7. Is the managerial silly season starting early this year ? Heard lots of " I heard this from someone who knows someone who knows someone" rumours this time last season . None of them turned out to be true . Whatever happens clubs and teams carry on . The increasingly carousel nature of local leagues means that when the music stops , teams usually end up as weak or as strong as before , and in pretty much the same position in the league . If players and a manager don't want to stay at Parkway , then so be it . The officials and supporters with a true feeling for the club will still be there .
  8. Sounds like a whole can of worms being opened here with regards to illegal approaches ...... On another subject though , where has all this newfound Blazey money suddenly come from ? Why was it not available before ? Is it just for the remainder of this season , or has new financing been provided on a longer term basis ? Much as want to see Blazey stay up I would hope that the long term future of the club hasn't been gambled on a short term fix .
  9. Darren Hicks is a name that keeps coming up . He's not sure if his long term future lies at Saltash . On a personal note , I would love to see Blazey staying up . They are a traditional old club with a lot of history , and I would miss the cut and thrust of the forum debates with Dan Blazey . Just keep your hands off our players .......
  10. wonder when your going to sort out that bumpy car park though ha ha. It's part of a new revenue stream for the club . The authentic Neil Armstrong Lunar Landing Experience
  11. Parkway 1 Dartmouth 1 This has to be looked at as a point gained and not two lost for Parkway . We looked completely bereft of ideas , energy and confidence for the whole game . Dartmouth scored early after going through Parkway's defence like Mexican tap water through a tourist .Only poor finishing meant that they didn't get two goals immediately afterwards . In a desperately poor game that looked more like a Sunday morning game than a semi-pro encounter , Parkway huffed and puffed in the second half and eventually equalised via a Ben Joyce toe poke aided by a deflection . Impossible to judge Danny Zalick on his debut as he got pretty much no service , as for the rest of the team ( excepting the tireless Shane Krac who was trying to carry the midfield on his own , Martin Piper who was pretty much a spectator and the sight of Will Stringer gradually getting back to fitness and showing glimpses of his leadership and class ) , the least said the better . We need to wake up out of this malaise ,and quickly if the season isn't going to disappear slowly down the drain .
  12. You sampling the Bolitho Park hospitality tomorrow Mad Ferrett ? Come and enjoy one of our pasties, say hello to myself and Mr Bald One and (hopefully) watch your Dartmouth lot go home with no points .
  13. Heard that Jimmy Alexander has left Parkway . Pretty decent player for somebody to pick up .
  14. Any truth in the rumour that Darren Hicks is rejoining Falmouth Town ?
  15. Ok, so any news on possible arrivals at SALTASH UNITED? Must be time for the peripatetic Mr Hicks to move on again? Saltash again? You must win some sort of award for the "Best Use Of The English Vocabulary" on this forum . Never seen the word "peripatetic" on here before . Not even from "Ron Jeremy" in one of his posts .
  16. ***** NEWS JUST IN ***** ***** THROGMORTON CUP ORGANISING COMMITTEE IN URGENT MEETING TO DECIDE SANCTIONS AGAINST BODMIN TOWN **** **** POSSIBLE ORDERING OF REPLAY AGAINST PARKWAY WITH HOME ADVANTAGE FORFEITED OR EVEN EJECTION FROM COMPETITION AS ULTIMATE SANCTION **** **** OFFICIALS PROMISE "THOROUGH INVESTIGATION" ON REPORTS OF NO PASTIES FOR SALE AT GROUND ****
  17. The buzz at today's game is that Danny Zalick is not coming . I like Ben Joyce a lot , but I do not think he is natural goalscorer and has many other facets to his game , comparing him to Andy Sargent or Chris Wright is like comparing marmalade to tomato ketchup . Both really good things , but doing different jobs . Sam Stevens, on the other hand, does look like he is a potentially useful player buried in a complete lack of form and confidence who is possibly a little out of his depth at the moment . In my opinion , a run of games in the ECPL side where he could get a goal or two and become comfortable in his position would probably do him a world of good . Not privvy to all the reasons behind the departures of Sargent and Wright , but I have thought since this that we have lacked a real goal poaching striker who likes playing on the last man's shoulder . Sounds like Gez and Wayne are attempting to address this ,but I guess that clubs who have these are not going to let them go easily.
  18. Nearly, but not quite for Parkway . Undone by a Bodmin Town side that just seem to know how to win key matches . Parkway started the brighter , but it was a case of almost but not quite , we looked brighter and sharper in the early stages with Dennis Mason, Glyn Hobbs, Shane Krac and Ben Joyce prominent, but moves always seemed to breakdown before efforts could be made at goal . Bodmin slowly gained the ascendancy down the slope as the half went on,and scored via a wickedly deflected shot from about 10 yards out .Parkway did dig their own grave though by repeatedly failing to clear the ball from the area . In a mirror image of the first half , Parkway came out strongest after the interval and had the majority of the play . This was eventually rewarded when Krac powered in a header from 6 yards off the underside of the bar . Parkway then turned up the pressure with Hobbs always looking a threat , but were unable to convert this into clear chances , this was except for Sam Stevens rounding the keeper and contriving to miss the target from inside the 6 yard box . Indeed , to the neutral observer , Bodmin looked like the away side at this stage . Even after Dennis Mason being sent off for a two footed challenge(not disputing the dismissal , or in any way condoning Mason's reaction afterwards , but the way the player stayed down, and the Bodmin bench leaping up as one was probably unwarranted),the match went in this vein , but the feeling of the inevitable went through me as the game edged towards extra time and , sure enough , Bodmin began to fashion chances through the luxury of the extra player.Cuminating in a Bodmin player breaking free on the left hand side and cutting in to send a right footed shot beyond Martin Piper . No complaints really with the result , we feel like a side at the minute that does not have a lot of goals in it . We got on top of todays match for long periods , but I cannot recall their keeper being tested on many occasions . We also continue to look like a side that has the potential for sendings off and bookings , this was summed up by the conversation I had with a Bodmin fan afterwards "you play good football , but you also play right on the edge with your tackling. " Sides like Bodmin who are always in the referees faces will exploit this . One final note , the matchday magazine was probably the best of the season so far . Superb read for £1.00
  19. Great and brave decision by all at Falmouth Town . A real incentive for you to now have a real good go at the league in the second half of the season .If Parkway and Buckland don't make it up this season ,then it would be a pretty good consolation for the champions to go up. Are Bodmin Town going to sneak a last minute application into the Western League ? This news sort of blows away the argument about geography and extra travelling expense .
  20. But Sam Cooper certainly did . His excellent knockdown led to Kanakh's goal . Compare Liskeard to the first half of last season , and the stride forward is immense . Not the most talented group of players , but Darren Edwards has certainly got them working together in a common cause . I am sure that they would have been happy with a top 8 finish at the start of the season .
  21. No score for the Boxing Day pasty yet Mr Bald One ? ( I thought the second one would have helped you decide !!! )
  22. What repercussions could there be from The FA if no (eligible)clubs seek to advance ? Would Vase and FA Cup places be in jeopardy , or would FA grants for facility upgrades be more difficult to obtain ?
