  1. Falmouth have the highest average attendances in the Western League by quite a distance, so I guess that this would translate into a decent playing budget.
  2. Reconfiguring sides to keep 1 player happy rarely works. One of the challenges of being a football manager I'm afraid. Everybody says that you need a strong squad with plentiful cover in each position if you're going to be successful, but you are always going to end up with unhappy players who aren't getting time on the pitch. Presumably Helston are now going to be looking to bring another forward in to maintain squad depth.
  3. Yes, possibly not appropriate, but The Deerhunter is the story of the traumatising effects of war on (usually) working class young men that are sent by the ruling classes to fight it. And how the after effects never really leave them. Agree with you about The Doors, over indulgent, rambling and dated rubbish. Back on the football, looks like Matt Cusack has got Jordan Copp firing on all cylinders. When fit and interested, one of the most talented players around. Clearly reaping the rewards of being settled at a club and having a coach that believes in him.
  4. Must be a few seasons since Mousehole lost back to back league matches. Mini slump in form, that's now 3 losses from last 4 league matches. No cause for panic yet, Parkway had a similar sticky spell in the Southern League Div 1 of 2021/22. A few adjustments and tweaks, and it worked out OK (they ended up as champions). Expect Jake Ash and his staff are going though a similar process.
  5. For anybody who's not seen the highlights, they're worth watching for the Dylan Jones goal. A real bit of magic from a special player.
  6. Reality starting to bite for City. 4 defeats in last 6 means they are only above the relegation zone on goal difference. Going to be a long, hard winter by the looks of it.
  7. Reading the comments on their Facebook, his departure after 5 months hasn't saddened many. "He came, he wrecked us, he f**ked off" was one example.
  8. Yes, a great result for Spurs against a full strength Tivvy. Was keeping it Cornwall focussed though.
  9. The St Austell and Bodmin wins are the stand out results. Any idea what sort of side Bude put out? Guessing no River Allen as Tivvy played tonight (not a good start for their new managerial team).
  10. As in rugby league? Their season is March-October (ish). York have football and rugby league ground sharing at their new community stadium, they play on one of those hybrid grass/plastic surfaces. Not sure how playing rugby league in the summer months on a pure grass surface would impact upon the usual repair/replace activity that goes on over this period on the pitch.
  11. Going to need a damned good pitch if that is the plan.Ashton Gate is home to Bristol City and Bristol Bears, and has a surface that is hybrid grass and plastic. No idea what City are going with, but would think that the Ashton Gate example is bloody expensive.
  12. Assuming Truro are back in their home city next season (at a modern ground with good spectator facilities), and hopefully playing at step 2 level, do people think that this will have a detrimental effect on the gates for other clubs in the area? Thinking specifically of the floaters that currently go to Falmouth and Helston.
  13. Helston are a double cup winning side from last season, who are 3 pts off the top of the table this time around and with a game in hand. Makes you wonder what would make the people of the town support them. They do all the things that other clubs have been criticised for not doing (several mens sides, women's teams and run a large youth set up), yet still can't interest the locals.
  14. If there was a full Southern League program yesterday, would Bude have been unable to raise a side and forced to forfeit the game?
  15. Does it fall under the heading of, "don't make unnecessary journeys?"
  16. I'm sure that the decision to call the match off, and lose a Saturday's gate money and associated revenue, would not have been taken lightly.
  17. Leigh Robinson named as the new manager at Tiverton. Have to say, didn't go too well for him at Truro and Dorchester. Best of luck though, looks like a tough job he's taken on in turning the season around and keeping Tivvy up.
  18. What a humble and unassuming man, totally out of kilter with someone who was regarded as one of the toughest defenders around (and it was very much an era of hard men centre halves). Thoroughly enjoyed it.
  19. You could say that about a few of the players at Liskeard, they've done really well to stop them being picked off by the step 4/5 clubs in the area. Hopefully, one that did leave for a challenge at a higher level, James Lorenz, can be enticed back next season (assuming he is over his knee injury that is).
  20. Just my thoughts. Going to be a thrilling Western League end of season, the play offs have added another dimension. Makes me wonder what could have been in the SWPL last season if the proposed merger hadn't collapsed.
  21. If I had to punt on it, I would say that the budgets of Helston, Barnstaple and Bridgwater will turn it into a 3 horse race at the top. At the business end of the season, come next March/April, their budgets and resources will become a factor (including the ability to take players off their rivals or pull them in from step 3/4 clubs). Would expect the title and play off issues to go down to the last day though.
