  1. Seems a shame, looked good on the couple of occasions I saw him play. Holding midfield is the sort of player that Parkway haven't had for a few seasons now (arguably, not since Christian Pople),so thought he would fit in well once he had acclimatised to the higher level. The statement says "by mutual consent", so we don't know if personal or professional circumstances influenced the decision. Step 3 football is a big commitment though. Know that I can't really comment as I don't watch them home and away every week, but that is the 4th of the 6 summer signings to depart in the first 3 months of the season.
  2. Not disagreeing with what you're saying regarding Town needing a focal point on their attack, but it was only a few weeks ago that they were attracting plaudits for their style of play and that they were sharing the goals around. Just a couple of "off games", or been worked out? Time will tell I guess.
  3. Back in his Parkway days, him and Rob Farkins used to go at it like an old married couple.
  4. Was the Helston GK Kyle Moore? He could start an argument in an empty room. 😁
  5. Mate of mine follows Salisbury and was there last night, said that they certainly knew that they were in a game. Even playing with 10 men for a large chunk of the match, Parkway pushed hard and had good chances to win it. According to what he told me, Parkway didn't look like a side at the wrong end of the table. From his description, Salisbury's late winner was a bit of magic. Very fine margins indeed against a high flying side, who look transformed under a new manager, but Parkway remain in the bottom 4 with almost a 3rd of the season played. No game this weekend, but the upcoming home games in which they play struggling Didcot and newly promoted Totton in the space of 4 days look pivotal. The strong home form from the early and middle part of last season needs to be rediscovered. A slightly worrying stat (and i hope i've got this wrong) is that Parkway have only won 4 of their last 20 league games, which is relegation form. Parkway aren't on the wrong end of heavy defeats anymore, but the draws and narrow losses keep coming.
  6. About 3 quarters of the way through it. At the risk of sounding like I'm blowing smoke up Rappo's whatever, it is one of the better football autobiographies that I've read.
  7. A lot in that Jon. Used to work with someone who's lad went through the Argyle sausage machine from 9 up to 16, then joined Portsmouth , until he was released by them when he was 18. After that, he walked away from the game completely. Every bit of love and passion for football had been coached out of him Saw a post on social media recently about a DJM team looking for "experienced players". They were under 9's... Problem is Rappo that those spaces where you can have those mass games of impromptu football are becoming scarce. Probably still a few around in rural Cornwall (where kids probably don't live anymore) but I would imagine that the "dump in Marabar" (and its like elsewhere) is probably a housing estate now. This no doubt has roads and paved areas filled with moving and parked cars, and plenty of "No Ball Games" signs.
  8. Parkway sign free agent former Argyle midfielder Cameron Sangster, and he goes straight into tonight's squad for the game away to Salisbury. Would have thought that central midfield was an area where Parkway were well stocked already (they sent Alex Cairo out on loan to Mousehole for game time),and that the forward positions were an area that needed additions. Wonder if somebody is injured or departing.
  9. Listened to the excellent match commentary (courtesy of Basingstoke Town Twitter) yesterday afternoon, it did sound just as Lee Hobbs said post match. Parkway were well on top for most of the first half, and had good chances. Matt Wright (who is vastly experienced at this level) has 1 league goal this season, as has Reece Thomson. In my opinion, Dylan Jones while a very exciting prospect, is raw at this level and a spell out on loan to a step 4 club (as Alex Cairo is enjoying at Mousehole) would probably be very beneficial. I know that there aren't many about, and those that there are would be very costly, but a top notch striker taking these chances, and complimenting the now pretty solid defence, could send Parkway up the table quite quickly.
  10. Mousehole the only team in the top 6 to win today. Life looking a lot better for Tavistock as well, now up to 8th in the table.
  11. City are nothing if not resilient. How many equalising/winning goals is that in the last 10 minutes over the past couple of seasons? Was going to go, but chickened out on account of getting drenched on my run this morning. Mugs of tea and Netflix felt more appealing this afternoon.
  12. Extends Parkway's unbeaten league run to 4 games. Not enough to lift them out of the bottom 4 though, and Harrow's away win at Winchester means they go above them. No idea if Lee Hobbs is still actively pursuing a new striker as goalscoring seems to be an issue now. The leaking of goals has been stemmed, but only 1 goal has been managed in each of the last 4 league and Trophy matches. Up next, tough looking away match on Tuesday night against high flying and unbeaten at home Salisbury. The sort of match where Parkway tend to get results.
  13. Bridgwater adding to an already formidable looking squad. The race for the title, and play off positions, is going to get very interesting.
  14. Remember both Falmouth and Liskeard taking a couple of beatings by a Parkway side en route to the treble. Agree with everything you say there, both clubs (and their grounds) had an air of decline and decay about them. 10 years on, a very different picture. Lots said about Andy Westgarth at Town (quite rightly), but Martin McHugh, Richard Woods and Martin Hodge did a similar job at The Blues. They also built the club around a core of very talented local lads such as Jarrad Woods, Max Gilbert and James Lorenz.
  15. I have a pair of glove puppets for sale. £10 or near offer, just want someone to take them off my hands ...
  16. SWPL Prem, bottom part of the final league table for 2013/14 (just about 10 years ago). Interesting to see some of the names here, and to compare them with where they are now. Mousehole and Helston weren't even in this division! Shows what can be achieved if you have a vision and plan, and stick to it (bit of money helps as well). 13 St Blazey 38 14 4 20 72 72 46 14 Camelford 38 14 4 20 59 79 46 15 Bovey Tracey 38 13 7 18 62 95 46 16 Falmouth Town 38 8 5 25 46 84 29 17 Elmore 38 6 8 24 62 110 26 18 Cullompton Rangers 38 4 6 28 45 117 18 19 Tavistock 38 2 5 31 34 107 11 20 Liskeard Athletic 38 1 5 32 32 140 8
  17. Depends on him holding his nerve, also assumes he stays in post. Bodmin feels like a club in perpetual turmoil, so things can change quite quickly.
  18. Like the idea of taking the show on the road occasionally. Recording the show live from a clubhouse before the match, speaking live to one or two individuals involved in that afternoon's match. Another thought I had was for a regular monthly slot from a referee. This would be in the same way that Jon Colenzo contributes, you could invite any queries or questions that can be put to them. Overall though, love the podcast and the exposure it gives to the Cornish clubs and players. It helps us long distance fans to keep in touch with what is going on. If I was to have a slight moan, it is a bit too Peninsula League heavy (understandable I guess as that is where most of the football is played in the county), but I would welcome more Western League focus. Don't know if something along the lines of what Phil Hiscox contributes is possible?
  19. Regarding Eric Perez, and the Cornwall Rugby League set up, this was on the BBC Sport website a few days ago. https://www.bbc.com/sport/rugby-league/67099742 Looking at the success of Catalan Dragons in Rugby League Super League, he obviously thinks there is potential in developing a side in an area that has a strong Rugby Union heritage. Being a spring/summer sport, the use of Langarth would dovetail nicely with Truro City. All speculation on my part though.
  20. Just read on social media that the ex Liskeard and St Austell midfielder Jimmy Dent has passed away
  21. Tavistock average home attendance 2023/24 - 190 (up 21% on last season's final figure) Buckland average home attendance 2023/24 - 210 (up 14% on last season's final figure) (source; nonleaguematters.co.uk) Not much in it really, both clubs are improving their gates.
  22. Barnstaple Town issued a lengthy statement in which they refuted claims made on social media about the clubs being in financial trouble, and having to slash their budget. The next day, their manager resigns and moves from an unbeaten team to one in the same league that has lost 10 of their first 12 games. If people weren't wondering about what is going on at the club, then they are now.
  23. Looking on from outside, St Austell have brought back a lot of the old guard in Brokenshire, Eddy, Slateford and Miller (plus the very experienced and prolific Adam Carter). The plan was obviously to blend them in with the exciting youngsters they have at the club (Noah Teagle, in particular, must have come to the attention of the step 5 clubs in the county) Several of the older heads featured in the St Blazey title winning side last season, who knows, if St Austell win the title and get promoted this season (Liskeard must be the hot favourites, but could still hit a sticky patch), a few might not fancy the additional travelling and could pop up at Bodmin next time around?
  24. Will leave this message hear rather than adding another message to Rappo's probably overflowing inbox. My copy was waiting for me when I got home, really looking forward to reading it (although I came up across a picture in the middle that might well put me off my dinner later 😁). Thanks also for the lovely handwritten words inside the front cover.
