  1. First time since 1978 that I have not bothered to put up a World Cup wallchart. No interest at all in this wretched tournament.
  2. Great read. Makes me wonder how many clubs at step 1 and 2 (without the benefit of a sugar daddy writing the cheques) are on a knife edge financially. Think I'm right in saying that all the National League clubs are now full time, no idea how some are managing this on average gates of less than 1500.
  3. Looks like Millbrook narrowly got past Launceston last night. Another respectable result for Neil Price's side, who look like they are improving and not far away from being competitive. They may have lost 5 games from the last 6 games, but all the defeats have been by the odd goal.
  4. After the story about referees elsewhere on the forum, this is a great bit of news and shows that there are a lot good people on the Cornish football scene. Was really worried that the G could go under and not see the season out. On the subject of swimming off the Cornish beach, is it true that the sea is actually pretty warm (or not freezing cold anyway) in October and November? You're a stronger man than me, a nice steady 27 degree water temperature in the leisure centre is more to my liking!
  5. Sounds like it was a horrific injury suffered by Bath City's Alex Fletcher after 5 mins of their NLS match v Dulwich last night. From reading reports, he crashed head first into an advertising board and had to be rushed to hospital. He has undergone emergency surgery, and is now described as "critical but stable." Looks like Twerton Park (one of the more "characterful" old grounds) has pitch side hoardings that are fixed to concrete pitch side walls, not sure how many grounds at steps 5/6/7 in Cornwall have similar designs. https://www.devonlive.com/sport/football/football-news/alex-fletcher-suffered-serious-head-7800286
  6. I would love to see the two players that were sent off given the option of doing a referee course (in return for having any forthcoming suspensions rescinded), and then officiating at a match themselves.
  7. Shepton started strongly, but their results seem to have slipped recently with only one league win in the last 6 games, and are now in with Mousehole and Buckland in the group behind the front 2 of Bridgwater and Saltash. I'm guessing that they will take a group of players with them to Paulton, who sit just outside the play off positions in Southern League Div 1 South.
  8. Folk on here have been saying for a while that a big problem with Bodmin is the lack of locals in the team, and a connection to the town. Well, Dane Bunney is taking steps to rectify this, and has announced in the last few days the signing of three local youngsters who will join the Peninsula League squad. Best of luck to them, it will be interesting to see how it works out.
  9. Perhaps referees should start to think about taking collective action here. Some sort of withdrawal of labour, a selected Saturday when there are no officials available for example (effectively going on strike). Might focus a few minds.
  10. My apologies Gary. Full time didn't list the unused subs.
  11. Looked like 2 points dropped, and not a point gained for Mousehole. Especially as it was against a side that are down towards the bottom of the league. Jake Ash's team have only last once, are unbeaten in 11 league games since August and have 3 games in hand, but with Bridgwater and Saltash powering ahead at the top, drawn matches must feel more like defeats. Interesting as well that for all the talk on here last week about the size of squad that they have, only 2 subs were named on Saturday.
  12. Would seem like the best way forward, but, whenever did local football run on "sensible ideas?" Newquay and Godolphin merger would seem logical, but years of rivalries and history would make it a non starter.
  13. Know that the majority of players are on contract, and heard rumours about what they are getting paid. Know that when Charlie Madden moved to Truro last season, Dorchester are reported as saying that they couldn't match what was on offer in terms of length and terms of his contract. Keep wondering where the money is coming from. The gate money can't amount to much, and I'm thinking that they get nothing from food and drink sales, bar takings or pitch side advertising from Bolitho Park games. Noticed as well that in the Hayes game a few weeks ago, they had no shirt sponsorship either.
  14. Know that Deacs is trying to get Truro City's Alex Black on the podcast in order to put these questions to him.
  15. So, do you think that Truro playing at Bolitho Park has made it easier to attract players from the Plymouth and Exeter areas?
  16. Sounds like a good philosophy for football (and life). Wasn't that long ago (within the last 10 years) that Liskeard were on the wrong end of a similar hammering at Parkway. After the club hit rock bottom that season, it's been a long and hard road back. Couple of years previously, can also remember a pretty dire Blazey side take a beating from a Glyn Hobbs and Shane Krac inspired Parkway at Blaise Park. They've similarly made their way back. Difference possibly between these clubs and Godolphin, is that they are in one club towns and with a lot of acquired history.
  17. On the occasions that I have seen Truro play over the last few seasons, Tyler Harvey has stood out, I would say that he is capable of playing at National League level. Wonder if clubs have looked at him recently? One or two other players at City also look good enough to play higher, thinking of Will Dean and Comor Riley-Lowe. Consider the calibre of squad that Paul Wotton has put together, it must be difficult for players in a table topping and unbeaten side to run out in a virtually deserted ground every couple of weeks. Makes me fairly certain that something must be in the pipeline for next season regarding a new ground back in, or close to, their home city. Just wish somebody from the Pirates or Truro would actually go public on this.
  18. Being able to use five subs per mtach means more players can be kept happy, and not just be there as bench warmers. Do wonder as well if some are being signed up to keep them away from their rivals (especially as the race for the top four slots hots up). Suspect that it won't be long before you have a match between two sides that have "accumulated" players, in which all thirty two are used, while another match will be called off through a side being unable to raise a team.
  19. In unrelated news, believe that Blazey, as a cost cutting measure, are one of the clubs that have 2.15pm league kick offs.
  20. Have to say that, for such a progressive and well run club, their website is pretty poor and lacking in detail. No fixtures displayed for any of their various men's or women's sides (just links to Full Time), only first team results and news for the last few weeks and no player or management profiles for any of their teams.
  21. Mousehole Development second in the St Pirans West, unbeaten and with games in hand. Something must be going right for them.
  22. Missed my attention, but Ronnie Radford passed away yesterday. Scorer of one of the great FA Cup goals on a quagmire pitch as Southern League Hereford beat Division One Newcastle in a third round replay. That tackle he made to win the ball and get the attack moving ,would have been a definite foul, and at least a yellow card, in today's game.😀
  23. Is Jared Sims still in post as Head Of Youth at Mousehole?
