  1. Weston are one of the stronger sides in the league and many pundits tipped them pre season, so it is not a disgrace to lose to them. According to my man at the match, Parkway played well for decent periods yet Weston had the extra cutting edge and class and predictably picked off a side chasing the game. Sadly,n the writing was on the wall when they were 2-1 down at half time. The squad does look very light, and I would be surprised if Lee Hobbs isn't active behind hhe scenes at getting reinforcements in. Several missing again today, Mike Landricombe and Austen Booth both 'away" for unspecified durations, Jack Crago out with (I believe ) a broken wrist and Brandon Pursalll back at Argyle after his loan spell had finished. A patched up looking side with converted winger, Mikey Williams at centre back, and Jamie Lowry being brought back to cover the gaps in midfield. Only 3 outfield players on the bench as well.
  2. A very interesting question, and something I have thought about. Given that as of the 2021 census there were around 15,000 Poles living in Plymouth alone, you would think that there are step 5 and step 6 (or higher) standard players in amongst them. Thought that you might start to see Eastern European teams appear in local leagues (there is an FC Romania in the Southern League).Know that Parkway had a Ukrainian player on trial in pre season, but it came to nothing.
  3. Great stuff from the Bucks, sure everybody will have a brilliant time at one of the South West's friendliest clubs. And, given the proud footballing tradition that Ukraine has, they could entice some new regular supporters or even unearth some footballing gems.
  4. Few home draws, and who knows. Few guys in their squad who are matchwinners on their day. Aside from the regular names in Bowker and Tucker, i've heard that Tor Swann is a handful.
  5. Cannot be said enough times what a tough league it is. Hanwell were well beaten by Truro on the opening day, but went third yesterday by beating a Tiverton side who looked strong after signing well in the summer. In many ways, Weston is a free hit for Parkway on Monday. Nobody is expecting anything against the joint league leaders, Lee Hobbs should remind the squad of what the doubters are saying and treat if like a cup tie.
  6. Just arrived at resort in Greece, hooked on to WiFi and seen the score. Don't know how that can be spun as anything but a hammering. Think Lee Hobbs has enough credit in the bank, for now at least, but the table doesn't look pretty at the moment.
  7. According to Southern League website, River Allen signed for Tiverton. Not clear on what basis, part time or permanent.
  8. Did social media training several years ago at work. The golden rule was that if you wouldn't be willing to see your comments on an advertising billboard on a busy street, then don't put it on the internet.
  9. Or one fifth of a St Blazey star midfield player's brown envelope. Allegedly. 😀
  10. Brandon Pursall, Argyle player currently on loan at Parkway, is from Saltash.
  11. Good luck to him. Suspect we'll never know for sure the details of what caused him to be sacked from Blazey, but this is a boost that Dean Cardew and Torpoint could do with. Remember that Ryan Fice played a big part in getting Callington back on track.
  12. Kian Burns is a star wicketkeeper/batsmen in local cricket, which restricts his football availability at this time of the year.
  13. You're very right in principle , and yes, the best outcome would have been for Truro to stay and play in Cornwall. However, the reality was that Truro had less than 6 months to get a ground up to step 3 standard (still think it was a combination of rank bad planning and a little bit of denial by City's owners, but that's for people better informed than me). There was simply no way that the scoping of work, design and architectural work, planning permissions, sourcing of contractors and getting the work done could have been from a standing start in 24 weeks or so at (for example) Priory Park or Bickland Park. Parkway had done all the preparatory work, got planning permissions and had the finance in place already for the upgrades, it was just brought forward a few years. If anybody is really bored, have a look at the FA's ground grading criteria. Then they would appreciate the differences between grounds and facilities required for Peninsula League football and the Southern Prem.
  14. One for more tactically minded folk than me but, just as with most players, strikers can be better suited to one particular system. For instance, Glyn Hobbs was virtually unplayable as a lone forward for Tavi in 2016/17 and then Parkway in 2017/18, while Jordan Annear looked a bit out of place not playing as part of a two for Parkway in 2018/19.
  15. Jordan Annear and Liam Prynn are the Falmouth "Guns For Hire." Both listed as Town players on FA Full Time.
  16. That's the problem with Cornish football these days, too many of these new "trendy" first names. Whatever happened to all the "Tony's", "Alan's" and "Keith's" ? Real football names ... 😀
  17. I know it will inevitably become about Falmouth and the F-Troop, but Helston now putting together a bit of a run after their opening day reverse. On the other hand, Torpoint still looking for their first win in the league. Will be interested to hear from anybody at The Mill last night after a 3-0 reverse against Barnstaple, a side that will probably be in the leading group at the end of the season.
  18. With Callum Martindale suspended, Saltash needed to maintain their quota of "Callums" . Callum O'Brien and Callum Merrin also in squad.
  19. The Vase is the only one that everybody takes seriously. The FA Cup and League Cups are a distraction for clubs that are looking to win the league, get promoted or stay up, and likewise, the FA Trophy is a nuisance for the bigger non league clubs that have other priorities. No, the Vase is something that everybody has a real go at. There's the attraction of getting a run in it to visit clubs in far flung parts of the country, or bringing unsuspecting teams from more "fashionable" football areas down for a difficult day in a "sleepy Cornish backwater." And, as St Austell showed in 2014/15, get beyond Christmas and you can start to dream about Wembley.
  20. The FA Cup is good for earning a few quid (agree that it's frustrating that the Cornish sides seem to attract like magnets in these rounds), but it's the Vase that's special. In my humble opinion, the best of all the national knockout competitions. Still got a real magic to it, the one that everybody takes seriously. Will Rikki Shepherd be suspended for this?
  21. Thanks Dave. Sorry to hear about Roger Fice. A great goalscorer, successful manager and also real character, in the Cornish scene.
  22. **** up at FA towers yesterday when they accidentally announced the 2021/22 draw, before realising what had happened and circulating the 2022/23 ties. Initially Parkway were down as being away to Gosport.
  23. Curtis Damerell has become a really potent player in the Torpoint attack, and has come back well after a disappointing spell at Parkway. Wonder if clubs from higher levels have made a note of his goal scoring record and had a look. Know that Bideford and Tiverton both keep an eye on players in Cornwall, and have given them a chance in the past.
