Went watched the G Vs Sticker match G went 2-0 and i thought same old G they went in 2-1 down an dthe 2nd half they came out and where playing really well  should of scored when he hit it so hard it hit the cross bar he had earler had a free header when he shoud of scored . The G continued to play really well and went 3-2 up with about 8 mins left then in crazy 2 mins they let in 2 soft goals when bad defending from Defenders and goalkeeper cost them the match and they lost 4-3 ,a draw would of been a fairer result but they will be ok if they play like they did the majority of the 2nd half and they have there regular goalie who shouts commands and is confident in his handling .Ref had quite a difficut game with lots of niggly fouls and ex G player Isaac Varga had to go off inujured thats after he had put Sticker 2-0 i thought the ref had  a lgame but no doubt some no it all willl come on here and say i must of watched a different game well this is my opinion of the match i actually got off my ass and went and watched .Mom for the G Matt Saunders a collosus at the back and for Sticker the little no 11 who had  a great game .Next stop Mt wise to see a cracker of a game hopefully when Newquay play St Blazey my tip for the title and to go the whole season in the league unbeaten .Thats  all for  now Well done Sticker Hard luck the G

6times - I’m not convinced it is dropping that much but it is certainly a different game. There are a group of young players 18-23 year olds who are technically excellent / fitter and I would argue better than their predecessors in the SWL.

Easy to forget a couple of years back was the first time the County Youth got to national finals, most of those players are playing SWPL & Western Prem, but several became disillusioned and gave up - it’s more that the ‘top’ teams prefer to buy in the same old players rather than building. If ‘top’ managers like Laffs, Darren and Steve continue to buy rather than build the standard will then really drop.

No doubt there were some ‘greats’ playing SWL - but a lot of them were earning more 20 years ago than clubs pay now - and would have been playing even higher if it weren’t for the money at some teams.

I think Matty has actually gone to Parkway. Strange comments from Stuart really, Camelford never complained when he took Matty and Kian (to a higher league and more money) and just wished both players well - especially Matty who worked through his injury at Camelford and always wanted to give it a ‘final’ go at playing as high a standard as he could.
Anyway good win for Tavi tonight (without Matty in the squad.

Saltash v Camels best SWPL game I saw last season. Visitors football was a delight. Bridgers looked good in PSF v Helston I saw.
All the teams you mention have ability to surprise with starting XIs,but squads maybe not deep enough for title challenge.
Cally  had a few out but looked impressive  in PSF against a strong Tiverton side. They will, I'm sure, be the most *improved* team this season. After recent  seasons of struggle good luck to them.

    Camelford 1 v 1 Cribbs
Watched this one last night on a very pleasant cooler evening, with a fairly strong wind blowing the length of the pitch.
As with every PSF Camels were some players light and Cribbs brought a squad of about 18 and are a well coached and disciplined team. Luffs their manager has brought in some higher league players for them to have a push in the Hellenic League next season and their style of football is very simple - they stay very organised and compact when defending and then break with numbers when they win the ball back.

First half was fairly even, Camels having more possession and shots but Cribbs had ‘better’ possession and looked more dangerous. Cribbs scored on about 40 minutes from a well worked goal and excellent solo finish by Muzza, who to be fair missed a couple as well. Camels seemed to lack the flair and speed of movement they usually play.
Second half saw Camels come more into the game as an attacking force. Game was faster, Cribbs relied more on their counter attack style, but to less effect. Camels scored on 75 minutes with an excellent Tom C free kick (one of many they won around the edge of the box), game ended 1-1 which was a fair result.
Good game and good luck to Cribbs for next season

Watched Camelford v Penryn last night. Both teams missing players (Camelford had no keeper or centre backs so made for some entertainment). Good competitive game and both teams got good minutes out of it. Camels won 3-2, could / should have been a few more but Penryn will do okay next season - some good players (keeper made great saves) and the lad Reevie up front a handful), well organised and well coached and wish them good luck back in the SWPL.
Only downside was the officiating - letting too much go caused problems with some combative challenges - no one what’s to see cards in friendlies but you don’t want to see broken legs either - sure the ref learnt from it as he’s a young lad who I’ve seen before and will develop into a very good ref.

Mark - it is only pre season but as you say always good to put in good performances across the team and you can only play what’s in front of you on the day. Looking forward to watching Penryn - obviously hoping for Jack to have an off day😜

WofTP - I recognised about 7 of the Tavvy squad who I have seen playing for them before along with Matty Andrew’s who was at Camels last year (great player) and the lad Vincent who I have seen at Cribbs. They had half a dozen young players in their squad - a couple of whom looked good (bit unfair Greygen) - but were clearly missing a few key players (as were Camels lol).
BHD - I didn’t think that the CCFA insisted in appointing officials before and I know that a lot of officials pre season may be entitled to fees but often don’t take them as like the players they are preparing for the season. Camels certainly don’t pay players for friendlies - it just adds a cost that clubs have to pay out for and by appointing officials rather than using local ones means they travel further and more ‘deserving’ of expenses - when they turn up lol
I rate Tavvy and their coaching staff and irrespective of last nights showing still have them down as potential title chasers.

WofTP - can’t disagree with your assessment. I think it would be daft to think Falmouth / St Blazey and Bodmin will not feature heavily next season.
One thing - Camels will be fine - lost Matty (quality player and good luck to him) to Tavi but got Ed back from Uni as a Step 5 player - plus some good young signings and some back from injury / being away in Forces with no losses to Uni, so will still give the top teams a game.
IMO if you want to watch ‘proper football’ come and watch Camels / St Austell / Penryn / Liskeard / Wadebridge - dare I say Falmouth - teams that have built over the last few years, rather than good clubs who have bought teams for next season.

Mr Gilbert always puts out a decent team, will be interesting to see how many of them actually start the season and stay - but some good young lads there who need a bit of stability and the guidance Darren can give. Good luck to them (except when playing the Camels, obviously)

Dave - there are still teams in the league who pay £10-£20 a game and a lot of those players are better than the perennial ‘big money’ players who move at the drop of a hat for cash. The less paid ones also seem more loyal and spend their ‘expenses’ over the bar in the host club - they play for friendship and enjoyment. I have seen some of the players mention in this post, pulling large sums of money from their tracksuit pocket (not wallet - as if they have just been given the cash) for a can of coke and going home - so I would suggest the figures quoted are accurate  I don’t blame the players for taking the cash (they are not the fools) - but there is something wrong when players get paid so much and some managers seem to think that because they are being that much they have to give them more to attract them - and the cycle goes on
A lot of the players going to St Blazey, for example, were outstanding (and still good) - but many are ‘getting on’ and haven’t played a full season in two years - why don’t managers plan for the future and build teams rather then buying them - sorry for rant lol

Having watched a fair bit of Western League football over the last two seasons - all three will be top half and I could easily see two of them challenging for the top slot - bearing in mind some good WL teams have moved sideways out of the WL. Just hope they can keep it going and actually use plenty of Cornish players.

Personally think it’s a good move and will make the West SWPL more competitive next season - and that there are a few clubs that will surprise those who  support the old guard teams - easy to forget the actual playing performance last season and just remember the big clubs.
