  1. Thanks for the informative response Easterfield, your extensive knowledge of football at this level frightens me. A complex situation where clubs reaching agreement is not going to be easy that's for sure. In my opinion a step 5 league governed by the Peninsular league would best serve the needs of clubs in Cornwall. Would that be a view shared by clubs in Devon, Dorset & Somerset? I'm not so sure. Apologies for not taking the time to have A chat yesterday, I promised the wife I wouldn't be late home.
  2. There was talk of a European super league but that never happened... Can anyone on here see it materialising?
  3. Has anyone else been led to believe league restructuring is imminent and the Western League will be enlarged, in the same way as the Southern League was a few years ago, resulting two divisions at the same level in the non-league pyramid. Western league Central and Western league West? It would require (2x18) 36 teams minimum to get off the ground but surely this is achievable if SW clubs step up to the plate, and sides who have defected to the Hellenic league can be lured back. Pie in the sky or could it be true?
  4. I was at the Buckland v Mousehole game today and fair play to the visitors. A convincing second half display made them worthy winners and the way they played was very pleasing on the eye.
  5. Playing four games in the space of five days would be incredibly unfair on the players as well as totally irresponsible towards their development.
  6. No, No, No... I wouldn’t want the club to go though what TUFC fans have had to endure for 12 months. In all seriousness, a Somerset/Bristol/Cornish based manger ought to be a consideration given the progress made by Parkway and Willand, both tapping in the pool of fit for purpose players living in Devon.
  7. Just heard the news myself, not surprised either. Another cosy appointment or do they go for somebody similar to Steve Massey again? If the southern league is their next target the latter would make more sense to me, but what do I know about it. Are there any candidates in Cornwall capable of recruiting a team good enough to win the Western League?
  8. The performance was dire and the natives I spoke to were not happy after the game that’s for sure. But what many Bucks fans fail to acknowledge is the players who helped elevate the club in recent years have moved on and the cosy relationships between manager, players and the club itself no longer exists and sadly never will again. Managing ex-pros and lower league mercenaries can be difficult even when you are winning. After yesterday’s result it isn’t going to get any easier that’s for sure. With their season effectively over and we are still in September it will be interesting to see what happens next. Maybe a change of manager is required?
  9. I Went to see Buckland Athletic v Newquay yesterday and the home side can have no complaints with the result whatsoever. The group of players who showed more desire and passion won the game and are deservedly in the next round by dumping out of the competition one of last years semi-finalists. A great achievement, well done. Major talking points: The Buckland sending off was an incorrect decision by the referee - a routine yellow card for a cynical foul on the half way line not the denial of a goal scoring opportunity. The penalty decision late in the game? It was the correct decision, but the manner in which it was given was not convincing. The Man of the match was the tricky winger who gave the Home sides full back the runaround all afternoon. Somebody said he was Spanish not Cornish. He was excellent. Buckland kept pumping the ball long and created few threats while Newquay played a cute passing game that made them look like the team who play at a higher level. Great to see so many away supporters at the game yesterday and good luck in the next round. I hope you get a kind draw. Brian
