In contrast - great start for champions Bodmin as they finished 5-1 winners at home to Tavistock.

They took the lead after just two minutes or so when Ben Smallridge was fouled after a great run into the box - Mark Berry scoring from the spot and just after the half hour doubled their lead after a rare fumble from 'keeper Meads. He spilled Berry's left wing cross and Karl Turner touched home from close range.

8 minutes into the second half shouts for a penalty after a possible push on Tavy's new signing Adam Carter were turned down by ref Paul Lister which ended up with Tavy's boss Ian Southcott being asked to leave the dug out.

Worse was to come for the visitors when Luke Hodge ran in from the left, beating any thoughts of being caught offside, and crashed the ball into the far top corner of Tavy's goal to make it 3-0. Meads made a great save minutes later to defy Tom Chambers, but couldn't stop Turner getting his second soon after when he headed in a Hodge cross from the right. Sam Matthews, on as a sub was fouled in the box by Chris Menhenick and Berry scored his second penalty of the afternoon to make ie 5-0.

Even then there was still time for Carter to make it 5-1 with the game's third penalty of the afternoon.

Bodmin : Miller, Farrant, Chambers, Simmonds ©, Morgan; Smallridge, Colwell, Marshall, Turner; Berry, Hodge. Subs on Campbell, Morris, Matthews.

Tavistock : Meads, Arscott, David, Menhenick, Bevan; Coxon, Blatchford, Stringer ©, Davies; Carter, Hobbs. Subs on Conday, Allen, Martin

Good win for Bodmin. I thought Tavistock would be a force this season. Mind you Bodmin very strong team and it only the first game but maybe a wake up call for Tavi and Falmouth.

I always think it is sad when the league table is put up when only one game ! or some never played are higher in the league than those that haven't!! :D

Elburton Villa 2 Falmouth Town 1 Terrible start for Falmouth.

True to tradition John,

Falmouth have not won their opening fixture for the past seven seasons and only 3 wins in the last 15 seasons.(10 of which were Home)

I didn't make it to Elburton (gridlocked on the A30) so awaiting match details from 'Pidge'

It was Falmouth's first defeat at Haye Road and the 152 gate was a SWPL(P) record for the ground.

I heard that there was no Sean Flynn, Dave Rawlings, Richard Wilcox, Matt drummond played with knock and Tom Smith played with ankle problems. I heard Danny O hagan had falmouth goal. Villas winner came in 92 minute from a **** up by Hugh Howlett. Dont know how accurate this is but i am a report will follow. or maybe the quicker this game forgotton the better?

Perhaps a midweek game with the seconds would help for them to get a better understanding with each other.

The potential is there but with two PSF's cancelled it would be a better preparation in view of the forthcoming F A Cup at Ilfracombe next week.

Ilfracombe who lost 1-2 in their opener have a midweek league match at Willand Rovers and should be match fit.

A game which is very winnable for Falmouth and then prospects of two Home (prizemoney)ties to follow.

I see Penzance have arranged a midweek friendly (between League matches) at Camelford to maintain a momentum and probably build up team spirit and understanding.

I think you are right Mike. The Fa cup are the money spinners and you always want to go into these games with confidence and a full team. But never underestimate the power of the Fa Cup! Sorry to diverse away from the topic here. but perhaps Mike you could post Falmouths recent Fa cup history! tHANK YOU IN ADVANCE IF YOU DO
