Just watched the newquay vs g match not a classic like last year g played the best football but a 1-1 draw a fair result the pitch played a big part in the match badly cut up bu the main problem newquay couldnt score was sean semmens lovely all pink goalkeeping kit very nice sean good job you wasnt playing in the 70s in that kit back to the match not a lot of goal mouth action but g played some lovely passing football and have several fine young players playin well done to derek martin and his team and staff. :c:

Guest Uncle Albert

Wadebridge Town 0 Bodmin Town 3.

Hat trick from 16-year-old striker Chris Luxton (26, 45 (pen) and 71 minutes).

Good crowd at Bodieve. Something approaching 250.

I think the lad who supports Torpoint who calls himself fingers said there were about 8 from Torpoint.

Not a bad crowd seeing as we had the silly situation of St Austell kicking off at 11am up the road. Surly both clubs should be looking to stagger kick off times to see as many through the gate as possible.

Good match. Draw was welcome as I dont think we played well at all today and Torpoint looked dangerous.

The Ref had a shocker. Not against St Blazey, or against Torpoint, just awful. Players didnt no why he was giving decisions. The Ref and lino gave different decisions time after time for the same incident. Contantly talking to players when theyd hardly done anything whick resuled in the game being stop start. :angry2:

Cardiff 0v1 Argyle!!! :yahoo:

St Blazey 2-2 Torpoint Athletic

Attendance 160ish (7 or 8 from Torpoint)

Dan not sure where you get that from because I know of at least ten Torpoint supporters watching close to me.

Anyway whichever side you were watching we all ended concentrating on one performance only ;)

Torpoint programme editor said they had brought 7 or 8. Contrary to popular belief, I don't make stuff up!

Regarding the attendance, or rather lack of attendance, at the St Blazey v Torpoint match today, one has to say that its not exactly the usual Boxing Day classic for either side.

In the not too distant past, St Blazey v St Austell and Torpoint v Millbrook would have understandably attracted more.

It also has to be mentioned that Torpoint's ECPL side were home to Saltash in the morning. Perhaps this meant fewer travelled as well!

I know it's not the deadline for clubs in the East & West Divisions to apply for the Premier Division until March 1st, but at this moment in time, any views on which clubs would, are, or eligible to do this anyway!

Present top seven in the West Division :

HAYLE

PERRANPORTH

ST AUSTELL

GODOLPHIN ATLANTIC

NEWQUAY

PLYMSTOCK UNITED

PORTHLEVEN

Newquay look the most equipped, but hate to say it Judge, they're chances are getting slimmer game by game! Promotion could be too far away for them again.

St Austell kick off at 11am 264 fans

St Blazey kick off at 12pm 160 fans

Shocking idea to see both clubs not staggering kick offs to attract bigger crowds.

Both games poorly attended even so.

You could argue both clubs had decent crowds considering the kick off times and opposition but if St Austell were to get promoted wed be looking at 500 plus for a boxing day derby day!!

264 isn't really a great crowd considering it was a Boxing Day derby with a team from 5 miles up the road.

Most of your crowds are in the 80s or 90s and this paints a truer picture. With village side, St Blazey averaging between 100 and 150, it's easy to see which side is the best supported in the local area.

I was impressed by the number of people in the St Blazey clubhouse after Saturday's game. Your committee should be congratulated on their planning for the day which meant one bar was full of people watching football on TV and the other with kids and families watching the children's entertainer.

Given the decisions conjured up by the referee during the game (and I have to agree with the comments of Paul etc), I wonder whether he did a quick change at full time to move from outdoor stage to indoor stage :D

Funniest moment had to be St Blazey manager screaming "ref, ref" to get his attention for what seemed like ages, only to be rebuked by the ref with a remark we couldn't hear to which the manager replied along the lines of "How can I calm down if you keep ignoring me."

I know I've been criticised for criticising others before but I am convinced the referee's performance was affected by the fact that he was being assessed. It seemed that he didn't get the right balance between controlling the people and controlling the game which leads to lots of whistle, lots of lectures, disagreements with his assistants but two fair penalty shouts - one for each side - being missed.

Rationally I know it can't happen, because the marking has to be confidential, but I would love to discover what the assessor made of the performance. I'm sure there would be some good points in that most of the LOAF were being applied properly but there were surely some negatives around man management and teamwork with his assistants?

Progressive club Hayle have hinted in future upgrading facilities and Porthleven have stated they would take the promotion offer this time.

Newquay and Penryn who meet the ground criteria will have to make a surge now to make the top two finish.

Not sure on Perranporth or A F C St.Austell whether any foreseeable planning is in place (ie.floodlights etc) for the transition.

Major ground improvements ongoing at St.Austell - first main phase all but finished with everything else in the pipeline I believe. It is a torturously slow process when dealing with Council etc but it's getting there thanks to the hard work of the committee (especially Darryl Stamp). Once finished Poltair should look superb and be relatively vandal proof!

Planning for the New Club house and Floodlights have been submitted.

Aim obviously is to get the biggest town in Cornwall up the pyramid as soon as possible.

Things take time but more has happened at AFC St Austell over the past 3 years than has in the prevous 50.

Just have to be patient.

Money man

Fantastic news! I think a floodlit club in Snozzle will be a great thing.

Will you be applying to join our league next season?

As Simon Tonkin said on the radio on Saturday, Bodmin vs Falmouth or St Blazey vs Bristol Manor Farm. Which one is more likely to attract the neutrals?

4 or 5 Cornish clubs show genuine ambition to join the Western League, I think it will be worth it

Sorry Dan, but what would be the benefit to the clubs, supporters and general followers of Cornish football? <_<

Let's just take all the ambition out of the game, shall we then Dave! It's essential at all levels of the pyramid that clubs want to progress up it - it's what keeps the game alive.

Manor Farm is one example, but I know a lot of people who would be attracted by St Blazey against quality sides like Bideford or Ilfracombe and the standard of football that would be on offer.

If clubs want to be ambitious, they should want to play at the highest level possible, simple as that.

Personally, I would hope for a further restructuring which would favour the Cornish sides who have been geographically penalised for years now. There is no logic at all in a step 5 league stretching from Land's End to Wiltshire; It's FAR bigger than any other step 5 league's area as far as I'm aware.

Why not cut off the Western League at Bristol, pushing other clubs into Wessex or Hellenic Leagues, and automatically raise some of the top SWPL step 6 sides into Western Premier based on league position and facilities. The ones who should be at step 5 anyway and are only stuck at step 6 because of geography.

I could easily see a 20 team Western Premier that looks like this:

St Blazey

Barnstaple

Bideford

Ilfracombe

Willand

Dawlish

Wellington

Street

Sherborne

Bishop Sutton

Welton

Radstock

Bodmin

Buckland

Penzance

Tavistock

Torpoint

Falmouth

Parkway

Saltash

Why not? Seriously, why?

Before you mention about other leagues being flooded, the Hellenic League is in need of strengthening (both in terms of standard and facilities) and the three Wiltshire clubs could be easily absorbed into the Wessex League.

It could be one of the best things to happen to football in Cornwall and it seems so simple to me!

Ha ha .... your above comment reminded me of a few years ago when the to be officers of the new South West Peninsula League always considered me a dangerous enemy and doubter of the new structure. The fact was I never committed myself either way to supporting or knocking the venture.

And once again Dan, I was purely putting a question to you as I was keen to hear your thoughts, not at all did I sound off against the idea!

Money Man, who are you?

Perhaps you could PM me the planning number for this application as I would be very intrigued as to what has been submitted, if indeed you are correct. (I cant find any record of it on the CCC website.)

To complicate matters Bideford have officially applied to join the Southern League although precautionary, it is far from certain they would take up any acceptance.

This follows previous Western League clubs Frome Town,Truro City, Bridgwater Town and Taunton Town who have made recent moves to the Southern League.

Boxing Day gate of 750 at the Sports Ground v Barnstaple Town.

Reading between the lines-It doesn't look iminent for a St.Blazey v A.F.C.St Austell SWPL 'derby' for now.
