Jimbo
Newquay returned to winning ways with a hard fought win at Dobwalls, in deteriorating conditions. Newquay came out of the blocks quickest and Luke Weldhen put them ahead with a fiercely struck left foot shot. 5 minutes later after a great jinking run from Jake Hartigan down the left, he crossed for Weldhen to head in back past Dobwalls keeper. Weldhen was prevented from a perfect hat trick when his right foot shot was well saved by the Keeper. Paul Robertson had a shot blocked on the line and the same player shot just wide when well placed. Dobwalls came more into the game as the half came to an end and young Ryan Barnes in the Newquay goal saved well from a 25 yard shot and then blocked at the near post just before half time. We were then subjected to a 15 minute downpour at the start of the second half which made the surface very difficult. Dobwalls fashioned at least 4 great opportunities in the second half but unforunately for them Barnes was having one of those days when he saved everyting they threw at him. Substitute Scott Palmer missed a great chance to increase Newquay's lead but shot wide after being set up expertly by the ever alert Robertson. Skipper Shaun Middleton then got on the end of a Paul Hampshire free kick but was adjudged to have been offside and the goal was ruled out. The pitch at the end was a quagmire because of the rain, at the start of the game it was in an excellent condition.
The Gooner
That is a pretty accurate report Jimbo. The goalkeeper was in superb form and without his outstanding performance Dobwalls may have got something from the game. Best of luck to Newquay for the rest of the season.
