Dave Deacon
More confusion as to who has actually applied for promotion from the Division One East. As reported on the This is South Devon site today, it highlights that Stoke Gabriel have applied to join the League's Premier Division next season, along with the Royal Marines. No mention of Galmpton Gents though! Stoke have a planning application to be approved before the League's May Board meeting. League secretary Phil Hiscox was quoted:"Like every club applying for Premier status, it must have lights, or plans in place to install them. Stoke say they've submitted a planning application and hope for confirmation before the league visit them at the beginning of April for a ground grading, but all is not necessarily lost if they haven't. The ground inspection is followed a league board meeting on the first Thursday in May, and that's the date that really matters. If planning consent is given by then, there's no reason for not being considered for promotion as long as they finish in the top two and ahead of the Royal Marines." Finishing above the Marines isn't going to be easy though. Although Stoke are top of the Division One with 46 points from 21 games, the Royal Marines are fourth on 38 points but having played four games less! Mike Odgers
Does that mean St.Austell,Hayle and Perranporth have (Floodlight) planning applications in place or intend to by May? If so it is great news for the progression of Cornish football

KERNOW TYKE
Good luck to all the sides who have applied its just a shame only one from each league can go up as all seven clubs deserve to be promoted not least for showing some ambition,i particulaly admire perranporth for having the courage to apply in only their first season in the peninsular and showing more ambition then some of the more established sides who are quite happy to remain in the lower leagues. Dave Deacon
Ah ha, an explanation to the confusion regarding the Galmpton promotion bid. Firstly, they have definitely been accepted, but only just! Originally only Stoke Gabriel and Royal Marines had appeared to have applied from the Division One (East) with their applications in before the March 1st timescale requirement, this became common knowledge as it was announced by the League which clubs had applied for promotion subject to the usual ground grading and condition on final league positions. However, it turned out that Galmpton had applied all along, but their postal application didn't have a stamp on the envelope. The club's Chairman Stewart Hallam couldn't understand why their application hadn't been included as they had also sent in plans for floodlights and a 50-seater stand at their ground. So he promptly contacted the league after reading in their local paper - the Herald Express - that only Stoke Gabriel and Royal Marines had applied. Luckily their application was accepted as there was technically still time and League Secretary Phil Hiscox even paid the £1.30 postal surcharge! This appears to be another Devon club with ambition as their application is based on plans to move the club forward. As well as applying for new lights and a stand, the club has also drawn-up a long term lease with the Pavilion Committee for the clubhouse on the ground.
