Paul
SWPL Premier: Liskeard Athletic 1 St Blazey 4 Est crowd 70 (31 from St Blazey) Est??? There were only 70 there!! And 31 from St Blazey. Some of the crowds are bloody awful lately. Thats the worst crowd ive ever seen at Liskeard for a match against St Blazey. Even Buckland who are just a few games from a famous first title can only manage just over 100 fans. Lucky to get a program tonight. Had one of the last ones from the top gate. Had to laugh when the managers notes were all about their game with Torpoint and the league table was out of date about 2 months ago!! But to give credit where its due, Liskeards ground and pitch is looking as good as ive ever seen it. The pitch was cut and level and it looked ready for the start of the season. Perfect. Speaking the man on the gate, I was told theres a retired man who does it all for nothing and spends 5 hours aday looking after the pitch. Well a big well done because you can see the effort thats gone into it. Superb. On to the football, another good win for St Blazey. 1v0 down early on but battled back with a good header from Cooper before half time. 2nd half St Blazey took the lead through an own goal after good work from Danny Zallick. The third was scored by Cooper after Higmans cross came back off the bar and Cooper smashed the ball home. St Blazey then added a 4th when Piggot cut inside and curled a great effort into the far corner. Good win, lets hope we can seal 5th postion and if we win our remaining 3 home games and theres a few dropped points above us......maybe higher!! Never say never!! :drink:

Guest Uncle Albert
Another bad night for the Peninsula League's Devon-based hierarchy. Bodmin just won't surrender, so the title race looks like going to the wire. I would say Buckland are still favourites, but only just, with those two games against Falmouth to come. Tonight, Sam Matthews scored an 88th minute winner against Launceston at Priory Park. Paul Hider had made an excellent penalty save to deny Chris Luxton on the hour, and Dominic Richardson missed a sitter in injury time, for a Launceston side who did the league, and Buckland, proud. They gave everything, defended superbly, and had one or two really good chances which went begging. Bodmin were without the influential Steve Simmonds and Danny O'Hagan, and certainly were not at their best, but they never give up. Onwards to Saturday. Buckland at Bickland and Bodmin at Cullompton. Exciting isnt it. :c:

Lafs
Hi Tony, another good result and step closer to promotion for the Lillywhites last night, well done. Certainly would be healthy for the League and the nearby Premier league Clubs to renew rivalry next season. On the subject, would be interesting to hear your opinions and anyone else connected to your club on how you think the current squad would fair in the Premier League and whether areas would require strengthening to either cement a respectable position or push for honours next season? Tony
Hi Lafs Would be great to be back with the local derby v St.B. next season. Town's crowds are pretty good and would increase with promotion (assuming it happens of course) and the Club is now very well run and strong off the pitch thanks to the hard work of the committee who deserve much praise. Assuming Andy & Parry decide to stay then I expect they'll want to strengthen in certain areas as one or two players may not be available anyway. In my opinion, Town's current squad is pretty strong and I would think probably hold down a top half place in the premier league (based on results against premier clubs in cup matches etc. It would be nice to go up as champions and the boys have done all they can to put pressure on Perranporth. Another win at Dobwalls on Saturday would make it hard for Perran but if they pip us to the title well done to them. Let's just hope we're playing your "mob" next season in the league and who knows it may be as champions and charity cup holders too - we can dream! Tony
As far as I know St.Austell have to do a few things, all of which is in hand over the summer. Planning has been approved for floodlights by the Council so I think St.Austell can go up. I guess if Town win the league then there's no problem but there seems to be no definite confirmation that Perranporth can't get promoted just what we hear from various sources, so if they win the league it's a waiting game I suppose. It would be nice for CSWPL officials to maybe confirm the position having done the ground inspections.
Dawey
Uncle Albert Thanks for your kind comments regarding Launceston's performance last night. The spirit in the side at the moment is excellent and bodes well for next season, providing Joe can retain the current squad, which I think he will. It's just a good job that we didn't have to make any substitutions last night, as the combined age of the 3 on the bench was 108!!!! With reference to the comments on the 'this is cornwall' website about Launceston officials confronting the referee and linesman after the game about their performance, i think this needs clarifying. In the first half I thought the referees performance was excellent for such a young lad. He seemed authorative and well in control, not putting up with any back chat from either side, which was refreshing to see. However, in the 2nd half when the intensity of the game increased, due to Bodmin's desperation to get the 3 points they required, some of the decisions became staggering! Imagine our amazement and frustration when in stoppage time and trailing 1-0, we take a quick throw in to Sam Davey who is stood behind the Bodmin back 4 with an opportunity to race clear, only for the linesman to flag for offside and the referee to give a free-kick to Bodmin!!! Anyway, enough bleating as we lost the game, good luck to both Buckland and Bodmin in their remaining 3 games and may the best team win!

Money Man
Hi Tony, another good result and step closer to promotion for the Lillywhites last night, well done. On the subject, would be interesting to hear your opinions and anyone else connected to your club on how you think the current squad would fair in the Premier League and whether areas would require strengthening to either cement a respectable position or push for honours next season? Laffs As you are aware we have a great squad at the moment but.... I am sure Mr Dingle and Parr will want to bring in additional quality. The Current squad easily be in the top half of the prem as indeed would most of the swpl west. The big challenge is getting in to the top 6, and as the biggest town in Cornwall that has got to be the clubs ambition if we are promoted. This will take a lot of hard work from the commitee to bring in additional funds to back the managment and then equally hard to find players with the experience at in the swpl premier div that want to join, but we have some excellent selling points now with the continued work at Poltair. Depending on Promotion we have alot of enthusiastic local sponsors willing to back AFC ST AUSTELL to do this. Exciting times ahead but it all hinges on promotion. We have a project at St austell and we are way ahead of schedule at the moment so we will have to be carefull but my ambitions is not only to be a force in the swpl prem .... but get promoted. DanBlazey
"The Current squad easily be in the top half of the prem as indeed would most of the swpl west." Um, NO! St Austell are in for a bit of a shock if they go in with that mentality!

Tony
Dan All opinion of course but I think top half is very realistic for St.Austells current squad. I think in the last 2 seasons Town have only lost in a competitive match against premier opposition to Bodmin (and that unluckily in extra time)but have beaten (easily in some cases and away from home in most) other teams such as Saltash, Torpoint, Liskeard, Wadebridge. I guess the aim would be top 6 but I accept playing week in week out at a higher level would be harder which is why I say top half is realistic. Nanks
Outsider Crappy, who was the last defender brought down their forward, about 25 yards out when clean through on goal.
sven gordan (eric's son!)
Dawey I was at the game watching and yes the linesman did flag for offside from a throwing which had everyone in stiches especially the launceston back four and the two bodmin strikers, but you said the ref gave a freekick, he didn't he actually over ruled the linesman who seemed to be on a different planet all night, good game and well done launceston who made a very good game of it. Guest Uncle Albert
Dawey, the points you make are all very fair. The young ref certainly seemed to be carried along by the increasing tension of the occasion, and his award of a penalty was harsh to say the least. But he wasnt helped by his more experienced assistants, one of whom clearly had the offside law muddled in his mind. I repeat that Launceston were a real credit to the league, and any Buckland fans who were relying on them to put up a decent fight were not let down. Dawey
I agree Uncle Albert and I do believe that given time and experienced assistants, this young referee could well be one for the future. Sven, I may well have been wrong on that one as I was having rage issues at the time at the initial offside decision, so I apologise lol!!
randy watson
Thats the problem with you Dawey ! To quick to have a go at the officials instead of stoping and thinking for a second about the decision the Ref has just made. The standard of the officiating this season has been alot better then previous seasons and would continue to improve if people like you gave them more credit.YEAH I KNOW !! Dawey
Ha ha love it Randy! Am I right in thinking that it is you that has been sent off 3 times in the last month, where as I have never seen 'Fred the Red' in all my career?!!
randy watson
No I am not he,I am a ref in P&D 6.You not seeing a red in your long drawn out career does sum you up tho.All the ability and talent but no fire in your belly , no passion and no desire to be a winner or to ever care enough to get a red card.Gary Lineker syndrome i feel, dosnt hurt bad enough when your not winning.Law of averages says you should have got atleast 1 Red in a 25 year career.Hope the kids you coach dont go the same way as you did and crucify officials when ever a decision does not go their way .Another ping from the WIZARD.
