Bobby Oaten sacked?

Recommended Posts

Bobby Oaten has been sacked as manager of Wadebridge

How can a manager be assessed over just a handful of games?

They certainly can, Leory Rosenior lasted half a day at Torquay FC not so long ago. Clever people these Football Club Directors. <_<

2clubs in 6months hells bells bobby. you will have more clubs than Daniel Nancarrow in a minute!!!!!! :clapper:

why would liskeard go for a manager who has been sacked from 2 clubs in six months?????

Desperation?

If ever there's a team in need of stability it's Liskeard! Bobby may not be the best (ex) manager in this division but he's someone who's always committed. You have to put a lot of time and effort into managing any football team and there doesn't seem a lot of people out there willing to do it.

His last few sackings seem to have been made after giving him little time to build a team. But don't forget what he did down at Blazey a couple of years ago after completely rebuilding a squad from nothing. He got a mix of old heads and fresh, inexperienced talent. By the end of that season they'd turned over the 'big boys' in the league such as Parkway, Saltash and Ivybridge and on their day were a match for anyone in the PSW. They (players and fans) liked Sir Bobby and the style of play he encouraged. So if anyone wants to put their name forward for the Liskeard post feel free to do so but don't just slag someone off for the sake of it, unless you think you can do beter job AND are prepared to put the effort and commitment in yourself!

Speaking personally, I would say that Bobby is a true gentleman with good old fashioned standards not understood by the current generation. I think he deserves a fair crack somewhere prepared to build for the future rather than buy for the present.

From the Bridgers match programme "Steggs Speaks" page today:

"The Committee felt that something had to be done and after a full and frank exchange of views, the decision was made."

"The task that he [bobby Oaten] was given needed more time [10 games] but the thought of Division One West next season was the button that stirred the Committee into taking this action."

"Dave Ferrett takes up the reins, with the task of getting all of the players to find their peak form and commitment week after week and secure some results. The Committee members who regularly watch games were getting tired of the same old tune, played well, but conceded some soft goals and lost."

After also announcing the resignation of Reserves manager Paul Thomas, the piece goes on to say that "These changes are not short term, and it is hoped that they will create a period of managerial stability, allowing all three teams to form stable units and build up the Wadebridge spirit."
