Foxhole 1 Callington 2

Saturday 15th January 2011

Foxhole succumbed to yet another defeat in a match that never rose above the mediocre. The visitors went ahead inside seven minutes when the impressive Clarke sidestepped Ralph before teeing up Moody to find the corner from fifteen yards. With the strong wind at their backs, Callington may have been expected to press home their advantage more decisively, but the Foxes were able to cope with relative ease, and Bird spurned the chance of a deserved equaliser on twenty-three minutes when his effort was well fielded by Beman. However, four minutes later, Foxhole failed to deal with a floated corner from the left, and, following a spell of head tennis, Lock nodded the ball past Holland. The keeper then to be at his best to deny Noble, who soon failed to capitalise on Ralph's wayward pass, while Lock tamely headed Clarke's corner over the bar. Ralph and Griffin each had the opportunity to reduce the arrears before the break, but the best chance fell to May, but he scuffed his shot from eight yards, Spaul being unable to convert the rebound.

For a brief period there was good reason to be optimistic in the second-half, once early visiting pressure, which saw Clarke almost force a third, was repelled. Last man Beer was fortunate to escape with only a yellow card for a blatant hand-ball, while Rescorl's header from Adam Holland's deep free-kick dropped agonisingly the wrong side of the woodwork before Griffin, fresh from a harsh caution following a clash with Beman, latched on to Rescorl's flick to fire home. Regrettably, there were few signs in the remaining twenty-four minutes of an equaliser as the quality deteriorated still further, Adam Holland's drive from thirty-yards an all too rare threat to Beman.
