Mass --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Totally agree with your point Steve..... I was in Dartmouth all day and there was no rain at all!!! Even had a look at the pitch from the outside and it didn't seem to be waterlogged in any areas. Be interested to hear when and why the decision was made to call it off because it baffled me completely. As for the mid week replay in May? I thought it was agreed that the fixtures secretary would use common sense regarding long midweek fixtures due to the geography of the new league?? NORTH DEVON DWELLER
St Austell 1-2 Witheridge Withy Scorers Steve Ebdy and Richard Groom Crowd around 80ish with 25 from Witheridge Very even game with both sides missing early chances. St Austell took the lead midway through the first half only for Withy to equalise 4 minutes before half time. Exciting end to end football in the second half and have to admit the hosts had a stonewall penalty turned down by the referee who made the matter worse by then booking the St Austell player for diving. Both sides had chances cleared off the line and the game seemed to be heading for a draw before Witheridge's captain Richard Groom powered a header into the net from a corner in the 89th minute to send the Withy supporters into a frenzy. Tony
North Devon Dweller - spot on I reckon with your report on the game at St.Austell. Thought the officials did well until the shocking penalty decision. However, thought your boys played well and always looked dangerous at set pieces. Also nice to see good travelling support from Witheridge also in the club after. Not sure about the attendance but I would guess fair few more than your estimate! green&whitebarmyarmy
i was the offender for the illogan penalty and i can honestly say that if my 'handball' was a correct decision you would see several per game, i didnt even see the ball as it was hit at me from about 3 yards, our penalty was stone wall as your defender didn't know gyles was there, went to kick the ball, but gyles got there first and your player kicked him, no arguments i didnt think you had the better chances but football is all about opinions, 2nd half you had more of the play but that was always going to be likely with the wind and the slope in your favour, but i only remember you having a couple of shots and a few corners great set up down at illogan, very impressive and the ground was easily good enough for them to move up to the peninsular league, which i believe they will in the near future, and the RBL club was very cheap and may go some way to explaining why my mate had to drive my car home!! Bit presumptuous to say it cost the game as penalties are missed quite often but none the less you should of been given the spot kick to try to restore the lead and the booking was a joke. I went and watched an evening game in the Menorcan Town of Alaior a few years back. The match was played under floodlights and on a sand pitch, I would hazard a guess at the attendance being at least 1500. Dont know what level this was? But the link below say they now play at level four Spanish league system.
