Paul
St Blazey 2v2 Falmouth. Decent game to watch. St Blazey had their chances to go 3-1 up. Didnt take them and Falmouth hit back. Great freekick but it came from our goal kick and a Falmouth player stopping Tom from kicking the ball from his hands. Then when he did, it hit the Falmouth player and eventually a freekick was awarded and smashed home. Falmouth were awarded a penalty as well but the linesman over ruled and claimed the decision was against Falmouth for a challenge on the Blazey keeper. Attendance. 80. Shocking. Lots of people didnt even no the match was on with the very late change of fixture. Falmouth only had 10 fans there. This is a fixture that usually attracts 130-200 easily. Lost money for this fixture in gate money for sure!!
Mike Odgers
Not a lot of publicity regarding this rearranged fixture-I was one who missed my favourite away match Didn't get home til 6-20pm and it was swayed by Spurs live on the box Disappointed Matt Drummond didn't get on the score sheet as his 9 match consecutive scoring record came to end-did he have any chances? He does come fourth in the Falmouth all time record behind- Phil Shapcott 11 consecutive scoring games with 20 goals 1985-86 Glyn Hooper 11 games 16 goals 1991-92 Tony Kellow 9 gsmes 15 goals 1973-74 Matt Drummond 9 games 10 goals 2010-11 Andy Waddell 8 games 17 goals 1994-95 Bernard Barnes 8 games 14 goals 1967-68 Tony Kellow 8 games 12 goals 1975-76 Joe Scott 8 games 11 goals 1975-76 Keith Etheridge7 games 13 goals 1974-75 Mark Rapsey 7 games 9 goals 1991-
The Red Viking
Actually thought that a draw was a fair result, both teams struggled with the pitch which was a bit hard and bobbly, but thought that Blazey were the better team for an hour, but Falmouth did also hit the bar in the first half. Re the pen... actually thought it was a soft decision and the linsman helped his ref out ! Was shocked to see a number of people in the bar watching the Spurs game rather than Blazey!! Right winger for Blazey had a good game, but Chappman again saved Falmouth to give them a chance of a point. Falmouth not at their best, and a lot of bickering, when things not going well. Barwell headed against the post in the last minute....
The Villains
Tiverton Town 1 Ivybridge Town 0 Fantastic game of football to watch. Ivybridge more than matched a team that plays at least 2 leagues above them. Ivybridge had their chances to open the scoring and to be honest should have caused an upset by winning the game quite easily. Ivybridge had no less than 4 good chances in the 1st half to score but Tivertons goal led a charmed life. HT 0 - 0 The second half started will both teams playing good attacking football, when on 20 mins the ref decided that the defender had committed a fouled, with the assistant ref no more than 5 yards way gave nothing, when it should have been given the other way (swap shirts at the end of the game). The only time the Ivybridge defence dindt win the first header, the ball went loose and the Tiverton striker stuck out a leg and the ball looped high over the keeper and nestled in the back of the net. A hugh sigh of relief could be heard from all Tiverton fans, a couple of half chances were missed by them, but again Ivybridge had 3 good opportunities to score, but just didnt make the most of them. FT 1 - 0 Overall a great game of football by both sides, Ivybridge outplayed Tiverton in most areas of the game and will be still asking themselves how they managed to lose the game. The game was spoilt in places by an overkeen ref, who made a couple of strange decisions. Crowd 100 ish Good luck to Tiverton Town in the semi finals. When has this figure been so low for a fixture between two of the biggest clubs in Cornish football? Depends what you define as a big club, but I would say: SWPL Premier: Bodmin Town 3-1 Penzance, 15th September 2010. Att 72. The lowest in the Premier Division this season is 22 - Elburton Villa v Dartmouth (may also be a record since the league began). And the lowest in the whole SWPL this season is 10 - Galmpton United v Teignmouth. I wonder if they did a 50/50! It's true that the crowds aren't great, but they still compare favourably to other step 6 and 7 leagues.
cornishteddyboy
I do a rough headcount attendance chart for the combo and if you look at it some of the clubs are getting attendances that are comparable to Div 1 West and East teams. Agreed they are headcounts and not actual ticket sales but the crowds have been pretty consistent over the last 3 years so I tend to stand by them. Clubs in red have increased their attendance each year for the last 3 seasons, those in blue have seen a fall each season. Team 2008-09 2009-10 2010-11 Falmouth 32.68 43.89 37.83 Hayle 27.79 28.21 28.44 Helston 35.84 48.05 48.70 Holmans 22.63 30.17 20.93 Illogan 40.74 56.05 53.10 Ludgvan 27.26 27.05 30.92 Mullion 38.00 36.95 30.27 Newquay 49.00 42.42 40.82 Pendeen ----- ----- 60.07 Penryn 36.16 47.84 58.25 Penzance 68.53 53.11 54.64 Perranwell 50.63 48.05 56.85 Porthleven 43.28 39.21 39.00 Porthreath 23.00 17.42 ----- Culdrose 14.47 14.58 15.69 St Agnes 39.79 41.37 48.18 St Day 30.11 41.79 33.54 St Ives 23.47 33.05 28.57 St Just 43.37 42.53 44.38 Troon ----- 26.50 19.08 Wendron 23.05 24.26 23.87 AVERAGE 36.30 36.89 38.25 Gates are up this season due to the Pendeen effect. I expect the average to increase as some of the bigger clubs have quite a few home games to play plus it's getting warmer so attendances usually increase. With the average going up each season does it mean people can't afford SWPL fottball with prices of £3-4 compared with £2 in the Combo or do they find Combo football more exciting with more goals, etc. CTB
hansome dan
CTB,Hayle increased attendances, cut wagebill, improved disciplinary, supplied county youth players and putting out 4 teams still and got the county finals at strawberry fields sorry lane :rolleyes:Maybe not such a disastrous season?OK we have,nt won anything again this season(senior-wise)but then neither have a lot of other local clubs
cornishteddyboy
The thing for Hayle is it worth being in Div 1 West. Your first team averages crowds of 36.92 and your reserves average 28.44. So is it worth having a team in the SWPL with all the extra costs like travelling for an average 8 people through the gate when you could have decent local derbies in the combo. Div 1 West 36.92 x £3 = £111 JCCL 28.44 x £2 = £57 Difference of £54 each home game. An extra £810 per season. Not much is it? Is it worth it? I personally think a lot of clubs should start looking at it this way. Will they cover the increased expenses by going for promotion?
