Saltash United 4 - 2 St.Blazey SWP League

Since the formation of the South West Peninsula League in 2007, results had been evenly shared before todays game with three wins a piece and one draw. Neither side had completed the double over the other, this changed today when Saltash beat Blazey by the same scoreline they did at Blaise Park only ten days ago.

Saltash started the game brightly and got a lead after the keeper tried taking a touch or two too many close to the line to the right of the goal before losing it to the striker who put the ball into the net in the 6th minute. Blazey came more into the game and got an equaliser ten minutes later after a one on one effort was cooly finished. Both goalkeepers then denied possible goals after a striker from either side ran through towards goal and both teams had one or two efforts wide in an end to end game. Blazey had an effort tipped over the bar for a corner in the 36th minute, from this corner on their left, it fell to same Blazey player who scored the first but this time he backheeled in it from within the 6 yard box. He almost got himself a first half hat trick too when another good effort hit the bar. A couple of yellows to Saltash players added to the points of interest in this half.

In the second half, Blazey had a chance to extend the lead after the player won the ball off a midfielder before shooting wide, scored here and the game may have been over. Saltash made the game level again after a cross from the right was bundled in at the far post after a few rebounds. A backpass was picked up and scored to make it three. Saltash had a player sent off for a second yellow but it did not prevent them from getting a fourth goal through an own goal.

An enjoyable game.

Having watched the Bodmin Town v St Blazey game in the Throgmorton Cup, I have to say I didn't expect "the ashes" to beat them at Blaise Park. However, "the ashes" played "out of their skins" and came away with all three points.

Fully expecting the "backlash" from that game, it was great to see "the ashes" also gain a home win over St Blazey yesterday.
