Saltash United v QPR XI

Recommended Posts

For the second season running, faced a QPR XI. Last season it finished 3-2 to QPR after they came back from 2-0 down, Saltash could have taken the league in this fixture but a penalty claim was waved away before one was given in the first five minutes, the penalty was saved however. QPR went 1-0 up when a cross from their left was headed in at the far post. It remained 1-0 at half time but the respective keepers had to make saves between them to prevent anymore goals but the crossbar also had a say following a QPR effort.

QPR were the side creating the chances in the second half and added three more goals in the second half; a shot inside the box from a tight angle, a strike on their left and a header following a corner. Saltash did well facing a Premiership eleven gaining valuable match time whereas the QPR players will hope they have gained some brownie points from Ronnie Jepson to pass onto Neil Warnock in their quest to play for the first team come August.

I popped up East to see this last night, thought it was a good game. QPR had a strong starting 11 and it showed as they were very quick with their passing and movement.

Saltash gave an excellent account of themselves and probably could have been at least level at half time, having one penalty saved, another obvious shove by Shittu waved away and creating 3 other good chances. They should be pleased with their fitness levels and will have got lots from the game aswell.

It'll be interesting to see if they can improve their league position this season, they'll need to have a much better start than they had last season though.

Very enjoyable match and good value at £7.00. I'm sure I saw Peter Reid watching on too!
