Buckland 3 Penzance 1

Buckland used a get of jail card to win this match after Penzance took a well deserved early lead after a poor clearance from Bucks keeper Monty , but Bucklands never say die attitude saw Lynchy grab a second half super hat trick ( 1 pen ) and Magpies boss Wayne Quinn an early shower.

Penzance will feel aggrieved not to come away with a least a point after a very poor first half from Buckland ( not Championship stuff at all) but it aint over until the final whistle.

We sorely missed Boothy today and we in the stand couldn't understand why there were so many Buckland players playing out of position ? But in the Management, us Buckland followers trust!

Very disappointed in the attendance today, we really don't know what Buckland have to do to get more through the gate ?. Shame on the people of Newton Abbot.

Personally, I think Buckland Athletic do very well with their crowd attendances. The last match I watched up there was Bucks V Tavistock, pretty good crowd that day.

Perhaps clubs should put some serious thought to increasing their attendances.

Maybe so...But for a Town with a catchment population of over forty thousand its piss poor ! Especially with clubs like Taunton saying we have the best non league facilities they have come across below the conference !

Have to agree that the attendances, not only in the SWPL, but throughout are very disappointing - that particular game between Buckland and Tavistock was on a Bank Holiday Monday afternoon - and only a crowd of 162!

Not too sure what can be done though - Bodmin, twice champions had disappointing attendance figures, and Buckland are odds on favourites to win the title for the 3rd successive season.

Maybe that's what the problem is !!!!! WON it two or three times and you still play the likes of Bovey ( no disrespect) and Royal Marines.. its all a bit stale!!!!! If you went up think of the interest that may come !

What was the Att for Buckland out of intrest?

Looking forward to visiting Buckland next saturday with St Blazey. Should be quite a few of us travelling up. After watching Argyle today ill be glad to see some local football once more. I think crowds locally are very poor if im honest. St Blazeys are not very good and the average for the league is only 100. The days are gone with people sticking with their local side when their team is struggling.

Dont know what the actual attendance was, maybe it will be a higher than I thought?

But looking around the ground we all commented on what looked like a poor turnout.

Perhaps in these times of austerity two matches in a week is too much for some ?

Looking forward to St Blazey next week which ironically was our lowest league gate last season.

The attendance at Truro's away game at Boreham Wood was apparently only 290, for a league four rungs up the pyramid.

Both Saltash and Parkway have had attendances well in excess of that this sreason.

Those have all been Friday night fixtures, especially so with derby matches .

Its a hard one for the fixture secretary isnt it ? Does he allocate local derbys to Christmas and Easter or make them Friday nights to boost much needed revenue for clubs ?

I reckon a Friday nighter against Bovey Tracey would pull in a decent crowd.

Here at Parkway we have had a few 400+ attendances in the past couple of seasons , but they are always for midweek/Friday night games . This would be something of a worry if Parkway did manage to get themselves into a position for Western League football ( as is the stated aim ) as the Friday evening league games would be unlikely due to the increaded travelling from the Somerset/Wiltshire/Bristol area .

The figure for Saturday fixtures is usually around the 100 mark . I am always disappointed by this considering that Plymouth has a population of more than 150,000, and that there are 10's of 1,000's living within 15-20 minutes walk from the ground , especially as many of these consider themselves to be football fans ( albeit very much the armchair/ stood in the pub supporting the Premier league types) .

In the last couple of seasons I have introduced a mate , who has in turn introduced a mate , and they now consider themselves Parkway fans first and Premier League fans second . One of these guys came up with the point that many people still don't realise the club is there , and the standard of football played . We have came up with the idea that maybe the club could distribute posters showing fixture lists around local businesses, factories and pubs etc , maybe more people could be tempted to come along .

Excellent reply Way Of The Park and I agree wholly with what you have to say.

I wouldn't worry too much about away support if you go into the Western league as those Friday night bonanza attendances are filled mostly by locals I would say ?

But like you say, in a large city the size of Plymouth, real football fans should be up there cheering you on.

One of the troubles with Homers Heath is that it is out on a limb and not served by any public transport, making it a trek to get to especially if you want a drink.

Love the idea about advertising matches in shop windows, I was only discussing this with a fellow regular the other day.

Perhaps a free ticket to the game for advertising should be the order of the day ?

How about having ticket sales points in the city or town and offer the shop keeper a £1 for each one he/she sells ?

People that I have taken to Buckland have been very surprised at the standard of football played and I would rather watch Buckland than any Barclays premier league team and that's straight up..Not at all interested in the big time Charlies !

Mark.

I remember last season at Buckland being a very poor crowd. We were 2-0 up and lost 3-2 i believe. What i do remember from that day, was how cold it was. It was the coldest day of the football season. Bitter wasnt the word for it!!!

Yes I remember it being a real cold day, but coldest I have been too was 2009/10 away at Dartmouth !

Will be interesting to see the attendance against Ivybridge on Tues night, because Newton Spurs are also home against Galmpton in Div one East ?
