Vospers 6 Foxhole 1

Saturday 10th September 2011

In what is fast becoming an annual event at Weston Mill, beleaguered Foxhole capitulated dramatically late on to concede five in 16 crazy minutes to dash hopes of an unlikely point. However it must be said that only a combination of inspired goalkeeping and lamentable finishing prevented the home team from adding inside the opening 24 minutes eight further goals to Jasper's second minute strike as Vospers piled forward to cruelly expose the defensive deficiencies of the visitors badly missing Trudgeon and Thomas. Jasper squandered three other golden opportunities, while stand-in manager Ryan Holland saved from Hoblin, denied headers from Fort, Withey and Simmons and was happy to see an effort from the outstanding Mitchell deflected wide as the Foxes were pinned inside their half, their midfield quintet proving sadly ineffective. However, Kenny's deep cross which landed agonisingly on top of the bar with Barnes flailing appeared to galvanise them, the remainder of the half becoming a much more even affair without, regrettably, Barnes being seriously inconvenienced again by an attack populated solely by Griffin.

While Foxhole were able to exert some welcome pressure on the restart, the better chances still fell to the dangerous Jasper, who went twice on two occasions, and to Discombe, whose far post header from Hoblin's centre was safely gathered. These misses briefly appeared costly when Griffin thumped home from close range following a scramble on 66 minutes, but Foxhole were only on level terms for six minutes before Jasper bundled in his second from five yards. Vospers' third on 77 was fortunate, Scholes' mishit drive falling kindly to Jasper to complete his hat-trick, followed three minutes later by substitutute Honeywill's tap in. It was already a question of how many, the weary Foxes looking forlornly at the bench to see only the first-aid kit laden club chairman stripped and ready for action, a frankly deplorable state of affairs for this level and particularly for a team previously unbeaten. Five minutes from time Dyson's thirty-yard free kick flew in, and, three minutes later, Hazeldine's lazy backpass was seized on by the grateful Jasper to complete the scoring with a considerable degree of composure to send the trio of visiting supporters back down the A38 in a severely depressed mood.
