TORPOINT ATHLETIC 3 FALMOUTH TOWN 5

(Nigel Call)

For the second time in 5 days Falmouth hit 5 goals, but they certainly did not have it entirely there own way in this lively game in front of 102 spectators. The opening goal had an air of controversy around it when on 8 minutes muted appeals by Falmouth for a handball in the area was indicated by the assistant, for which the official awarded. Verscesi coolly opened the scoring. The lead lasted 3 minutes when on 11, Chapman in the Falmouth goal failed to deal correctly with an overhit backpass to allow Stacey to equalise. Verscesi extended his tally to 2, and give Falmouth the half time lead when on 24, he rose highest at a corner to head home.

The 2nd half started lively and Torpoint drew level on 57 when Avis Riordan set up Stevens to volley home from close range. Again, a quick reply was coming as 3 minutes later, Falmouth regained the lead when Magee shot a low drive home. Torpoints Guy Powney then regretted a yellow card he picked up on 53 minutes when on 62, a high challenge give the referee no option but to produce  a 2nd yellow and Torpoint were down to 10 men. Falmouths numerical advantage was evident on 72 when Dan Green scored number 4, and Ian Hodges was rewarded for his hard work on the night when he scored Falmouths 5th and last goal on 88 with a close range header. Torpoint got the final goal in the 2 minutes of added time when Stevens got his 2nd of the evening with a looped header. REPORTERS SUMMARY: An entertaining game providing great value for money, Falmouth edged it and showed there experience, Torpoint are rebuilding after a number of key departures, and will no doubt climb the table if this performance is anything to go by.

It was Marc Rose in the Falmouth goal-Jason Chapman on the bench

It seems Torpoint is only a sinking ship due to the loyalty of some players. One decent cup run and league finish doesn't make you a big name player!!! A big shame to see the club struggling, a club who runs things the right way behind the scenes.

It's a known fact in football these days everyone wants to be at the top.every team wants the best players and it's unfortunate if you have the club who doesn't have the money,as your team (if not loyal)will disperse rapidly. After the fight torpoint put out on Wednesday against Falmouth It shows they are rebuilding and have great team spirit still after everything that's happened and hopefully more replacements will soon be in.think Saturday will be hard for torpoint but true team spirit will help out against bodmin good luck guys
