Sorry to be pedantic Mike, but the LEAGUES top scorers are away at Porthleven tomorrow.

Still, dependent upon the weather, Newquay supporters will be at Gala Parc. Otherwise it is off to Helston v Vospers for the BIG Div 1 West match or slumming it at Bickland to see what we will be up against next season.

Helston are at home to Penryn tomorrow 'Nemesis'

DOH !

So it's hopefully Porthleven v Newquay, unless Michael Fish sticks his nose in, then it will be in order - Helston V Penryn, Falmouth v Saltash and last resort, Truro v The Mighty Saints.

Good spot Mark-Change League to Prem'Division

The West Division record is Season 2008-09 Penzance 107 goals from 32 games.

So Newquay need 30 goals from 12 games to break that record

The Peninsula record is Season 2010-11 Buckland Athletic 131 goals from 38 games

Not the free scoring game some people expected. I would say that if Falmouth take the step up, they need someone who scores goals. Drummond and hicks seemed to be shooting blanks today. Do you have any other forwards in the squad???

Ian Hodges of course who didn't play yesterday because of an injury. But interestingly enough, out of their 62 league goals scored, midfielder Mark Vercesi is top scorer on 15!

Top few are:-

Vercesi 15

Hodges 8

Drummond 7

Turner 6

Hicks 5

Green 4

Magee 4

Not just a case of Falmouth being "so poor", let's give Saltash some credit. The Ashes were up for the game far more than last Monday at home to Falmouth. Messrs Hendy and Dudley made five changes - some would say brave ones as they "dropped" the likes of seemingly regulars Gavin Coulton and skipper Toby Clark. 'Keeper Paul Hider, who did have a good game last Monday, was also out with Ben Elphick coming in. Hider is away in a few weeks. Another change was upfront with Dan Zalick coming in for Marc Thorne, who's previous performance was, I'm sorry to say, a little pedestrian! While the fifth was no John Morris - but I think, without being harsh, the best has been seen of him anyway.

Falmouth never got going - down to Saltash determined to make amends for the 5-2 defeat I would say. Perhaps a problem with the two sides meeting straight after the League Cup tie!

Aaron Cusack (back from injury) was busy in midfield, and with the other three in the middle of the park, Luke Doddridge, Ross Saint and Matt Cusack - they blended well together to cancel out anything that on the day Dan Green and Mark Vercesi could offer, leaving Matt Drummond without much service.

Town's goally Jason Chapman did well early on to thwart a couple of attacks, but Zalick reacted the quickest to Doddridge's free-kick to give the visitors the lead.

You could say that it just wasn't Falmouth's day - the long ball forward never went the way of Drummond; Hicks struggled to get going on the left, while Magee frustrated everyone by never whipping in any crosses and making the Saltash back four really work.

The second goal traced back to a Chapman miss-kick, and with only minutes remaining - there was no time to comeback!

Before that Green was subbed for Joe Lugg, and Lee Rundle replaced Steve Winnan late on, but neither on the day really made any difference. No real out and out striker alternative on the bench helped.

... and the leagues top scorers hit another 9.

I do not think Newquay will be scoring 9 against any of the Premier teams next season. However, I saw the Falmouth game on Saturday and Newquay would have nothing to fear if this was an example of the top 5. [ the pitch was not ideal after the bad weather..but then mountwise is rather bumpy as well ]
