Plymstock 0 Foxhole 1

Saturday 8th January 2012

Depleted Foxhole recorded their first away win of the season against the odds with a fantastic battling performance. While they needed to withstand huge amounts of pressure, particularly in the first half, the Foxes stood firm to restrict the home team to relatively few clear cut chances which were dealt with admirably by Ryan Holland and a back four in which the immense Adam Holland stood out like Antony Worrall-Thompson on CCTV. Burly forwards Burgoyne and Hulme posed a significant threat but were unable to make the breakthrough and paid the penalty for their profligacy when Griffin notched the winner on 62 minutes, reacting first to head past Gill after Adam Holland's fierce drive deflected off Duthie's midfriff. Griffin was soon to be cautioned for a foul on Pook, but the marine's aggression was to continue to bother the Plymstock rearguard in counter-attacks that may well have made the points safe despite the home team enjoying the majority of possession. The closest the visitors came to doubling their lead came at the death whenTalbot raced down the right before unselfishly squaring to Griffin whose drive from close range was scrambled away.
