Foxhole 0 Vospers 4

Saturday 11th February 2012

Thoroughly outclassed and going down with barely a whimper, Foxhole were no match for their high-riding opponents who never had to get out of second gear. Arguably the points were effectively sealed once outside-right Hoblin had played a one-two with Fort before smashing the ball high into the net inside eight minutes such was the visitors' dominance from the outset, and they almost doubled their lead moments later when Mitchell seized on Faircloth's misplaced pass but failed to beat Holland from twenty yards.

The Foxes were struggling to contain the lively Devonian attack despite lining up with five defenders, one of whom Morrison was to waste their sole chance of the half when firing wide the isolated Griffin's deflected cross. Otherwise Vospers were always well on top, albeit without generating a huge number of clearcut opportunities, and they notched their second just after the half hour. Gotthardt's promising run down the right was stopped by Beynon, whose early ball found Jasper who cut in from the byline to sidefoot home at the near post. Six minutes prior to the break, Jasper capitalised on Ryan Holland's poor clearance to shoot into an empty net to leave the home team an insuperable mountain to climb.

Last week's hero Turton was finally summoned from the bench at half time to replace the ineffective Coates prompting a change to 4-4-2. The early signs were encouraging as Turton was heavily involved in the creation of a couple of golden chances, both of which were squandered by the sadly out of touch Griffin, now without a goal in his last three appearances. On the plus side Griffin was able to complete his second consecutive match without a whiff of a caution, undoubtedly helped by the excellent refereeing of Mr Bromley who, on this showing, will be welcome back to Goverseth any time.

Regrettably that was at good as it got as Vospers regained the initiative. Ryan Holland did well to field substitute Honeywill's header and to twice deny Jasper, who also blazed wide at the near post following more good work from Fort, while only Adam Holland's fine block thwarted Hoblin as Foxhole somehow managed to restrict the damage until two minutes from time when Jasper completed his hat-trick from close range after the keeper had parried Honeywill's initial attempt. By then the formation had changed yet again, this time to 3-4-3 to allow Talbot a belated taste of the action and to hand a debut to sixteen year old Hugh.

Foxhole (5-4-1): Ryan Holland; Jaydon Gotthardt, Ben Thomas, Oliver Morrison, Adam Holland, Richard Faircloth (sub. Nathan Hugh); Connor Mewton (sub. Aaron Talbot), Jamie Coates (sub. Ross Turton), Ben Spaul, Pete May; Richard Griffin.

Vospers (4-4-2): Andy Barnes; Ashley O'Rourke (sub. Jason King), Jason Beynon, Nick Souness, James Simmons; James Hoblin, Dan Discombe, Martin Mitchell (sub. Dave Parke), John Scholes; Stuart Fort (sub. Jamie Honeywill), Joe Jasper.

Referee: Mr Adam Bromley (Plymouth).
