Truro 2 Foxhole 1

Saturday 25th February 2012

Foxhole continued their run of disappointing performances by slumping to yet another defeat at the hands of a fairly mediocre Truro outfit who crucially possessed speed and mobility in attacking areas that the Foxes were again simply unable to match. Goalkeeper turned centre-forward Scott Palmer caused all sorts of problems from the off with his pace and, soon after missing the first chance by flicking wide a fine left wing centre by the impressive Smith, set up Moth to blast home from twelve yards after seventeen minutes.

Palmer's challenge on Adam Holland may easily have been deemed illegal on another day but the home team's advantage was justified such was their early dominance. It was something of a surprise, therefore, when Trudgian levelled from close range within eight minutes by volleying Spaul's cross past the hitherto redundant Payne. However, Truro soon regained their composure and almost restored their lead through Palmer's shot from six yards which Ryan Holland did well to tip over while Johnston's attempt from distance was deflected wide to the relief of the visitors whose midfield quintet were seldom able to offer more than token support to the isolated Trudgian.

That Foxhole improved after the break is hardly a ringing endorsement. Although Palmer's impact was to significantly decrease it barely mattered as a second equaliser to Vanes' scuffed effort on fifty-six from Hall's deep cross from the right never appeared over likely to occur once Mewton had squandered the third of his trio of opportunities. The impressive Spaul had created two of them with incisive passes inside replacement left-back Williams only for Payne to beat away the drives to the near post, before the blond midfielder betrayed the frustration felt by many of us watching through gritted teeth by being cautioned for dissent. Gotthardt saw a daisycutter from twenty-five yards flash wide following a good run and Trudgian was unfortunate to see a shot on the turn cannon off a defender to safety but it was pretty grim fare allowing Truro to claim their first win in four.

Foxhole (4-5-1): Ryan Holland; Richard Faircloth (sub. Jacob Rowe), Ben Thomas, Joe Stone, Adam Holland; Connor Mewton, Jaydon Gotthardt, Ryan Stephen, Ben Spaul, Pete May (sub. Ross Turton); Adam Trudgian.

Truro (4-3-3): Luke Payne; Sean Johnstone, Matt Larcombe (sub. Adam Williams), Jason Rogers, Andy van Evelingen; Dale Band, Mike Smith, Mike Vanes; Stuart Maxwell (sub. Calvon Hall), Scott Palmer, Ryan Moth (sub. Andy Bowker).

Referee: Mr Barry Jackson.
