More trouble for parkway??

Recommended Posts

Just read in paper main sponsor for parkway is stepping down due to prioritising his business GD and Son being the main source of income for the club how will this affect the club?.It's a big Shame after everything parkway went through this season and still finished in the top 6 and hope it doesn't give a Rocky season next season.Wish Gary and parkway the best for the future

There's a rocky patch for every club. No club can rely on one main source of income, that's the reason for many downfalls. Having one financial backer is great, having him/her there every step of the way is fantastic. Until one day he/she decides enough is enough and withdraws their funding.

A large number of Clubs will be struggling next season, not just Parkway. Falmouth are struggling, Penryn have lost £10,000 according to an earlier thread. Tavistock reduced there budget, St Blazey have also struggled this season.

Just remember it is affecting every football in the Country, money is very tight and it is going to get worse before it gets better.

Gary Doel deserves a massive thankyou from all concerned at Plymouth Parkway for everthing he has done for the club. The club is growing every season, maybe Gary feels that a fresh input is now required. He will be sorely missed. Both Argyle and Albion have been through it this season so it is nothing new to the area Lets hope the committee at Parkway have a plan or something in place. They are the 2nd biggest football club in the city and lets just hope they can continue to move forward. Maybe there is a business man out there who can see the potential of the club and fancies the chance of pushing a growing club forward. After all the turmoil they have been through this season they certainly deserve a bit of luck.

That is what Parkway do not need..If you get in bed with the Devil don't complain when he wants to shaft you.

What Parkway need is lots of minor sponsors who collectively form a decent pot, if one decides to pull out then its a lot easier to cope with or replace than a single benefactor suddenly pulling the plug.

Agree with this . Non League football in the South West and the whole country is littered with examples of sugar daddies coming in with lots of cash , but also short attention spans and ulterior motives , who end up wrecking clubs .

What Gary Doel has done for Parkway has been magnificent , but the club now has to learn to stand on its own feet and not rely on one benefactor . Even if that means a backward step for a season or two .Buckland is a superb example in this respect of developing superb off the field revenue streams and incomes ,but this takes a lot of time and a lot of money .

I am constantly thinking of how much difference an extra 100 through the gates each week would make at Parkway ,this is surely achievable in a city of around 200,000 people and 10's of 1000's living within walking distance . How many "passionate football fans" will pack into pubs to watch Premier League matches this afternoon , but would never dream of watching a real game just down the road ? When does the term "use it or lose it " become applicable in local football ? Is it viable for semi-professional clubs to carry on running for the benefit of a hand full of supporters and as a large contributor to the Saturday night drinking fund for a group of players ?

I really do fear that we are reaching some sort of tipping point in local football . A lot of clubs and players need to get real pretty quickly .

Thoughts agreed with karen and mark. You cannot solely rely on one person. You need to have lots of sponsors to keep your funds healthy. Plymouth has a massive amount of businesses so there is no reason why parkway cant continue the way they are. I often feel that clubs go for the single person/business backing them as they dont have to spend hours looking for other sponsors. Once they have one big one they feel they can stop. Then this happens and everyone panics

As previously mentioned, it takes a lot of time and effort for someone to go around and ask businesses to jump on board. It's not a simple case of sitting back and hoping clubs will come to you. Business are willing to spend money to make money, selling your football club to them is a top priority. Hopefully Parkway will get at least an extra 100 people on PER GAME next season, I have plans!
