Nemesis
Perhaps now that we no longer have summers as such, we should move to March-October football seasons. The weather will be the same as the winters we used to have, but it will give holidaymakers something to do on a wet Wednesday night in July. Nemesis
Lets narrow it down to SWPL and above football then. In the 'summer months' of May-July, it is possible to kick off at 7.00pm and not have to use floodlights, you can have games on Tues & Fri evenings thus not interfering with the bat & ball brigade. I would suggest, that most players of SWPL football do not play regular cricket in any event. Junior Football leagues can continue in Winter, giving some clubs the chance of an all year round interest and income.
Can't keep up?!
Nemesis you are on to something here. March to October season makes a lot of sense, would boost crowds as more evening game and boost the coffers. Would also allow those who play to go and watch likes of Truro and Argyle on a Saturday. Will only work for professional footballers..... When are families supposed to go on holiday, in the winter months? Also kids will be back at school so that can't happen.... bushy12
So when the season kicks off in March, are teams still finishing the previous season? Or are they finishing the season and then having 8 months pre season training?

As the professional clubs (or the majority of them) have decent pitches, they do not suffer from postponements due to the weather, and so their season will stay the same. Our season will also stay the same as there are teams at this level who enter the FA Cup, and will want to get as far as they can, and so will wish to maintain the status quo and thus raise as much money as they can. Those teams which do not enter the FA Cup may wish to change, but that wish will not be granted.
