BOVEY TRACEY MADE IT 4 games unbeaten with a lucky escape after this must win game against Penzance AFC at Penlee Park. Bovey had been 2 goals ahead at the start of the second half but were pegged back from two goals from Callum George, but won the game in the last 5 minutes from a penalty converted by new signing Jamie Micklewright, who scored 2 on his Bovey debut.

The game started brightest for Bovey Tracey as good skill from Jared Lewington, sent in Micklewright through the Penzance defence and he slotted the ball past Penzance 'keeper Paul Williams after taking it around the onrushing keeper.

Manager Ryan German looked happy after the goal went in, but saw hi Bovey side relax too much early in the game and Penzance had chances themselves after winning silly free kicks beign conceded from rash challenges from several of the Bovey side.

Penzance could of levelled the scores after 15 minutes but striker Callum George stuck the ball wide of the goal after cutting inside defender Ed Plackett.

Bovey began playing dangerous inside their own half, trying to keep possession but Penzance were pressing hard, forcing Bovey to play back to goalkeeper Aaren Ibbotson, but the new 'keeper's clearances under pressure were safe from any attack from Penzance.

Penzance were again with George and again his shot was not on target and wide. Bovey were also caught offside from the next ball in for Micklewright, just offside from assistant referee Alan Howell's flag.

Bovey were awarded the first corner of the game midway into the first half after good work from Hayden Roe to beat the defender and force a good defensive block from Penzance defender Dean Mooney.

Bovey were then awarded a free kick after 30 minutes when Cliff Walters looked to have slipped from the tricky pitch conditions but the referee thought otherwise. From the free kick, Dan Taylor's delivery found Roe who could only head the ball over.

Penzance and Bovey battled hard to keep possession and not lose possession for the final 5 minutes but both teams finished the half with no chances on target, Bovey 1-0 up.

The second half started similar to the first 5 minutes, Bovey Tracey hitting Penzance on the break again for Micklewright but goalkeeper Williams equal to the shot down low.

But on 52 minutes Bovey increased their lead after Hayden Roe's powerful header in the top corner from Lewington's delivery. Lewington keeping the ball well from half way but was clipped on the edge of the box and his near post delivery finding Roe clear on goal, 2-0.

Bovey began defending nervously in the 62nd minute and Penzance reduced the deficit, when Callum George shot home from 12 yards and turning well and hitting the ball in the bottom corner after pressure from Bovey defender Alex Sanderson. Goalkeeper Aaren Ibbotson received a yellow for keeping hold of the ball from Penzance trying to start the game quickly.

Penzances' confidence grew more after their goal which seemed to halt Bovey's tempo. But Penzance received the first booking of the game when Ryan Andrew was booked for a late challenge on Roe. Dan Taylor again the provider which Roe latched onto a volley from 13 yards out but instead of hitting the target, the ball nearlly found the corner flag.

Both sides made a change with 2 minutes to go, Penzance bringing Jordan Anderson on for Ryan Williams and Bovey changing Hayden Roe for Severiano Catindig-Stagg.

Penzance received another booking from referee Stevens when Liam Andrew received a caution for a foul on Taylor. Taylor took the free kick again, this time Williams gathering.

Bovey still wanted to extend the lead further and made another change on 75 minutes bringing on a striker for a midfielder, Max Reed on for Cliff Walters.

But Penzance found themselves level on 79 minutes when George scored his second of the game. After a mix up in the penalty area from a Penzance corner, the ball fell kindly for George who smashed the ball home which really brought a cheer from the Magpies crowd, 2-2 and still 10 minutes to go.

Bovey really felt frustrated with themselves after conceding and really looked weary in defence for the final part of the game. But Penzance's defence were just as nervous as with 5 minutes to go, Penzance defender Dean Mooney, clipped the heels of Lewington and the assistant raised his flag for a penalty. There was no reaction from the Penzance bench, who clearly felt angry at the late challenge. Striker Jamie Micklewright stepped up cooly and sent Williams the wrong way, and Bovey played out the final 4 minutes keeping the ball in the Penzance corner, before Stevens blew his whistle and Bovey took all 3 points.

After the game both Managers gave their views, Penzance AFC Manager John Dent commented;

"I'm gutted that we lost the game in the way we did, but we battled hard and showed good character, because our side is very young. We did however, concede our goals from silly mistakes."

Bovey Tracey Manager Ryan German commented; "I'm delighted to have won the game and got the 3 points. It was a long journey to make and we had prepared well before the game. We started both of the halfs very well and then we seemed to have lost our compose in the final 3rd and defensive errors cost us the 2 goals, but we worked really well after 2-2 to get the penalty and win the game 3-2."
