Result and Match Report from Mill Marsh Park: Bovey Tracey 3-0 Plymouth Parkway

Recommended Posts

THE PRE-MATCH PREVIEW headline lived up to it's title, as Bovey Tracey played some of their best football this season, winning 3-0 at home to Plymouth Parkway and ensured Parkway have a mountain to climb if they want to take the Premier title away from Bodmin Town.

Tracey's strikeforce put in the match winning performances and secured all three points for the Moorlanders. Hayden Roe once again scored a brace in a single game, one of which is contender for goal of the season and new signing Dale O'Donaghue secured all 3 points as early as the 55th minute.

Plymouth Parkway Manager Wayne Hillson will not be happy with his team's performance after several mistakes cost his side the points, after Bovey took the lead in the 21st minute from the penalty spot after Hayden Roe's hold up play kept the ball inside the box and forced Parkway full-back Lee Bevan to stick a leg out and catch Roe. Roe stepped up himself and dispatched the penalty the wrong side of Parkway 'keeper Ben Elphick to take the lead.

Despite taking the lead half-way through the first half, Parkway looked the likeliest of the two sides to score first, wasting several chances in one on one situations. John Heveran, normally a defender, playing up front setting up fellow striker Dan Griffiths, who placed a half volley wide of Tom Brooks' goal, and another chance from 10 yards which he mis-kicked and Brooks was able to gather.

Lee Bevan was the first player booked by referee Lee Roberts' after his fourth challenge issued the defender his warning to keep clean for the remainder of the game. Despite quiet play from both sides for the last 10 minutes of the game, the referee called orders for half-time, where the Bovey players were praised for their excellent work-rate and urgency to break down Parkway on their first touch to win back possession, which Parkway didn't have at all.

In the second half, Bovey Tracey were not holding back from trying to score a second and the game was over in a 2 minute spell in the first 10 minutes of the restart. In the 54th minute Hayden Roe scored his second of the game and the best seen for a long time, lobbing Elphick on the half volley from 25 yards. Jared Lewington failed to keep control of the ball on the near touchline and gave Parkway a chance from half way with a thrown in. But Parkway lost the ball early and ball was switched from Bovey's Lewis Plackett towards Roe, whose hold up play again was excellent, and on the turn unleashed a half volley which always looked going in when it left his foot, Elphick unlucky not to back pedal quick enough.

A minute later it was 3-0, Parkway still shocked from the second goal ,switched off and allowed Plackett again to run the midfield for the game and his pass found Cliff Walters out wide on the right side of midfield and his through ball fell kindly to O'Donaghue, who slid the ball under the onrushing Elphick for the final goal and secured all three points.

Parkway tried to play some good football to create chances on a comeback, and made some attacking changes to add more firepower, but chances were not being taken and all shots were forced from long range which were blasted over the goal and it looked as though Parkway had lost all chance of at least a draw as referee Lee Roberts blew for full-time, three minutes after injury to the delight of all spectators at Bovey Tracey, whose committee will surely be ecstatic at this massive victory, probably the best this season.

Deep after the game, Hillson was not happy with his side, which was clearly felt after leaving the changing rooms at the end of the game but Parkway will look to secure second place.

I was not expecting that score. Thought the Parkway line up was a bit strange when I saw John Heveran as centre forward and a perfectly fit striker on the bench ? Not sure why you would take probably the best centre back in the league and put him up front , perhaps the score reflects that.

Bovey were sharper , better organised and right in the Parkways face. That was a poor performance by Parkway last night and Bovey fully deserved the points.

One strange thing , was when the Parkway skipper asked the ref if he could leave the field of play to have a dump...... lol.

Now nick named " Shitter Stringer "................ lmao. :yahoo:

In all fairness Stringer was probably the only Parkway player who stood up all game an was counted.

The pasty was good ( hot ) but good , the company was good , the Bovey performance was good and the result was bad.

Well done Bovey , possibly the best team performance I have seen this season. ( very good report by Bovey 1 also ).
