The Villains
Newquay 3 - 4 Ivybridge Great comeback from Ivybridge after being 2 down after only 8 mins and then taking a 3 - 2 lead into half time. Newquay made it all square, only for Joe Truelove to score the winning goal late on. Sounds like a great all round team performance..... Well done to Ivybridge
Owngoalcornwall
Torpoint 0-0 Godolphin. Not a boring 0-0 by any means. Torpoint unlucky not to take 3 points having hit the bar twice and one cleared off the line. G seemed to have a few tired legs after three tough fixtures in 8 days. 7 points from 9 and still havent conceded a goal. Not a bad start to life in the prem. Henning Berg
Parkway 2 - 1 Saltash Pretty even game with Parkway running out the winners near the end with a nice header from a out-swinging corner. Both teams guilty of being quite sloppy at times but Parkway probably deserved the win overall. Thought Hughes was a handful up front for Saltash and caused parkways defence problems all day and Cusack looked tidy in the middle. Didn't have enough of an cutting edge to get through parkway though. Not sure about this new 'Fyneboy', look out of his depth on occasions with some lazy touches but give him credit of scoring a hat-trick already this season. Enjoyed the game on the whole with Saltash nearly grabbing and equaliser at the end but couldn't force it home at the scramble. Parkway were ok, far from what I would have expected from them but it is start of the season. Very strong squad and the ground looked excellent by the way, nice clubhouse inside the fence and pitch looked superb. Darin Morse
Porthleven 4 Foxhole 0 Saturday 17th August 2013 The match between two youthful teams resulted in a victory for the home team that was even more comfortable than the scoreline suggests. Foxhole somehow held out until the 22nd minute when Avery upended Jordan Annear, whose brother Tom slotted home the spot-kick. The Foxes rarely threatened against slicker and stronger opponents, who doubled their lead on 38 minutes when Best's inviting centre was volleyed home by Jordan Annear. Any hopes of a rousing fight-back evaporated within 12 minutes of the restart. On 55 minutes, impressive stopper Tarrant bundled home from close-range Hawkins' corner and, two minutes later, Williams' evaded some fairly weak challenges before finding the bottom corner from 15 yards. Fortunately for the beleaguered visitors Porthleven took their foot off the pedal but Dennis Annear can surely seldom have had an easier match between the sticks. Foxhole (4-4-2): Carl Hadrill; Richard Faircloth (sub. Alex Morecroft), James Avery, Adam Peters, Joe Stone; Seth Couch, Zac Smith-Brokenshire (sub. Scott Laughton), Adam Rosevear, Martin Duff; Courtney Rowe (sub. Mark Williams), Josh Higman. Unused: Ryan Wilkins, Keegan Lloyd. Porthleven (4-4-2): Dennis Annear; Chris Wormington, Jowan Shainberg, Tom Annear, Dan Tarrant; Jordan Annear (sub. Robbie Robinson), Liam Hunter (sub. Matt Dawson), Jed McCardle, Matt Best; Thomas Hawkins (sub. Sam Kay), Fred Williams. Unused: Chris Bartlett. Referee: Mr Neil Rudkin (Hayle). CoachKT
Anyone know how coach kt did in his first game? Results up above suggest Holsworthy lost 6-0 at home to Dobwalls, so I guess the answer is not particularly well! everyone tipping dobwalls for bottom three looks like that aint happening or were holsworthy that poor over to you tizz No excuses Mark, yesterday we were awful!! Yes, we may have had 5 players missing which for so early in the season is a bad sign but I would have expected the older and more experienced players in the team yesterday to stand up and pull the younger ones through. So when everyone collectively and individually has an off day (and I mean an off day!!) it can only lead to disaster and the result speaks for itself. To be honest, although clearly better than us on the day, Dobwalls aren't that good, but we made them look like Champions. On a slippy pitch both teams started a bit hesitantly and there was no indication of the landslide to come until Joe Knight unleasehed a 30yd drive against the post after about 15 mins. We didn't learn our lesson as five minutes later Jack Barnett picked the ball up midway inside our half and carried it 15 / 20 yards unchallenged before whipping a dipping shot which gathered pace off the slippery surface and nestled in the far corner past an outstretched Jack Dixon. Five minutes later again and it was 2-0 as Jack Dixon initially saved a Joe Knight free kick but the ball squirmed free and onto the post for Martin Hake to force home the rebound. It was 3-0 on the half hour when Joe Knight this time rifled an unstoppable free kick from 20 yards high into the roof of the net, that would have taken Jack's arm off had he got near it!! Then on the stroke of half time Dicko saved at full length from Harry Hook, but again Martin hake was on hand to slot home the loose ball. All we could muster was a couple of half chances comfortably saved by Gilbert in the Dobwalls goal. To be fair we came out and gave it a go after the break with Roger Bonaparte going close with a header and Gilbert making a fine save from a Dean Chidley free kick, before Martin Hake completed his hat trick from the penalty spot after Ed Hillier was adjudged to have handled. To add insult to injury, Hillier was given a straight red by the referee for dissent following the penalty decision. Joe Knight completed the scoring on 70 minutes with a carbon copy of the 2nd and 3rd goals and in the closing stages Dean Chidley had two more free kicks well saved by Gilbert and Mike Cornew saw his header come back off the crossbar to deny us even a consolation goal. All in all it wasn't so much the scoreline as the manner of the defeat that was so disappointing and on the basis of yesterday there is still an awful lot of work to be done to improve the squad otherwise it's going to be another long hard season at Upcott Field. And yet, despite the defeat, it was good to be involved in the SWPL (as a manager / coach) for the first time and although, as stated above, I'm anticipating a long hard season, I'm up for the challenge.....Let's hope the players feel the same!! CoachKT
Oooooo someone's touchy today Far from it Harry.... As a manager the results (and performances) stay with you longer than the players, but you have to learn to get up dust yourself down and prepare for the next one (game that is, not a 6-0 hammering!!). As manager of Bere Alston we had at least one hammering a season....Remember getting beat 7-1 at Saltash, 7-1 at Bude and 6-0 at Torpoint but you just have to get on with it and think that you are one game closer to the next win!! We were always going to need a set piece winner as , just as against Blazey on Tuesday night , we seemed to be more ponderous and lacking in ideas as the game went on and spurned the decent chances we did make . The system we are playing seems to rely very heavily on the wing backs getting forward .With Rundle having to be replaced after injury and Paul Heveran being shifted into an unfamiliar left flank role to replace him , we seemed to lack penetration . 3 games played , 3 won is pretty good though , especially when you consider that we haven't put together a consistent 90 minutes yet . I thought the pitch looked fantastic,The groundsman must have put a lot of hard work in to get it like that , Its grass...how hard can it be ![/ Why don't you spend the day with the groundsman and you'll be surprised hard it can be...... Or are you another talker and not a doer... I would also guess it's not his full time job either! Give him some credit!

cornishteddyboy
17th August 2013 Penzance 6-4 Perranporth After the tough season Penzance had last year it was great to see them kick off this term with a victory against fancied Perranporth. To go down to an early goal then bounce back to take a commanding lead by half time proved there is a lot of fight in the side. Missing five players through injury, holidays and suspensions, The Magpies conceded a couple midway through the second half which caused them a few minutes of jitters, but scored another only to concede the fourth in injury time. Early pressure comes from Perranporth but they don't get any clear chances. After five minutes the action is centred around Perrans area with the best chance for Penzance following a break on their left followed by a cross and shot which is tipped over the bar. From a throw on the right, the ball is flicked on for a turn and volley that skims the top of the bar. Perran relieve the pressure and break winning a free kick on their right level with the 18yd box. The ball is swept in low for Josh Burton to volley in at the bottom of the near post. I was told after the match by the Perran manager that it was luck he connected with the ball, not a training ground move! 0-1 after 12mins. From their kick-off Penzance are awarded a free kick in roughly the same position, wide and level with the box. The ball is knocked to the back post, where poor defending allows Dean Mooney to rise and head the ball. It seems to hit someone, bounces up and under the bar to go in. 1-1 with a quarter of an hour gone. Two minutes later and Penzance get their noses in front. From the kick off Perran lose the ball. A quick, short through ball to Callum George sees him side-step his defender and place the ball under the advancing keeper. into the net from 15yds out. High balls into the box seem to be causing Perran a lot of trouble and Perran keeper, Andy Butcher has to be on the ball to block a back post free header. A minute before the half-hour Lewis Caspell, a thorn in the Perran side all game, gets the ball on the left. He jinks past half the side (4 defenders) before squaring the ball to Shane Richards to nod the ball home from 6yds. 3-1 becomes 4-1 in the 33rd min when the Magpies win a free-kick on their right. The ball is knocked high into the box for Chris Bullock to flick a header past the beleaguered defenders. H-T Three minutes into the second half Bullock gets the goal of the game for being so unexpected. The ball is knocked out wide for Bullock to chase. He takes to the goal line and cuts in towards goal. Everyone is expecting a cross or low shot but he fools everyone and volleys the ball upwards and it going in under the bar at the back post. Clever. Perran break with a long ball forward, squaring the ball for a volley that keeper Paul Williams palms away for a corner. From the set-piece the ball is knocked over, a shot is blocked but rebounds to Bryan Hawke who volleys in from 10yds to make it 5-2 after 56mins. Three minutes later Perranporth pull another one back following another long squared ball to Adam Barnicoat who lets fly from 20yds giving the keeper no chance. You can see the nerves showing in the Magpies defence but things calm down and they gain a three goal cushion a couple of minutes later. A free-kick out left near the flag is knocked in to Gary Bell who heads in through the keeper's outstretched arms. That problem of not defending high balls into the box costing Perran dear. Perran have one disallowed for handball following a corner before they get their 4th a minute into injury time. Another free-kick on the half-way line is booted in to the back post for Shaun Mulvenna to head in. An even game with Penzance the better for finishing their chances. As said earlier Perran's main undoing was being unable to deal with balls into the box. Corners 8-7 Fouls conceded 11-13 Attendance
Ian Pethick
Going over to Saltash Wednesday v Elburton Villa, see if the Ashes can bounce back and how the new look Villa side get on. Parkway 2 ( Colwell , M.Landricombe) Saltash United 1 ( Hughes) HT 1-1 Pretty fair summary of the game . The way Parkway started I thought we would blow Saltash away , we didn't build on that though and it's all credit to Saltash that they equalised and saw out the first half looking stronger . The Parkway way groundsman spent pretty much all summer working on that pitch , and he will spend most of his evenings and weekends during the season maintaining it . truthbetold
Yes Shane Richards was playing for penzance. Hoping this wont be the start of the journey men flocking to penzance? But after watching the game thought he played well along with the other striker and the 2 wingers. Penzance looked very good going forward not so good defensively. Was a entertaining match and will watch the rivals mousehole this weekend to see how they are shaping up
Yeo's
Not a great result for the G after being the better side again for long periods of the game, Phil Lowrey was outstanding again, just one of those days. Looking forward to the visit of Blazey on saturday and getting back to our winning ways....great start lads keep it up!
Yeo's
Oddball all I can think is you could not of been at this game. Derek (there gaffer) came up to me & said they got away with a point & were very pleased to of got anything. Phil Lowry is a top striker but was kept quiet after a lively first 10 minutes. I'm a big believer in Credit where Credits due & the G are a good side & will have a good campaign but they were very very lucky to go home with a point & there players & coaching staff were the 1st to admit that. As for Us we are very disappointed & feel its 2 pts dropped.
ODDBALL
Yeo's imo both teams had great chances to snatch all 3 points and I'm sure the goalposts will need touching up with white paint, but ya has to take ya chances. Your absolutely right credit where credits due....well done the G...7 points from
