Dave Deacon
1988: Leigh Cooper's testimonial - Argyle 1 (Tynan) Coventry City 2. Cooper made his first team debut in 1979, aged 18, and became one of the youngest captains in league football when he was just 22 (he led the side in the FA Cup semi-final in 1984). A few months after his testimonial game, he broke his leg and only played twice more for the club. 375 appearances for Argyle, yet his career was effectively over at just 27. Had he not suffered such a bad injury, he might have threatened Kevin Hodges' all-time appearance record.
