St Blazey have managed to sign an emergency goalkeeperlb_icon1.png – only six hours before tonight’s Cornwall Senior Cup semi-final against hot rivals St Austell at Newquay’s Mount Wise (7.30 kick-off).

General admission will be £4 with £3 for concessions. Newquay's clubhouse will be open from around 6.30pm. Refreshments will be available from the canteen at the ground. There will be a 50/50 draw &, I believe, the Cornwall FA have put together a match programme.

As a neutral St Blazey were poor from the off and it looked like it was going to be a romping, but they slowly got back into it but never really troubled the St Austell goalkeeper. St Austell looked comfortable and played better football. Were blazey missing players? Bench looked scarce and a centre half was brought on when they were 3-0 down, doesn't look promising.

3v1 dosnt sound to bad but it was very one sided from the start. St Blazey missing one of their best players, the goalkeeper and signed a young lad from Buckland just hours before kick off. He did very well. Unfortunately the first goal was very sof from a corner.St Austell looked like they were going to walk through at ease but St Blazey held on and got into the game and knocked the ball round well but created nothing. The killer blow was a soft free kick given on the right side of the box and Watts freekick was just to good. 2nd half was just a question of how many and St Austell made it 3v0 with about 20 minutes to play. Coombes added a consolation and Swain could have nicked a second with the final kick but it was all to late. St Blazey couldnt keep the ball and never used the width at all. St Austell clearly arnt brilliant judging by their league position but we made them look brilliant tonight. Right result.

Well done to Newquays groundsman. Pitch and surrounds looked very smart. Floodlights look much better.

Cornwall F.A. why on earth do they produce such a crap program for such a big game. 1 piece of paper folded in half with the team sheets on. Surly somebody can give a bit more effort to it. Or ask the host club to produce one. In years to come its nothing to look back on.

Anyway, plus side, Argyle won so were looking good for the play offs. Scunthorpe and Chesterfield at home next week. Big games.

Yes Paul you are right. I attended local derbies in the 60s when some of the matches must have had about 1000 attending. The 1964 Senior Cup Final at Truro was packed with at least 2000+. Unfortunately due to the live multi-sports coverage on tv crowds at this level are shrinking. If Bayern V Arsenal wasn't live on tv on Tuesday night, I would imagine there would have been more at Newquay.

However the pleasure at this level you are to become involved with the club and know the players. A number of St Austell players thanked me for travelling down to support them. The other positive at this level is the friendly banter between fans and that's what it should be all about and our level is an example to the top of the game.

Why do they need to be Cornish?[/quote

No one is saying they NEED to be Cornish Paul. The whole debate of playing local players is quite possibly the most harped on about subject on here. Maybe ....how many players reside in Cornwall ? would have been a more appropriate question.

Chesterfield ....Im nor sure that the reserves travel up to Ivybridge to train for Bobby to have a look at any of them

So we have gone from St Blazey v St Austell to how many 'local' players each club has ?

OK, define 'local' ? Does a player have to be born and bred Cornish with a bloodline back to a minimum of Great-Great-Great Grandparents, or just live here ? How far from your clubs ground should players live ? Does working 'local' qualify ?

No where else in the Country has this Xenophobic qualification of who should or should not play for a club. Whilst Heaney was throwing everyone elses money around at Truro City and they were winning everything, there were not too many bemoaning the fact that Treliske did not appear too often on players birth certificates. So is it ok to crave success and forget principals, or are we to settle back and watch locals lads from a small village get beat by local lads from a larger town every week.

Importing players from Plymouth is nothing new, it has been going on a for 100 years, there were complaints then too as the 'local' papers letters pages of the day prove. Truro City were importing players from London when they were able to, but that does not seem to matter as much as having a player from a mile over the Tamar.

Anyway, back to St Blazey v St Austell, the good lady Wife said it was very one sided, but neither side were that impressive. Nice to hear that the 50/50 was well supported, the bar and tea-hut were busy, Newquay AFC look forward to hosting another Semi-Final in a few weeks when our adopted second Club Mousehole (The Mighty Seagulls), take on those imported to play for Bodmin or those who inhabit the 'villages' around St Austell in the Throgmorten Cup.

Cornish, Devonshire or illegal immigrants....either way Leeds United, your Bodmin took a helluva beating by the new boys to the Prem Div today.

Your supposedly right to brag as Cornwall's best appear to be deserting you fast it seems, perhaps its time to stop carrying the Bodmin water bottles as the fall guy who comes on here and shames so many others and take some shame of your own today. Especially as BODMIN obviously pay out far more than little old Godolphin do. Now the £'s spent debate is not one you have a leg to stand on like you so often claim hey.

Your beloved Bodmin are not what you once believed they were.

Your first season in the top league and to be fair so far have had a good season, but, until you achieved what Bodmin have, you should let your football do the talking, you'll find that other people will respect you more for that than the way your going about it now. One good season doesn't put you in the same bracket as Bodmin.

Not the "little old Godolphin" debate again.....
