AFC Bodmin 0 LC Phoenix 3

Launceston College Phoenix picked up a relatively easy three points away to promotion rivals Bodmin. Ryan Julian opened the Phoenix account with a superb chip from distance. Darren Webber slotted clinically from close range after Phoenix pressure led to a Bodmin defensive error and in the final minutes of the game Luke Williams struck a thunderous free kick from 25 yards out. After last weeks scrappy win at Boscastle, the decent pitch and excellent refereeing today allowed Phoenix to show their better footballing qualities.

Good luck to Bodmin, who seem a decent bunch of players.

The White Hart Hotel Man of the Match award: Adam Daw; an assured performance at the heart of the Phoenix defence.

Duchy 1

Grampound 5-1 Looe Town

Grampound were marginally the better team for most of the first half but Looe took the lead just before the break with a good finish from Sykes.

Grampound were disappointed to turn around behind but started the second half well when Hayden Boxall beat a defender a hit a great shot into the roof of the net. Two good goals each from Pete Thomas and Lee Budge gave Grampound a comfortable win in the end.

St Minver 4-1 Premier 6

Went one nil down after a freak own goal, despite some early Minver pressure. Despite having better possession didn't really create a clear cut opening. The score remained so until half time.

Second half Dayll Bessley hit a 25yd screamer off the post shortly followed by a Steve Wootton strike. John May and Jason Northcott completed the scoring. Fantastic result and we played some really good stuff to boot.

Duchy 5

St Newlyn East res 3 St Teath 2. An incredibly close game which was well reffed. Alex Rice with a hat trick for Newlyn.

very close game fair play to st newlyn east for there victory but felt the ref today was a little whistle happy at times for both teams and didn't allow the game to flow, there wasn't a bad tackle all day and some of the shoulder to shoulders and good solid tackling was pulled up as a soft free kick but that was the same for both teams really ! Feel st teath after recent form would have expected to get all three points but didn't do enough on the day to deserve anything

North petherwin res 5-1 Gorron

Petherwin scorers - josh Saunders x2, Kevin Hoare, Tom boundy, Paul penny

Gorron - joe Lewis

Good but scrappy match up Gorron could only raise 11 players. The game played in the right spirit ref didn't have any big calls to make.

Good luck to Gorron for the rest of the season

Torpoint Athletic 2 – 0 St Newlyn East

A solid win from a young Torpoint side in only their 2nd home game of the season.

St Newlyn edged the first half in terms of pressure and possession but failed to convert their chances. They probed throughout but Torpoint dug in. A fizzed ball across the box was the first warning sign, followed by a few crosses and corners which Torpoint threw themselves at when needed and were disciplined with their approach. They should have scored if I’m honest but they were unable to. When Torpoint did break they broke at pace and did manage two goalscoring chances of their own. Luke Gibbons arrived on the edge to sidefoot just wide and Matt Westall had a powerful shot fly over the bar. The only other chance was superbly tipped over the bar from the St Newlyn keeper from Byron Robbins’ placed shot. 0-0 at HT.

In the 2nd half Torpoint took control of the game. Again they defended well when necessary but the improved forward play from Torpoint’s front pair allowed Torpoint to keep the ball and build some good moves around them. The breakthrough eventually came when the ball dropped to Gibbons inside the box to smash home to The Shed’s delight! St Newlyn weren’t out of the game but were kept at bay by some good saves from the Point keeper. Torpoint’s 2nd after about 65mins had a bit of luck to it when a Robbins freekick deflected off of the wall and wrong-footed the goalkeeper and ended up in the other side of the net.

The game finished 2-0 with Torpoint continuing to work hard to reduce St Newlyn’s chances of getting the ball to their no.10. 7 home and 1 away fixtures to play so still plenty of graft to put in to finish as high up the table as we can. Cheers to St Newlyn and the official for a well controlled game.
