Ian Pethick
Loving the World Cup so far ,a massive improvement on the bore fest in South Africa . I have a nagging feeling that the matches will become more closed up as the stakes get higher ,and this was borne out by some of the final group games . Anyway , after a bit of thought , here's my select eleven from the group stages . 4-3-3 Formation Goalkeeper - Guillermo Ochoa ( Mexico) Right Back - Mauricio Islas ( Chile ) Centre-Back - Mario Yepes ( Colombia ) Centre- Back - Vincent Kompany ( Belgium ) Left Back - Daley Blind ( Netherlands ) Midfield - Arturo Vidal ( Chile ) Midfield- Toni Kroos ( Germany ) Midfield -James Rodriguez ( Colombia ) Forward- Arjen Robben ( Netherlands ) Forward- Robin Van Persie ( Netherlands ) Forward - Lionel Messi ( Argentina )
TheolderIgetthebetterIwas
WHAT!!!!! no English players??? not even world class dummy, erm, meant to say Rooney. Just does not ring true does it. Ronaldo....Messi...Neymar....Rooney!!!!! not in that list, not even close to being top of the tree. Average player who puts in a lot of graft to cover up lack of ability, and we've had plenty of them, Keegan, Shearer, Macdonald and so on......footballers... pffft! And yet the classy players who England have produced in the last 40 years such as Rodney Marsh , Tony Currie , Frank Worthington ,Laurie Cunningham, Chris Waddle and Matt Le Tissier are derided as lazy, luxury players . Ian Pethick
Shearer no talent. Think your wrong there. Alan Shearer was certainly a World Class striker from 1996-98 , I can also still remember how brilliant Wayne Rooney was at Euro 2004 , England could have won that tournament were it not for the injury he sustained
