Walked on Penryns pitch yesterday.....I'd have cancelled Saturdays game then.

Absolute pudding to walk on, and rain  forecast!!!!

But it hasn't rained today and I cut my grass this afternoon, not bone dry but certainly manageable. Does anyone want to see football played locally any more.? There appears to be plenty of excuses to call the match off because the grass is wet but not enough to get the game on!

Then maybe you could offer your services to your local club as a groundsman Big Al? Football definitely need more people like you.

The 12 hours of rain never fell on your garden then ? dry all day - not here.

i would like to thank our groundsman for getting the game on at the mill, shame about the results its was two points lost, but to the credit of st blaze they played alot better than the league table surgests. they had dave painter sent off for handling the ball oudside the area and nelson eseleghe for a second yellow. we had liam parnell sent off in the last minute for a second a yellow. the referee had a poor game for both sides i am afraid in hard conditions and no common sense was used.

Sticker 1 Illogan RBL 2 (fixture reversed)

After our (Illogan's) pitch was deemed unplayable we agreed to take up Sticker's offer to reverse the fixture, after driving 40 odd minutes through the glorious rain and mist we arrived to find the pitch at Sticker looking pretty damn good and even the rain deciding to stop and watch the game.

Once we had got the various collection of Christmas party hangovers etc through the warm up we were fancying a bit of an upset and we set up to try and stop Sticker playing their game by turning the game into a dog fight and to be fair our boys scrapped and fought for everything.

Sticker had the wind for the first half and scored after a decent save from Barrie-John (on his return to the club) fell kindly and the rebound was tucked away, Sticker had a couple of quick chances to get another but were well saved by Barrie in goal before a long clearance up field led to the sticker centre back slipping under pressure from Adam Callaway who then crossed for Ash Smeeth to finish well on the stretch 1-1.

Both sides then had chances to score the second with Barrie again saving well twice before a combination of the Sticker goalkeeper and a player on the line keeping Illogan at bay 1-1 half time.

Second half was again end to end with challenges flying in left right and centre from both sides before a great bit of play down the right hand side led to Ash Smeeth getting his second of the game.

Sticker pushed for an equaliser and hit the crossbar from a fierce shot before Illogan had two great chances to score a third from a couple of one on ones the best of which was blazed over by captain Simon Ellis after a powerful run through.

Illogan scrapped for absolutely everything and after about 7 minutes injury time finally got the result the performance deserved, no doubting it wasn't pretty but hard the work and commitment from our side was exceptional. Sticker were without a doubt a slick footballing outfit who probably think they should have had something out of the game and we wish them well for the rest of the season however this time of year is always about the upsets.

Sounds like the referee at the Torpoint game needs a course in commonsense.  Yes there are laws of the game which we must all abide by but it seemed that it was his day to show why many people do not take up the whistle.   It seems that many referees know the laws backwards but they somehow lack the unwritten law. commonsense.   Such a shame ruined a terrific game played in terrible conditions.   We will of course have the usual subjects coming on and praising the referee for his actions and he will say he stuck by the laws of the game but please people like this should be taken to one side and given a gentle word in his ear to show him that people play the game because they love it.  Petty decisions do not help matters.

Got to agree Illogans game plan worked. As an ex player for them.I have to admire their desire and commitment. Areal wake up call for us.You have to earn the right to play and we never quite got to that point. Good luck against our rivals. Not pretty but it certainly worked.

Hi Smiffy.  Put it this way if you were in charge two of the red cards would not have happened. Being a referee and the sole arbiter has its responsibilities, something you have taken to your heart.  Yes you will make mistakes who does not, but you speak to players to explain decisions, some referees unfortunately feel they are the boss and they are always right aqnd they want no interaction with players.   In this situation.   Player comes back on to pitch following an injury thinking he has received permission from the referee.  Nope referee decides otherwise instead of a quick telling off the player gets second yellow card.   Correct decision in the eyes of the referee.  Common sense used NIL.   Another player gets a second yellow for throwing comments his way when in fact he was telling off a team mate.  Commonsense NIL. A quick telling off to the player NIL.  Need I say more.    Have a nice Christmas,.

hi ECPL

thanks for replying i was just curious what happen  in the game

As a referee we all have our own way of dealing with players ..like you said i like to try and explain a decison to a player dont always work granted but if he dont listen then i am left no option to show a card..

have a good christmas too ECPL. see you at a  game soon. are you going to a game on boxing day?? smiffy
