St Austell v Camelford

Recommended Posts

ST AUSTELL (3) 6 CAMELFORD (0) 0

The Poltair pitch passed an inspection at 10.00 am but the heavy drizzle at lunchtime necessitated another inspection by referee D.Fox at 2pm who allowed the match to proceed despite the heavy conditions.

Both teams, officials and supporters paid respect with a minutes silence to Mike Howard the ex St Austell player and manager who sadly  passed away this week.

Liam Eddy returning after suspension did not wait long to add to his tally of 20 League goals by shooting home after 38 seconds following a fine move down the left wing. Eddy added a second five minutes later following a excellent through ball by Lee Whetter. Eddy then completed his hat trick in the 44th minute when a mix up in the Camelford defence allowed him to pick up  a loose ball and slot home. Half time score was 3-0 to the Lillywhites. As in the first half the Lillywhites continued to press forward in search of more goals but were denied by missed opportunities and some fine saves from Camelford keeper Aaron Gregory denied any further goals until the 62nd minute when Harry Evans collected a loose ball on the edge of the box and fired home with a superb shot into the corner. Liam Prynn back on loan from Torquay made the score 5-0 in the 70 the minute finishing off another excellent move. The sixth and final goal came in the 84th minute when Josh Grant diverted a goalbound volley by Marcus Martin with his head past the keeper into the net .

Credit to a youthful Camelford side who battled away for the entire ninety minutes, never giving up despite being outplayed throughout the match. The referee sensibly used his disgression on the heavy pitch.
