Cracking game last night between Argyle and Cullompton. After Argyle went ahead early in the second half, Cullompton looked to have snatched a deserved point 5 minutes from the end but up popped young Cornish player Luke Jephcott with a fine strike from distance to earn all 3 points.

Plenty of chances for both sides but some wasteful finishing and some excellent saves from both keepers.

Very impressed with Jephcott and Argyle's left back (Palfrey) not so with their centre backs whose naive positional sense didn't get punished as much as it should have.

Wednesday

Callington Town 0-1 AFC St Austell

For some reason I had the feeling that this game wouldn't end up with the type of score line predicted elsewhere on the forum.

On a blustery evening in Callington, both sides lined up with several influential players missing, who on another night might have been in the starting eleven.

A first half of chances for both sides, Callington set out their attacking intentions in the first minute when Nicolas Kuevi blasted a right foot shot over the bar. Ten minutes in and a sharp volley from close in by St Austell hit the underside of the bar leading to muted appeals for a goal. Town captain Dan Jefferis was in superb form in the centre of the Town defence, and this proved crucial twice in a short spell when Town defenders did their job and blocked St Austell attempts on the line.

Callington certainly had their opportunities in the first half, with the strong running Kuevi and ability in the air of Ian Rooke causing a surprisingly looking vulnerable St Austell defence all sorts of problems.

Further chances were spurned by both sides, with Kuevi,Carlton Farnham and Martin Finneron shooting wide when well placed. Two St Austell players will also wonder how they missed the target by miles ( out of the ground shots) when in really good goalscoring positions as well.

Crucially just before half time, the St Austell keeper got down to his left to make a great save and claw away Farnham's header, who was completely unmarked, and had done everything right with his attempt.

Half time 0-0, when it very easily could have been several goals each.

The second half saw fewer chances, with St Austell more in control than in the first half, but neither keeper was particularly troubled. However halfway through the second half, St Austell chased a lost cause down the left, the ball was pulled back for Harry Evans to head into an empty net - but he didn't, somehow contriving to head well over the bar.

Fifteen minutes from time it was still level. Just before this Callington had to replace the excellent Harry Southcott at left back, and it was from this area of the pitch, following a slip by a Town defender, the ball arrived 5 yards out at the feet of Evans, this time he made no mistake.

In the final 10 minutes Town pushed forward more, and St Austell conceded a number of needless free kicks in dangerous areas, but disappointingly for Town none of the resulting free kicks beat the first defender.

Callington will feel disappointed that having been at 0-0 with 15 minutes left, they were unable to gain any reward from what was an intriguing game - and a great way to spend two hours on an October evening in Callngton.

Porthleven totally dominated vs St Dennis and should of been out of sight by half time but for some good goal keeping who saved 4 one on ones in the first all from Dan Hindmarch who has made a big improvement to the forward line with his pace hardwork and aggression. Port took the lead through a Charlie Young pen then scored a second from a goal from Dan Hindmarch from a great ball from 16 year old Jack Webber. Ports defence and midfield looked strong  and organised with both CBs commanding and strong and the full backs staying compact and the midfield over powering their counterparts with ease. St Dennis's goal came from a mistake from the keeper failing to deal with a corner but with only that to offer Port should / could of put the game out of reach come the final whistle. Ports passing and movement was a pleasure to watch with there hardwork in closing down St Dennis and not allowing to play was evident but need to carry that onto Saturday.

Watched porthleven v st Dennis last night and it was a pleasure to watch, the work put in by all 10 outfield players of porthleven was outstanding which gave st Dennis not many chances in the game where as port created so many with jack Webber playing as a no10 creating chaces all game for Dan hindmarsh who any other game could have had four or five if not for st Dennis keeper! My MOM jack Webber .
