Bodmin Town 4 St Austell 4

Recommended Posts

I predicted a cracking match and it was. 8 goals, 3 penalties - 1 saved, 2 red cards .

BODMIN - Moore, Hillson, Hardcastle (Jewell), Ash, Simmonds, Bromhead, Sullivan, Bailey, Carter (Berry) , Hopcroft (Doel), Matthews.

Unused sub - B. Davies.

ST AUSTELL - Chapman, Tinsley, Roberts, Giles, Chambers, Hart, Bello (Bishop), Brokenshire, Eddy, Evans, Mulready (Goldsworthy).

Unused subs - Mitchell, Street, Slateford.

A very eventful match saw St Austell take a 1st minute lead from a penalty by Harry Evans. Twelve minutes later the lead was increased to 2-0 from another penalty by Evans. St Austell missed a number of chances to go three up but Bodmin fought back with a superb strike by Dan Sullivan in the 31st minute and an equaliser by Phil Bromhead four minutes later  The game became end to end as both sides strived to take the lead. Lance Bailey received a straight red card for a bad foul in the 39th minute. One minute later Evans hit the post, the ball rebounded to Martin Giles who hammered the ball home. Half time 3-2 to St Austell.

In the second half Bodmin came out firing on all cylinders and soon led 4-3 with a spectacular 25 yard shot from Sullivan which gave Jason Chapman no chance in the 49th minute and a deflected free kick by Charlie Hardcastle two minutes later.

St Austell soon came back and drew level when Evans completed his hat trick in the 55th minute. Not long after St Austell were awarded a third penalty when Ash elbowed Eddy in the box. This time Kyle Moore saved Evans's penalty. Ash received a second yellow card for the offence and was sent off. Now against nine men St Austell went in search for the winner but were thwarted by a determined Bodmin side who gave nothing away and deserved credit for trying to score themselves rather than settling for a point.

However a good week for the Lillywhites , four very good points obtained and two excellent performances.

What was the attendance ? I guess about 220.

Its a shame that the Boy from Mylor (Harry Evans) didn't convert his third penalty.

Its quite a rare event after asking the question on the Tony Kempster site a while back.

The only one I have seen was Mark Vercesi for Falmouth who probably has the best penalty conversion rate anywhere. From memory he missed only one from about 25  taken.

Has anyone else seen three penalties scored by the same player in one match?

No mention of the referee in your match details Nick, diplomatically ommitted perhaps.

Will the Bodmin suspensions kick in for the F A Vase weekend November 12th.?

Referee had a good game, very firm correct decisions and ignored the comments from the touchline.

And wasn't a Bodmin goal (the 4th?) an own goal?

Only going on what the PA announced.

Sometimes a deflected shot might be awarded to a striker but when a defender heads a cross into his own goal I can't see how it can be credited to any other player (even though Mullion did a couple seasons ago)
