Uwdi Krugg
Went along to 'The Mill' for the Vase clash with Clevedon Town. If ITV had the rights to Cornwall Football this would doubtless have been the Big Match with Brian Moore commentating and Jimmy Hill doing the summary. Perhaps we might have got some quick highlights from Gloucester as well, what a great win for Bodmin Town at Tuffley Rovers. Torpoint and Bodmin have done Cornwall and SWPL Football proud, well done to both of them. Amidst the steaming pasties, flat caps, trendy teenage haircuts and expensive bright anoraks there was an eclectic blend of the good the bad and the ugly in the Cow Shed for this one. Cup tie football was the common denominator. Torpoint broke the mould of a stalemate scrappy first half with a unique break away goal just before the break. A great time to score and certainly a strong foothold to conquer this mountain of a challenge. Clevedon looked like they'd dropped their lollipops as they trudged back to the sheds for a hair-dryer rollicking. Needless to say the second half was a gripper. It wasn't pretty ticky-tacky football, more hoof, wallop and press but what a 45 minutes of drama we got. Torpoint played a stormer in battling a fired up Clevedon and some rather dubious refereeing decisions in the bargain. Sadly the home side also had to counter some pathetic theatricals from the visitors, more than one or two of them were falling on the floor almost every time the ball went near them. Not nice to witness in non league football, perhaps it was their last throw of the dice? We can certainly do without it though. The visitors went down to 10 men when a Clevedon wing back took out the Torpoint keeper with a kamikaze head on attack with about 15 minutes left but still the visitors poured forward. Torpoint held firm in the nervous final minutes, no less than 6 of which appeared in injury time. Then finally it was all over and Torpoint had won a tremendous victory. Not pretty football as I've mentioned but that second half was something else. Torpoint and Bodmin are in the 3rd Round draw come Monday.
