Callington Town v Exmouth Town

Recommended Posts

A really good tight game last night ended 1-1, as Callington's encouraging start to the season continued under the new management duo of Dean Cardew and Gary Williams.

Exmouth had come into the game on the back of a 3-0 win against St Austell on Saturday.

The first half was largely confined to midfield, with relatively few chances, both sides tending to hit the ball a bit long on a windy evening. Mike Lucas, returning from injury for his first game of the season, did have a chance after a poor clearance from the Exmouth keeper gave him an opportunity from distance, but his shot drifted just wide.

On 40 minutes following a corner right Dan Pethick controlled the ball in the area, turned and thumped the ball home off the left hand post to give Callington the lead.

After the break, Exmouth were definitely on top for 10-15 minutes , a deflected shot hit the top of the bar, and on 55 minutes the inevitable equaliser arrived.

Both sides traded chances after this, Callington were able to introduce Ollie Kennedy and Andre Rudikov from the bench, and their strong running caused Exmouth problems. Rudikov had a left foot pile driver just parried by the keeper, and Kennedy outstripped the Exmouth defence down the left, put in a great cross which Rudikov side footed wide when it looked easier to score.

A draw was probably a fair result.

Good to see a number of Exmouth supporters make the evening journey
