St Austell announce Damo stands down!

Recommended Posts

AFC St Austell have announced via Twitter that manager Damon Mulready has stood down this evening:-

It is with great sadness that we have today accepted the resignation of our 1st team manager @Mulready_D . The club would like to place on record our thanks for everything he has done for us this season and wish him good luck in the future!

Assistant Manager @Slateeford will take over the running of the team until the end of the season. We thank him for this and wish him well.”

Lack of consistency feels like the story of St Austell's season. When they're hot, they can beat anybody (Parkway can testify to that this season), but too many off days. Considering the talent and experience they have in the squad, it feels like something has not been quite right. Was Martin Giles leaving a key moment for the team and management?

Decent ground and potentially large support, it's a good job for an ambitious manager looking to make the step up, but they  will have a few lingering issues to deal with on the playing side.

The Big Bad Fox is spot on.

1 Young lad currently at the club has stated the club is run by 4/5 players and is partly behind why the Manager has left. Not every manager has the same opinion on players and it seems that the Martin Giles topic is still talked about and brought up by certain people/players at the club and will always be thrown at the now departed Damian Mulready as to reasons in slumps in form.

As said previous, new manager needs to come in and tear up the current squad and start again.

Apparently a 5 man shortlist has been drummed up with 3 Managers currently active at clubs and 2 former pro’s who are still involved in the game but not in Management positions.

Exmouth done better since he left. Didn't stick around with Gilby, don't know why. At the end of the day I wonder why anybody bothers.

Often wonder what keeps most managers at this level going. When you watch and hear them during games, very few actually seem to be getting any enjoyment out of it. Many seem miserable bordering on angry most of the time.
