Fixtures

Recommended Posts

Over the weekend, we decided to look at the fixtures of Sticker football club over the season, ( they have a full set of fixtures and results for the season on their website, good for them considering the season they have endured ) and came up with a very interesting set of fixtures.
We can only assume that last seasons weather caused a certain amount of panic with the fixture secretary, and fixtures were piled in to the beginning of the season in the hope that any cancellations could be undertaken after Christmas.
The result was that Sticker played 4 x cup games and 28 x league fixtures between August 7th 2018 and December 29th 2018 a total of 32 games in a span of 20 weeks.
From the 29th of December 2018 to 22nd of April  10 games were fixtured, 6 away and only 4 at home during a period of 17 weeks.
The league secretary had a thankless task getting fixtures completed last season and could be forgiven for a certain amount of heavy fixturing, but the impact on supporters and clubs should also be considered and only 4 x home games in 17 weeks does not suggest that that has happened.
Have any other clubs experienced similar fixture anomalies, which have the potential for serious cash flow issues if the clubhouses have not been in use, apart from players not having much time to recover from injury with so many early season games.

The deployment will never listen to reasoning I am afraid.

A lot of teams play many midweek games early season. The weather last season caused a major pile up with some clubs. Bodmin for example had their situation exacerbated by the roadworks causing the pitch to become waterlogged.

Not ideal but this season it seems to have worked although you can't please everyone.  I'm sure Mr Hiscox would love to hear of a better way to do things.

Unfortunately we can't find another website that catalogues its seasons fixtures in the same fashion as Sticker do, and therefore comparisons are difficult.
The point being made is that 4 x home games in 17 x weeks could be adjusted earlier in the season for the sake of the home supporters  who find it impossible to travel on occasions due to work and other commitments.
As stated we can't find another website that catalogues the seasons past fixtures, and wondered if fixtures had been rather sparse in the latter part of the season for other clubs.
It would be unfortunate if the early season pile up of fixtures was to happen every year, leaving clubs who have exited cup competitions at an early stage with very few games from mid to end of season.

Well will be less travelling to away games next season as clubs will be separated into the SWPL east and west village pub leagues.  Can’t please everyone, previous season people were complaining there were to many games at the end of the season and it should be extended due to the weather. This season fixtures secretary crammed in early fixtures to plan for inclement winter weather and he is moaned at again!

Did you miss the sentence quoted above Quicksilver ? it can hardly be seen as a moan, and bear in mind the weather pattern experienced last season is not necessarily replicated  the following season as this season has proved.

If you go to full-time website

http://fulltime-league.thefa.com/Index.do?league=510118669

you will be able to select the tab results, then select any team and it will give you the complete list of results for the season for that team with all the dates.

hope this helps

Camelford were in the same position at Sticker as at the turn of the year, played 26 14 at home 12 away. Newquay were in a similar position, played 25 but 15 of them at home and only 10 away.

Argyle had played the most away games by that point, 14 (to go with 10 at home).

It does seem strange that games aren't  arranged home game ,away game ,home game away game ,etc etc .

Doing the fixtures is a thankless task. Phil Hiscox does an amazing job, and I agree with the method of leaving a few spare Saturdays late in the season for inevitable postponements.

Bear in mind Bodmin and Sticker are almost polar opposites:

Bodmin enter FA Cup, FA Vase and usually are still in both the League Cup and Senior Cup in January. Priory Park pitch is susceptible to waterlogging.

Sticker do not play in either FA Cup and  Vase, and were out of both the League Cup and Senior Cup by November. Also Stickers pitch is perhaps the best in the country and matches are very rarely postponed.

Perhaps in future season, Sticker can request a couple more home fixtures in Feb, March - with the expectation that earlier home fixtures are least likely to postponed due to weather / cup runs.
