Mike Odgers
I wonder why Warminster Town with 369 are such a contrast to most of the others? Falmouth played in the Vase there in 2000 before a gate of

Home Waters
If you look at the Tool Station Western league web site home page - scroll down and all the average attendances are given - for most of the premier those figures belie this Saturday's fixtures. I think its two over 200 and a further 8 over 100, so a bit of a blip this week.
Ian Pethick
2 hours ago, Keith B said: With all the foul mouthed rants at our level of the game, I can only see fewer people turning out in the future. The governing bodies need to stamp it out, or the problem of dwindling gates will only get worse. I believe this affects all the amateur leagues and of course, it is one of the causes of referees pulling out of the game too. Lots of factors, this is just one of them. Lack of local media coverage, different work commitments, many other leisure and lifestyle options and the proliferation of live TV football on at Saturday lunchtime and late afternoon must all impact on gates as well. The Western League clubs are all competing with each other and clubs at higher levels for spectators, a lot of them are grouped pretty close together in the Bath/Bristol/North Somerset/South Gloucestershire area. Dave Deacon
Average Attendances - League Matches (which for a couple might include Ground Hop) Plymouth Parkway 234 Bridgwater Town 228 Shepton Mallet 191 Wellington 189 Exmouth Town 172 Bridport 167 Bradford Town 150 Keynsham Town 130 Bitton 117 Buckland Athletic 101 Tavistock 101 Clevedon Town 99 Street 95 Chipping Sodbury Town 92 Westbury United 91 Brislington 88 Cribbs 77 Hallen 66 Odd Down (BATH) 66 Roman Glass St George 59 Cadbury Heath
Home Waters
If they are included it was only Bradford, Wellington & Bridport with ground hops in Premier. - Bridport average over 100 anyway and Wellington have, so far, without the ground hops. But as you can see from your figures its about success that brings them in as well,
yeww
it would be interesting to see how these figures compare to the equivalent level in other nations.

Was on holiday recently in Greece, and ended up watching a Greek Superleague match on the apartment TV (much to the delight of Mrs WOTP). It wasn't a game involving one of the big clubs (Olympiakos, Panathanaikos or AEK) and looked like there was barely a 1000 in attendance. When you consider how many leagues and clubs there are in England, doubt that any other country in Europe would come close to the amount of people that pay money to watch matches every week. Martin Cook
Interesting reading , At Exmouth Town our gates are effected with Clashes with City. We average around 170 so far in the league( Only played 2 games at home ) We have been steadily been building the home attendances and had over 300/400 in some Cup games. In the western League there are so many teams based around Bristol the crowds are not great, but we have also been taking around 30/50 to away games. To be honest you get what you get, but you need to be proactive with marketing games through Social Media and local press. Obviously results help. We have been getting between 50/90 coming to reserve team games in the DFL (Step 7) Town are fortune that we have a local paper and radio station that actively back the club. Paloresow
Paid entry is a requirement of the NLS and a stipulation of the Standardised Rules for participation in the National League System. The depth of the English Pyramid is unparalleled in the game. For example, West Sussex goes down to Division 23 - although Divisions 16-23 are almost entirely comprised of 2nd, 3rd & 4th XIs with only a sprinkling of 1st XIs. Divisons 11-16 in places other than Sussex often contain Reserve/Development XIs, in any case. A likewise peculiarity is that relatively low-level Foot-Ball tends to be comparitively well-supported by contrast with the Continent. The crowds found in Amateur Foot-Ball in France or Germany, which are the only others to come remotely close to the same depth, are negligible. Those countries which do have 10 Divisions [the nominal Level or Tier of the SWPFL, by way of example] certainly do not have equivalent attendances.
