Foul Throw 3
Huge win for Torpoint vs a good Veryan side yesterday. Wasn’t the prettiest of games with the pitch wet in places resorting to avoiding overplaying in some central areas. Huge credit to Veryan who had clearly put some graft in to get the game on with recent postponements and the pitch held up much better than I predicted. A good well run club. overall I think we could’ve scored more than the 2 goals with chances missed, scuffed, well saved or blocked. But the introduction of young Will Ferguson at HT was the difference. I think that’s 6 goals in 5 games for him at Veryan in the past 3 seasons. They must hate him! Solid at the back and in midfield left Veryan with very few chances and Gilbert couldn’t add to his impressive tally for the season. also thanks to Veryan for agreeing on the venue reversal with Torpoint’s The Mill in use for the rescheduled Senior Cup game. JonColenzo
St Cleer FC 5 -0 St Teath St Cleer 5-0 St Teath Yesterday we entertained St Teath at home, on a heavy pitch that just passed an inspection. We won the toss and played up the slope first half. St Teath had set up to defend in numbers and try and break up play and counter attack when they could. It took us a while to get our rhythm going but we eventually broke down a stubborn St Teath defence thanks to a good move that led to predator Zak Peel opening the scoring. At half time we spoke about keeping the ball moving and being patient. Midway through the second half Zak scored 2 more goals again from good set up play from midfield to complete another hat trick. Debutant Ian Thomas scored our fourth goal after good work from Joel Mitchell and Ethan Gwillam. We then finished off our resilient opponents with a fourth for Zak and our fifth overall. Today we learnt a bit more about patience to break down a solid defensive side, goalkeeper and back four were always in control today and did very well as a unit. Our midfield kept the ball moving well and found the final pass at the right times and the lads in attack battled and chased every ball and eventually got their rewards. We were very disappointed to lose key defender Callum Buck to a nasty foot/ ankle injury after only 10 minutes and we wish him a speedy recovery as an important part of our team. On the plus side it allowed Gaffer Aaron Saunders some vital minutes as he has had to wait patiently on the bench and lead from the dugout. Great to catch up with Will Kitto, both sides believing in their youth systems and good luck to St Teath for the rest of the season. On to next week now when we entertain Newquay at home, let’s hope for some dry weather.
